Renee Montoya as she appears in the comics
Renee Montoya originated as a character on Batman: The Animated Series. However, her character was quickly incorporated into the comics, where she made her debut in Batman #475 (March, 1992), published several months before Batman: The Animated Series began airing (due to the much longer production time for animation). The comic book version is an openly lesbian character, who has been involved with Kate Kane (Batwoman), among other. Renee later took up the mantle of the Question, following the death of the original.
