"Something tells me Lois and Clark's destinies are a little more entwined than they realize." - Star

Star is a woman who runs Star's Earth Essences, a shop that sells New Age novelties such as aphrodisiacs and incense.

Season Six[]

Star ran a booth at the Talon's Valentine's Day party selling fortunes and potions. Lois Lane approached her and she predicted Lois had a broken heart. She gave her a lipstick claiming that after putting it on, Lois would fall in love with the first man she saw. Jimmy Olsen later came by her shop looking for the antidote and she gave him a green glowing spray.[1]

Notes[]

  • Star's name is never said in the episode. Her name being "Star" is based on the name of her shop. Chloe Sullivan just calls her "the oil essence lady". Star's legal name is unknown.[1]
  • Star's clothing is reminiscent of Romani dress, indicating that Star is of Romani heritage.[1]
  • While talking to Jimmy Olsen, she says the names Lois and Clark, without being told them onscreen. In the same scene, Star makes a passing remark about having a sixth sense (which would explain her knowing their names), and makes an accurate prediction about the future relationship between Lois and Clark. This would make it possible that Star possesses psychic abilities like telepathy and precognition. If she does possess those abilities, the future of Star might have been hinted at by dialogue. In Absolute Justice, Part 2, Doctor Fate (who could see the future) informs Clark that him becoming Superman (and people looking up at him in the sky) will lead to everyone embracing a Silver Age of heroism.[2] In Continuity, Superman tells the world that the world's (benevolent) metahumans will always rise up to protect them.[3] It is possible that this (i.e. the people who becomes superheroes) includes Star.
  • A yearbook page in Legion seemingly uses a photograph of Simone Bailly as former smallville High student Tonya Hartz, a telepath.[4] However, In Crimson, Chloe Sullivan (a former classmate of Tonya Hartz) frames Star as a total stranger,[1] indicating that Star is not Tonya Hartz. The same photograph had been used in the Season Four episode Ageless, for a different Smallville High student named "Jacquie Gould".

Trivia[]

  • There was a recurring character named Star (played by Olivia Brown) on the television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman who was a psychic and neighbor of Lois Lane.

Cindy Reynolds/Gypsy as she appears in the comics.

  • Wearing clothes similar to Romani dress, and seemingly having mental powers (like telepathy and precognition), Star (real name unknown) carries similarities with DC Comics character Cindy Reynolds. Cindy is a superhero, and member of the Justice League, who goes by the name "Gypsy" (a pejorative term for Romani people). With Star's real name being unknown, it is unknown if she was intended to be Cindy Reynolds.
