From DC Comics: "In this new miniseries, the Monitors have come to Earth and begun their work – but instead of using Red Bleed to exterminate the world, a new Blue Bleed is erasing the world’s capitals!"
In the 31st Century Dominators are on a spacecraft at the edge of the source wall praying to the gods of order and chaos to forgive their transgressions of going against the master plan and searching for something more than dominion, and are fully ready to be punished resigning to their faith.
They are shocked when they are pulled up by a tractor beam, finding themselves to be rescued by the Legion members Brainiac 5, Chameleon Boy and Lightning Lad who are about to send them back into Dominator Space. Lighting Lad questions the Legion's rescue if they wanted to die. Brainiac 5 points out that Kal-El would have done the exact same thing. An alarm alerts them to the fact that the Source Wall beginning to crack and expel a strange form of energy that is all over the charts which Chameleon Boy refers to as looking to the readings say that it all amounts to "nothing". To avoid destruction the Legion, first transporting Dominator back to their territory, escape into a hyperspace jump back to Earth.
Horrifyingly the 'nothing' has followed them and is still gaining. It is an entropy wave that is now travelling in space and time erasing the past, present and future. The wave is reaching a focal point in the present day 21st century and so the Legion race to intercept, with Brainiac 5 creating the Legion Protocol Seven as a way to contact all Legionnaires.
In the present at D.E.O headquarters Steve Trevor and Agent Diana Prince are trying to explain to the President exactly what the blue cloud is that was released by the Monitor ship and how Zatanna Zatara's magic is all that is keeping them safe. Diana however wonders why hasn't Steve told the president about how Zatanna has been growing trying to protect them and keep the barrier up and is convinced they need a plan to stop this threat soon.
Chloe Sullivan is nursing her baby bump after suffering pains from her womb trapped in the facility inside the bubble, which Oliver and the doctor assures her that it it just anxiety and false labor cramps. Oliver vows that he will find a way for Chloe and the baby, as well as everybody else to escape with something he took from a bad man during a previous mission in order to survive the 'trans-reality extinction event'.
On the other side of the globe Clark wakes up fully healed but with a shredded costume, while some helps nurse him back to health marveling on how the sun healed him so fast. As he thanks the man, he overhears Lois calling the Watchtower, Tess Mercer informs them of the crisis in motion with cities around the world are all being affected, and Washington D.C., where Martha Kent as well as General Sam Lane are stationed, was hit first just like on the other Earth. Lois is worried that they are too late to stop it. Clark is optimistic and holding Lois, saying their is still a chance to stop this soaring telling her it is time to go 'Up, up and away'.
Lex and Otis return to Metropolis, with Otis asking Lex if he appreciated the view of the city before he lost all his memories as much as he does now, and how hard he worked to position himself as a good man emerging from the darkness. Otis wonders if that also includes making deals with the Monitors because it looks like they easily agreed to his plan of rebooting the universe as they watch Washington D.C. as well as five other cities apparently destroyed. Lex whoever says while the Bleed in Russia was mainly destructive, but the blue Bleed seems to have broken down for reconfiguration, with Otis wondering how they would be able to sort it out with Lex answering if they can reform everything to their specific design. Lex then assumes that no one would remember exactly what had happened and only knowing the reality created by the Monitors. Otis wonders if they hit Metropolis, they would bring them back together as a duo with Lex saying he doesn't imagine they would.
Across the Atlantic Ocean, Clark and Lois are almost home, watching the Monitors rebooting the universe which Lex convinced them to do as they break the water and air down to base elements and collecting it as they prepare to reassemble it, realizing Lex may have bought them some time to stop this. Clark wonders if Lois is ready to see this but Lois rationalize since they are possibly one of the last journalists, they have no choice. Lois wonders if her dad and his mom, along with everyone else in D.C. being vaporized is better than being terminated, Superman says he doesn't plan on finding out and would only take time to grieve if they can't save the day. However he tells tells her they need to focus because one of the ships releases a group of Manhunters on them.
In NORAD beneath the Rock Mountains, a group of soldiers are confused as they witness a bright yellow light appear out of nowhere. However before they are able to do anything, Oliver tased them with a few of his arrows, with the president telling them to stand down as they are bringing everyone they could from the D.E.O. Headquarters. Zatanna is exhausted from her part, while Chloe and Diana are by her side and brings a medic to help her. Oliver uses another Boom Tube saying this is where they must part ways Steve stays with the general and president to help coordinate the groups, while Diana goes to tell her people of what is coming, but they kiss and part ways with Diana telling Steve that despite what might happen, he'll always be her "secret boy" as they go their separate ways.
Superman and Lois finally arrive at Watchtower where Tess Mercer, Chloe and Oliver along with Batman, Nightwing Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Jay Garrick and his team of teenagers. Clark tells Chloe, Tess and Bruce to find out everything from one of the Manhunters he destroyed about the Crisis, because more ships are on their way. As Batman starts to examine the crumpled Manhunter head he wonders where are they going, Clark grimly says everywhere.
At the Daily Planet, Lois and a heavily pregnant Chloe use the elevator to go upstairs, where the "big dogs" intend to continue reporting what is happening in the world with the crisis and the Monitors. The two women then share some emotional moments about some of the hardships they have endured over the past few years, like the second meteor shower, Dark Thursday and Apokolips and wonder if this crisis could be something even Clark and his friends cannot stop. Chloe says she won't let the Monitors take away whatever future life her baby is supposed to have and Lois says they'll get through it like they always do.
Meanwhile at Watchtower, Tess and Oliver, who manufactures a new arsenal for himself with the 3D printer, talk about what information they got from the Manhunters. Tess points out Henshaw left and the D.E.O. and S.T.A.R. Labs haven't been able to gain any more information than they already knew. Without a body she feels at a loss but Oliver points of that Tess can be tangible again if she wanted to. She has access to a 3D printer and can fashion a body out of it much like he does for his Green Arrow armor and the base they now have on the moon. Tess then confesses that she is afraid of dying and if she does again after becoming physical she might not be able to ever come back.
Meanwhile Bruce and Clark sit in the Kents' apartment to figure out a game plan. Bruce is angered when he finds out about Lex Luthor's machinations but he distracts himself by revealing what he has extracted from the Manhunter head. Bruce points out that the Manhunters can be hurt but the Crisis is not something Superman can just punch away. Clark asks Bruce if they will be able to stop the crisis without either side having any casualties but Bruce remains uncomfortably silent. He then says to Clark to put on another pot of coffee.
Soon Clark gathers all of the heroes onto his rooftop and gives them the lowdown. They can distract the Manhunters with physical attacks while Watchtower leads an evacuation to the heartland. If the distraction they provide fails everyone will die or be 'rebooted', but if they win everything will stay as it was and how they all remember the world. Clark tells them to say goodbye to their loved ones and suit up ready for war.
