- Arrival is a novelization of Pilot. The novel shares the same name as the season 5 premiere: Arrival.
- See No Evil was originally planned as an episode for Season 1, but eventually changed into the story for Shimmer.[1]
- Flight was another story conceived for Season 1, but was rejected due to the fear of flight looking visually unappealing.[2]
- A novel entitled Pet Peeve was originally slated as being the third book in the Young Adult line, with a given release for December 2002. Flight eventually released as the third book, with Pet Peeve seemingly never being published.
- An excerpt of the Smallville novel Whodunnit was published in Smallville #4.
