Mary is a young girl living in Metropolis.
Season Eleven[]
In Metropolis, the Metropolis Police Department is dealing with a hostage situation, as a school bus has been suspended high above the streets by a crane and some thugs wearing high tech teleportation vests are holding the young children hostage. Mary sits next to Billy, who decides to play a hero. Mary begs him not to do anything stupid and to leave it to the adults, but he does not listen. Mary watches in terror, as Billy confronts the main thug, which is interrupted by the arrival of Superman; who saves all the children on the bus, including Mary.
Months later, Mary finds herself trapped in a tenement fire, with her father. The two make it up to the roof, but emergency services refuse to get too close, when the fire intensifies. However, they were not the only ones to respond to the emergence. Tess Mercer hijacks the emergency helicopter and uses its speakers to comfort Mary, while Tess forces a nearby crane to get close enough for Mary and her father to climb onboard it and get to safety. When the emergency crew admits that it was not them who saved Mary and her father, Mary declares Tess a hero.
Appearances[]
In the Comics[]
Being a brunette girl, named Mary, who is either a friend or the sister of Billy Batson, Mary is presumably Mary Bromfield. First appearing in Captain Marvel Adventures #18 (December, 1942), Mary Bromfield was revealed to have been born Mary Batson, the twin sister of Billy Batson (Captain Marvel). She soon becomes a superhero when she says Shazam, turning her into Mary Marvel. With the new 52, Mary Bromfield was changed into Billy's foster sister.
Notes[]
- The character first appeared in Detective. In Hollow, it's revealed that her first name's "Mary".
- It is unknown if Mary is the sister or just a friend/classmate of Billy Batson. Traditionally, Mary and Billy have been depicted as twins (who were split up, with Mary being raised as "Mary Bromfield"). However, a revamp (made around the time of the publication of the Season Eleven comic book series) changed Billy Batson and Mary Bromfield into foster siblings. In the Season Eleven comic book, neither Billy's mom or Mary's father is indicated as having a second child, with Billy's mother only being seen with him (and making no mention of Billy having a sibling).
- Due to it being unknown if Mary and Billy are siblings or just classmates/friends, it is unknown if Mary's full name is "Mary Batson" or "Mary Bromfield".
