Smallville Wiki

LuAnne Dobson, better known as Luna, is a witch, and a runaway that Clark Kent met in Metropolis.

Physical appearance[]

Luna is about the same age as Clark Kent. She has an angelic face, with wavy, dirty blond hair. She usually wears black eyeliner, but no other make-up. When she first met Clark Kent, she was wearing a long black coat that looked like it was made out of teddy bear fur, a white T-shirt, pink bell-bottom cords, and black Converse sneakers. The whole look made her look like a fugitive from a band.[1]

Early life[]

Luna grew up in Miami, Florida. For as long as she can remember, she felt like she was different. As a child, Luna always knew who was calling before someone answered the phone. Animals could mentally talk to her. One such instance was when the family dog became ill, and Luna informed them that the dog had told her that he had swallowed a pair of rolled-up socks belonging to her dad. Her parents dismissed it, but when the dog was operated on, they found the rolled-up socks in his stomach. One night, Luna dreamed that her dad died in a car accident. A week later, her dad was killed by a drunk driver. However, afterwards, she could still talk to her dad.[1]

When Luna told her mom about it, she got angry. Believing that Luna was on drugs, she tore apart Luna's room. When she found odd items in Luna's possession, tarot cards and candles, she thought that her daughter had lost it, and began calling psychiatrists. As her mom, and some of her friends, thought that Luna was a freak, she ran away. Coming to Metropolis, she was rescued by Sean at the bus station. He took her in, and made her part of the Tribe, a group of teen runaways in the city.[1]

Runaway[]

Luna first met Clark Kent when he arrived at the Metropolis bus station. She helped him out, and took him to where the Tribe lived. Over the next few days, Luna and Clark became close and kissed each other. She revealed her powers to him. However, their closeness angered Sean, who tried to get rid of Clark. In the end, Sean set the house where the Tribe lived on fire. Clark managed to get all the other kids out, but he and Luna found themselves trapped. They had to jump to escape the fire, but first Luna cast a spell. The two jumped, but during the fall Clark felt like both he and Luna were floating. As they came close to the ground, the effect seemingly wore off, and Clark grabbed Luna to protect her from the impact.

Afterwards, most of the Tribe, including Luna, were handed over to Child Services. Luna and Clark said goodbye to each other at the Metropolis airport, when Luna was heading back home to Miami (where her mother was overjoyed to have her daughter come back). As she was about to board her flight, she kissed Clark one last time, and whispered "see you in your dreams."

One night, three weeks later, Clark was asleep in his bedroom, when he was awoken by someone talking to him. As he was waking up, he felt someone kissing him, but when he opened his eyes, he was alone. At first, he was unsure if it had been a dream or real, but then began to smile.

Notes[]

  • Runaway ends with Luna heading back to Miami. In Season Four, one of the colleges that Clark considers enrolling in is the University of Miami.[2]
  • It is left vague whether Luna knows Clark's secret.[1]
  • Luna was never mentioned on the show. The events of Runaway is set before Season Four, but when Clark Kent meets Bart Allen in the Season Four episode Run, Clark claims to have never met anyone with powers who was not from Smallville/had not gotten their powers from exposure to Green Kryptonite.[3] Though, even limited to the TV show itself, Clark's statement ignores Chrissy Parker (who was not from Smallville, and had her powers long before the 1989 Meteor Shower) in the Season Two episode Redux,[4] and recurring character Ryan James (who got his telepathy as a side effect from a brain tumor).[5] During the early seasons, a lot of guest characters (especially the ones with powers) tended to be forgotten about by the next episode.
  • The future of Luna might have been hinted at by dialogue. In Absolute Justice, Part 2, Doctor Fate (who could see the future) informs Clark that him becoming Superman (and people looking up at him in the sky) will lead to everyone embracing a Silver Age of heroism.[6] In Continuity, Superman tells the world that the world's (benevolent) superpowered population will always rise up to protect them.[7] It is possible that this (i.e. the people who becomes superheroes) includes LuAnne Dobson/Luna.
