Mr. Mercer of Louisiana is the adoptive father of Tess Mercer.
Early life[]

In 1990, Mr. Mercer and his wife adopted a young girl named Tess. They never informed Tess that she was adopted, leaving Tess to believe that the Mercers were her biological parents.[1]
Mr. Mercer was an abusive alcoholic. During Tess' childhood, his abuse resulted in her getting a shattered eardrum and a broken arm on three occasions.[2]
Season Eight[]
During a flight to Los Angeles, Tess opened to Clark Kent about her father's abuse.[2]
Season Ten[]
In 2010, Tess learned the truth of her origin.[1]

- The character's name was never established. However, as the last name of Tess (born Lutessa Luthor) is Mercer, her adoptive father's is presumably the same.
- Mr. Mercer only appears in photographs in the episode Abandoned. The name of the actual man in the photographs is unknown.
- Because of the childhood abuse that Mr. Mercer had subjected her to, the grown Tess did not like to go home for Christmas.[1]
