Mrs. McKnight is the mother of Tyler McKnight, and grandmother of Maddie Van Horn.

Mrs. McKnight was unaware of her granddaughter's existence, until she was contacted by Clark Kent in 2006. After her son was arrested again, Maddie came to live with her.
