History[]
Little is known about the native land of Mikhail Mxyzptlk, including its name. According to Lex Luthor, it is a war-torn country, due to an apparent civil war. In 2004, Mikhail Mxyzptlk left the country to be an exhange student in the United States of America.[1] However, his stay proved short, and Mikhail was eventually sent back to his native country.[2]

Notes[]
- The country's name is never established. It is said to be in the Balkans. The Balkans include the countries Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (informally, "Bosnia"), Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Romania, Montenegro, Serbia (between 1992 and 2006, Serbia and Montenegro was one country, that had been known as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1992 to 2003), and Slovenia. However, fictional countries like Vlatava[3] and Kahndaq[4] are known to exist in the universe of Smallville, making it possible that Mikhail Mxyzptlk's country is another fictional/DC universe country, as opposed to one of the real-world Balkan countries. Details given about Mikhail's country (said to be war-torn, seemingly suffering from a prolonged civil war)[1] does not line up with the history of the real-world Balkan countries (indicating that it is more likely a fictional country). There are some fictional countries, in the DC universe canon, that are depicted as being in the Balkans:
- Borotavia, which first appeared in Action Comics #467 (January, 1977). Like Mikhail's unnamed country, Borotavia is depicted as a country in a civil war. Incidently, Action Comics #467 also features a separate Mr. Mxyzptlk story.[5]
- Granaco, which first appeared in Green Lantern Vol 2 #19 (March, 1963).
- Kaznia, which originated in the DCAU (but has since been incorporated into mainstream DC continuity). Kaznia has been depicted as having a long civil war.
- Modora, which first appeared in Green Lantern Vol 2 #14 (July, 1962). A Smallville Ledger tie-in article establishes the existence of Modora in the universe of Smallville.[6]
- Transbelvia, which first appeared in Birds of Prey #18 (June, 2000). Transbelvia has also been depicted as suffering from a civil war.[7]
