In the Comics[]
Manhunter is an alias used by many DC Comics characters. The first one was Dan Richards (a Quality Comics character, later acquired by DC Comics), who first appeared in Police Comics #8 (March, 1942). Richards was a cop turned vigilante.
The second Manhunter was Paul Kirk, who first appeared in Adventure Comics #73 (April, 1942), a big game hunter and private investigator turned vigilante. Paul Kirk was eventually killed, but was cloned multiple times (with his clones assuming the Manhunter mantle).
Mark Shaw, who first appeared in 1st Issue Special #5 (August, 1975), a lawyer who turned vigilante (after getting tired of seeing criminals walk free). He was also a pawn of the robotic Manhunters.
Chase Lawler, who first appeared in Manhunter Vol 2 #0 (October, 1994), a Star City musician. Lawler became the Manhunter to rescue his girlfriend.
Kate Spencer, who first appeared in Manhunter Vol 3 #1 (October, 2004), a district attorney. Similar to Mark Shaw, Kate had grown tired of seeing criminals walk free. She is briefly believed to be the granddaughter of Al Pratt. However, she later turns out to be the granddaughter of Golden Age superheroes Iron Munro and Sandy Knight (the Phantom Lady).
