Growing up, Rachel would frequently be entered into beauty pageants by her mother, Brenda. As Rachel got older, she came to dislike it more and more, as what she really wanted to do was to become a chemist. When Brenda entered her into the Miss Smallville Pageant, things came to ahead. Mother and daughter got into a verbal fight, where Rachel screamed that she never wanted to see her mother again. The two later mended their relationship, after Brenda was nearly drowned by fellow contestant Holly Gehrig. Rachel exited the pageant. A week later, Rachel and her mother watched another girl win the pageant.[1]
