Reasons for his powers[]
This is pure speculation, but the powers he received were probably meant for Clark, but he of course never gets the energy beams because they're not canon Superman powers. It was only Dr. Walden's own interpretation of the message that made him view Clark as a threat, for those who were confused over why the caves would give someone the powers to oppose Clark.
