The United States of America (USA) is a federal constitutional republic mostly in North America comprised of fifty federated states and a federal district. Its capital is Washington, D.C..

The federal government of the USA contains several agencies:

• The Department of Domestic Security (or DDS) is a branch of the government that deals with various projects relating to threats to the country.
  • The Vigilante Registration Agency enforced legislation that required vigilantes to register themselves with the federal government.
• Checkmate is a mysterious underground government agency run by Amanda Waller. Their goal was to make sure that all metahuman groups, such as the Justice League and Justice Society of America, are under the absolute control of the US government.
• The Department of Extranormal Operations (or D.E.O.) is an underground government agency that pertains to Metahuman, extraterrestrial, and supernatural affairs.
• The Disease Control Agency (or DCA) is an agency that works to protect public health and safety.
• The Center for Environmental Protection (or CEP) is a federal agency that protects the environment.
