In the Comics[]
Metropolis has had several mayors over the years. A high number of them have been unnamed.[1][2][3][4] The first mayor of Metropolis appeared in Action Comics #12 (May, 1939), where Superman stops him for speeding.
At times, during the 1940s, the mayor of Metropolis was assigned a name. Though, it was seemingly either a new mayor each time, or the result of inconsistent naming. These included Mayor Worth,[5] Mayor Caldwell,[6] and Mayor Gerard.[7] In the 1970s, the mayor of Metropolis was Mayor Harkness.[8][9][10][11]
Following the Johny Byrne reboot in the 1980s, a notable and long-running Metropolis mayor was Frank Berkowitz, who first appeared in The Man of Steel #4 (November, 1986). He was assassinated in Superman Vol 2 #131 (January, 1998), and replaced by Bradford "Buck" Sackett (who was in the pocket of Lex Luthor). Action Comics #894 (December, 2010) introduced Mayor Fleming, an African-American woman.
