Premise[]

According to Lana Lang, the film heavily follows the mythology of the Warrior Angel comic book. However, it changed the fate of the hero's love interest, Penelope. In the comics, Penelope is shot and killed by supervillain Devilicus. In the film, Warrior Angel manages to save Penelope. The change was not well-recieved by fans, who angrily took to the message boards. One insane fan, Ben Meyers, even went so far as trying to kill Rachel Davenport (the actress playing Penelope), in an effort to keep the film canon accurate.[1] The Warrior Angel movie proved a box office smash, with, at least, two sequels (Warrior Angel II in 2010[2] and Warrior Angels: United in 2012[3]) being produced by 2012.

Notes[]

  • Rachel states that she "signed onto Warrior Angel for publicity and a paycheck". It is well known that Marlon Brando, who played Jor-El in the first Superman film, signed onto the film for the same reason.
  • The film version of Warrior Angel has him rescue his girlfriend from the way Devilicious tried to kill her in the comics. This also resembles in broad strokes the film adaptation of Spider-Man (2002), where the Green Goblin tries to kill Spider-Man's girlfriend the same way he killed his girlfriend in the comics only for Spider-Man to save her (though in the Spider-Man movie, the girlfriend isn't Gwen).
