Was any on screen reason for the change in election year? or was Lex just his parties final pick for the 2020 elections and not the winner of the elections? like what is going on now with Perry, Newt, Paul, et.al. maybe in Smallville it was: Lex, Newt, Paul and he only was "elected" the party's choice to beat the current President in Smallville 2018? The only way the election could change would be if the President, Vice Prisident and ALL of the government leadership (DC going boom on the day of the State of the Union maybe?) was killed but Superman and the JLA would have stopped that. maybe the Daily Planet's printer was set with the wrong date?
look at the facts of the episodes:
1. in Final Pt.2 -- 2018 Lois is a bigshot reporter but Clark is not yet & they are not yet wedded,
2. in the Homecomming episode - 2017 -- Lois and Clark have an office together and both the future Clark and her act like they are married, plus both have rings on.
3. Salvation's flash foward in 2013 Lex is running for President 2016 election, and Lois is wearing a ring.
I think the Final should be in the year 2016
