He was chaperoning a group of Smallville High School students on a field trip to LuthorCorp Fertilizer Plant Number Three. During the field trip, Earl Jenkins appeared with a gun, and took the Schoolteacher, the students, and several LuthorCorp employees hostage. The Schoolteacher was released alongside the students.
