Rex Tyler/Hourman first appeared in Adventure Comics #48 (1940), created by Ken Fitch and Bernard Baily. Rex was a research chemist who created the drug "Miraclo", which gave him powers such as Superhuman Strength for exactly one hour. He found a costume in an abandoned costume shop, became the superhero "Hourman", and joined the Justice Society of America. Years later, Rex had a son named Rick, who eventually took up the Hourman mantle.

The Golden Age Hourman

  • For unknown reasons, a plaque at the JSA Brownstone identifies him as the "Golden Age Hourman" (a term not applied to anyone else). It is unknown if there have been more than one Hourman, given the need for such a sign.
  • The character is identified as "Hourman" onscreen. However, his real name is never established.
  • It is unknown if Rex is still alive. Kent Nelson said that "The Hourman's run out."; so it is possible that he is dead.
  • In the Season Seven episode Action, there is an Hourman action figure on display in Ben Meyers' apartment.
