- The character's name is never explicitly said in the episode. However, being an Asian-American associate of Ted Kord, there is a strong possibility that he is supposed to be Murray Takamoto. Geoff Johns had an affinity for filling his episodes with references to DC Comics characters.[1][2][3][4]

Murray Takamoto first appeared in Blue Beetle Vol 6 #1 (June, 1986). He was a college roommate of Ted Kord, who became a scientist working for S.T.A.R. Labs.
