Summaries

Some of the summaries on this page are too long. For the Season 1 page, I tried to write summaries of 50 words or less. That turned out to be impossible. For this page I'm going to try for 100 words or less. The page looks best when all the summaries are approximately the same length, but I also think it's important to mention each story line. I don't think it's important to maintain any of the suspense. I always figure I'm writing these for people who have seen the show, but they jsut can't remember what happened in which episode. -Samantha's Mom 07:57, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Most of these summaries were taken from TV.com, TV Guide, or the CW website or something like that, and are usually the "official" summary- the little blurb you read in TV listings, so that's why there is an element of suspense- you want to know what's happening on Smallville tonight, but you don't want to know the whole story if you're about to watch it, yanno? That said, they are probably not originally written for the wiki, so I don't think anybody would object if you want to rewrite them. For Season 2, I've written some summaries the actual episode pages, but none on this table. If you want summaries on the table and the episode pages to match, that's cool too, I don't care what you do with the ones I've written. Marikology 20:12, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

That makes sense. I'll do my best. -Samantha's Mom 07:53, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Why including characters Tina Greer impersonated as "Recurring Characters" bugs me.

Normally, I'm in favor of wikis being more inclusive than exclusive, since they're public and anyone can contribute. There've been a couple of times where I personally didn't agree with some additions made to this wiki that I let slide because I didn't feel that strongly about the changes. They may not have been changes I would've made, but I can see how someone could care enough to include these changes and I'm not going to spoil their fun. (For example, to me, Kal is an aspect of Clark's personality rather than a Recurring Character, but it's different enough that I can see why somebody would want to include Kal in Recurring Character lists.) While I don't feel that strongly about including Regular Characters Tina impersonated in Recurring Character lists, it does irritate me more than other changes I haven't agreed with. I'll try my best to explain why and offer my compromise solution.

To me Tina Greer fully qualifies as a Recurring Character. She's distinct, important, and appears in more than one episode. And in both episodes she's played by Lizzy Caplan, who plays what Tina looks like when she's not impersonating anybody else. To me the main point of Recurring Character lists is to provide wiki users with a quick heads up. For an RC's debut season, it says, "Make note of this character, s/he will appear again." For an RC's returning season, it says, "Yep, s/he's back this season." Listing any character Tina impersonated in a Recurring Character list doesn't do that. All it does is take away the suspense of whom Tina will show up as. It's the difference between a Preview and a Spoiler.

Now I have no objection to seeing a Regular actor listed in a Recurring Character list as someone else if that other character appeared in an episode only played by that Regular actor. For example, I agree with listing John Glover as playing Jor-El in the epsiode Hidden. Jor-El did appear in that episode, and no one but Glover played him. In the case of Tina, who both times she appears, is played by Lizzy Caplan, I don't feel the need to list other character Tina impersonates.

Furthermore, if I was in favor of listing characters Tina impersonated, I'd be in favor of listing all of them, not just the ones Tina impersonated more than once. I'm not in favor of this, so I suggest my compromise.

By Lizzy Caplan's name, I will place a footnote (which wiki users don't have to click on) to show the other actors who "played" her, and I'll make note of which regular actors played her again. I hope that helps. K9feline2 01:22, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

Fine that will work just fix your citation on this season. Lexboy21 03:28, October 10, 2011 (UTC)
