The unnamed human was a fetus being conceived in Martha's womb.

Season 2[]

After Clark got sick from kryptonite spores, Jor-El shot out a burst of healing energy from the ship, curing Clark and Martha's infertility. The Kents were working on preparations for the baby to feel right at home. After Clark put the kryptonite key into the ship, it exploded and sent out a distabilising shockwave, killing the baby before it was born.

Appearances[]

Notes[]

  • In a way, the Kent baby's death was a catalyst for Clark to accept his destiny, because it was the baby's death that compelled Clark to put on the Red Kryptonite ring, and the only way to stop him was for Jor-El to give Jonathan powers, which resulted in his heart attack. This lead to Clark becoming his own man and leaving the farm, and ultimately becoming Superman.

In the Comics[]

Jonathan and Martha Kent have had other children in the comics, besides Clark. Though, like Clark, they have usually been adopted.

Superboy #108 (October, 1963) revealed that Jonathan and Martha had adopted a boy named Tim, before they adopted Clark, who was from a planet called Ulgar. Tim erased all evidence of his existence (and made the Kents forget about him), and returned years later as supervillain Mighto.

In the 1986 reboot by John Byrne, Jonathan and Martha are established to have had two miscarriages and a stillborn child (gender unknown) before they found Clark in his spaceship.[1]
