Roland heard that a Smallville farmer named Brown had a quarter-million dollars buried on his farm. So, he went there and held Farmer Brown at gunpoint, trying to force him to give up the money. Clark Kent showed up and apprehanded Roland, turning him over to local law enforcement. However, Roland got out on bail, and went to take Clark (the only witness who could I.D. him) out at the Talon. When he tried to shoot Clark, the bullet was sent flying towards Lana Lang. Clark sent Roland flying out of a window, and melted the bullet, saving Lana's life. Roland was then taken back into custody.[1]
