Ted Knight was a super-hero known as Starman.
Biography[]
Very little is known about Ted Knight's life. At some point in his life, he became a super-hero known as "Starman", possessing a Cosmic Rod (possibly multiple ones in different sizes), and was seemingly involved with the Justice Society of America. By 2010, his short Cosmic Rod was on display at the JSA Brownstone. It is unknown what happened to Ted Knight. His Cosmic Staff was seemingly passed down to Sylvester Pemberton, the Star-Spangled Kid.
Notes[]
- While Starman never appeared on the show, behind the scenes footage for Absolute Justice shows Starman's Cosmic Rod as being part of the pieces on display at the JSA Brownstone,[1] establishing his existence in the universe of Smallville. The sign identifies him as "Starman", but does not identify his real name. The Cosmic Rod is visible inside a display case in Absolute Justice, Part 2.[2]
- In the Season Seven episode Action, there is a Starman action figure on display in Ben Meyers' apartment.

In the Comics[]
Ted Knight, also known as Starman, first appeared in Adventure Comics #61 (April, 1941). Knight was a wealthy man, who invented a Cosmic Rod, which he began using to fight crime. He became a member of the Justice Society of America. In the 1970s, Knight gave the Cosmic Rod to Sylvester Pemberton, who modified it into his Cosmic Converter Belt. After Knight retired, his sons David and Jack took up the mantle of Starman. David was killed, while Jack retired (and handed the Cosmic Staff down to Courtney Whitmore).
