- "We--capes, vigilantes, metahumans--from every corner of the world you know...and from the world beyond...we will always rise to the challenge when anyone or anything threatens your safety, well-being and way of life...a unified league of Heroes that will never fail to champion--Justice...and Freedom, for all peoples...and we're here to stay"
- — Clark Kent, Continuity
The Justice League is a team of heroes working together to keep both Metropolis and Earth safe. It has been headed at different times by Green Arrow, Watchtower and finally Superman.
Overview[]
The group was originally founded to stop Lex Luthor and his Level 33.1 project(s), located around the Earth. This founding team included Green Arrow, Cyborg, Impulse and Aquaman, as well as Boy Scout and Watchtower (who at that time were part-time members). Together they successfully neutralized many LuthorCorp facilities, stopping LuthorCorp's testing on meteor-infected people.
In 2007, Black Canary joined the team after initially being tricked by Lex Luthor into fighting the League.
In late 2008, after a global search to find Clark after the Fortress of Solitude was destroyed, LuthorCorp (now headed up by Tess Mercer, after the disappearance and later death of Lex Luthor) discovered the secret identities of Aquaman and Black Canary. Shortly after, the team decided to back off of LuthorCorp for a while and disbanded.
In early 2009, the group attempted to save the Earth by sacrificing the life of Davis Bloome, the camouflage of the monster Doomsday, only to almost get them all killed. By the time they buried Doomsday underground, Jimmy Olsen had lost his life. After the death of Jimmy, the group scattered all across the Earth. Oliver, who took it very hard, pursued a global venture of excess and debauchery, in an attempt to mask his pain. Chloe, realizing the need to protect the Earth against Tess Mercer and LuthorCorp, reunites the team to encourage Oliver to become Green Arrow again. Oliver soon realizes that the war against evil is larger than his personal self-interests and how important his role in that endeavor can be.
In 2010, they teamed up with the long retired Justice Society of America to stop the notorious hitman, the Icicle (a pawn of the secret government organization Checkmate) from killing all of the JSA's members. John Jones's re-gained his powers right before Doctor Fate sacrificed his life and allowed Icicle to kill him. The teams battled Icicle and defeated him. Checkmate also tried to get the team to work for them (as they tried with the JSA years before), but Martian Manhunter erased Amanda Waller's memory of their identities. The team, once again, teamed up with the Justice Society to battle the Kandorian army. When the Blur, now the established leader replacing Green Arrow, told them that he was going to send them (and himself) away, Cyborg told him that, as one, they would protect the Earth in his absence. When the Blur went to take them away, he was stabbed by General Zod with a blue kryptonite dagger, which suppressed his Kryptonian powers and prevented him and General Zod from leaving with the rest of the Kandorians.
Rick Flag, leader of the Suicide Squad survived Zod's attack on Checkmate and put together a new Suicide Squad and kidnapped Green Arrow forcing Watchtower to sacrifice herself in exchange for Green Arrow before faking her death. Flag later tried to recruit Green Arrow to his cause to prevent the Vigilante Registration Act from happening. In Watchtower's absence, The Blur and Green Arrow welcomed former enemy Tess Mercer into the team as the new Watchtower. With the VRA continually causing public fear and hysteria the heroes had been forced underground but came back together to mourn the loss of Hawkman who died protecting Lois Lane from Slade Wilson. While at Hawkman's funeral they are captured by the VRA. Chloe returns and with help from the suicide squad (who now work for her) helps the team escape the virtual reality the VRA trapped them in.

Season Six[]
- "Green Arrow to Watchtower, Boy Scout's out of the woods." - Green Arrow, Justice
When Lex's Level 33.1 project, which is studying and using people with super-powers as weapons, comes to fruition, Oliver Queen brings together several heroic super-powered allies together: Arthur Curry, Bart Allen and Victor Stone.
Bart has been breaking into LuthorCorp facilities and downloading files. As a result, Lionel meets Lex and tells him that another LuthorCorp facility has been hit. Lionel says six facilities have been attacked, all having to do with 33.1. Lex is not worried and shows Lionel a security camera photograph of a red blur. Lex says that whoever is responsible can move very fast and he intends to catch them and make them a test subject.
Chloe reveals that she knows Oliver is the Green Arrow. Clark admits that Bart can
super speed. He says Bart is in some kind of trouble and asks her if they can track his cell phone. They look up his records and realize that Bart is working for Oliver Queen. Meanwhile, Bart is at his next assignment, but is caught by an electrical trap and knocked unconscious. Lex arrives immediately to take possession of him.
The next day, Clark confronts Oliver about Bart. Clark thinks Oliver is using Bart to fuel his vendetta against Lex. They argue because Oliver says that Clark is waiting for trouble to show up at his doorstep. Oliver explains to Clark about 33.1 and says his team is working on it as Arthur Curry and Victor Stone arrive. Oliver is working to stop
Lex from using 33.1 to build an army of super-powered meteor freaks and eventually starting a war. Clark concedes and asks for more information. Oliver knows Lex has Bart and his team is already on it.
Meanwhile, Bart wakes up in a cell and Lex wants to know who he's working for. When Bart does not answer, but retorts, Lex activates the pressure plates in his cell: if Bart does not keep moving he will be intensely electrocuted.
Oliver and his team work to locate Bart and narrowed it down to 100 miles. Clark suggests they get help and he goes to Chloe. She gets a lead and Clark tells her to get the information to Oliver while he
goes to the Ridge Facility, where Bart is located. Clark insists he goes to the facility to rescue Bart alone, saying he can get there faster.
Chloe goes to Queen Tower and gives Oliver the lead on Bart. Oliver pulls up a schematic of the building and Chloe notices several rooms lined with lead. They prepare to move out to check the facility and Chloe realizes that the facility is also being used to store meteor rocks. Clark enters the lead-lined vault containing refined meteor rock and collapses.
Green Arrow knocks two guards unconscious and then the team enters while Chloe coordinates from his "watchtower."
Victor interfaces with the alarm system and Arthur enters from the harbor entrance. Green Arrow and Cyborg go in on foot, then Cyborg goes off on a separate mission, while in his cell Bart begins to slow down form exhaustion. Each of them individually take out the guards, with Green Arrow knocking the one unconscious who has found Clark. Green Arrow sends him to get Bart then heads off, planting explosives.
Cyborg and Aquaman meet up and Cyborg interfaces with the main computer. Clark gets Bart out just in time while Lex arrives to order a lockdown. Bart is so exhausted that his nose is bleeding, as well as he can't use his super-speed. Green Arrow confronts him and warns that he has ten minutes to get everyone out before the place blows. He then shoots an arrow at Lex, barely
cutting his cheek, also scaring him.
Chloe confirms that everyone has left the building and even Clark agrees to blow up the facility. They get out and Green Arrow triggers the charges, destroying the facility.
The team meets with Clark and Chloe in his barn (out of "uniform"). Oliver reports that Lex is setting up laboratories all over the globe and asks Clark to join the team.
Clark says he wants to, but he has to clean up his own mess first - meaning he has to capture all of the Zoners still out of the Phantom Zone. The members left Clark behind to go across the Earth to find more divisions of Lex's Level 33.1 project and stop his other illegal plans. Oliver shakes Clark's hand, then Oliver and his young justice team leave for their next mission, proudly saying, "Come on boys, let's go save the world."
It remains unknown if they are aware Clark has destroyed a 33.1 facility nearby Smallville.
Justice and Doom[]
- "Before you begin, a question: do you know the true origin of your team?" - Martian Manhunter, Justice and Doom
Smallville Legends: Justice and Doom is an animated comic book that further explores the adventures of Green Arrow's team. In these, the Green Arrow, Cyborg, Aquaman, Impulse, as well as Watchtower all work together to take out the rest of Lex Luthor's Level 33.1 facilities.
The team also defeated another Ares prototype set loose in Utah. Oliver offered Chloe valuable clues from his experiences when she and Clark were trying to defeat Wes Keenan.
The story also insinuates that the Martian Manhunter had been in contact with Dr. Virgil Swann, since he is seen using the large orbital satellite built by Swann Communications, as a base. The Martian Manhunter is also seen wearing the costume he currently wears in the comics as well when he turns into his Martian form at the end of the web story arc.
Season Seven[]
When Green Arrow's band of heroes thwarts his efforts once too often, Lex employs a super-powered vigilante Black Canary, also known as Dinah Lance, to take down the Emerald Archer.
Chloe is working late at the Daily Planet using the computers to intercept a file, as a masked figure watches her from the shadows. As she burns it to disc, the figure throws a knife at her and Chloe runs outside, letting the person she's in contact know she's in danger. Chloe gets to the roof where the figure attacks her: a blond woman in black with a black band of makeup across her eyes. She draws a knife on Chloe, but Green Arrow arrives and pins her to the wall. She pulls free and as Green Arrow fires three arrows, the woman deflects them with a sonic blast. She then knocks down Chloe and takes the disc, jumps off the roof and breaks her fall with a cable.
Clark talks to Chloe as she looks through files on female criminals and talks about how he's uncomfortable with the fact that Lana expressed her love for his phantom duplicate. Noticing her injury, Clark finally gets her to admit she's doing freelance work for Oliver Queen.
Clark goes to confront Oliver, angry that he put Chloe in danger. Oliver denies putting her at risk and notes they were hacking into Lex's projects. Meanwhile, the woman meets with Lex and turns over the disc and he offers to pay her to bring him Green Arrow.
Lex made Dinah believe that The Justice League were terrorists. So she breaks into Chloe's desk and checks her phone call log, finding Oliver Queen's number.
After deducing his identity, she arrives at Oliver's balcony and shatters the window with her "sonic scream." Oliver is knocked out. Oliver is held hostage and accused of being a terrorist. He denies it but she calls Lex and has him initiate the wire transfer.
Meanwhile, Clarks meets Chloe at the Planet, who realized that someone tapped into her activities at the Planet, from inside the Planet. Dinah Lance was the only one logged on and Chloe alters her photo to confirm she's the woman, who they nickname "Black Canary." Chloe locates the wire transfer and cuts it off.
Black Canary goes to see Lex only for Clark to intercept her. Clark insists Oliver is not the villain but when she attacks him she is bounces off. However, when she uses her sonic scream it overloads Clark's super-hearing, knocking him down long enough for her to escape.
After a confrontation with Clark she began to have doubts about Lex. Canary goes to see Lex and demands evidence about Green Arrow's supposed criminal activities. When she refuses, Lex shoots her but Green Arrow arrives and the two men fight. Black Canary arrives and takes out a guard, but as all three heroes shoot at each other, Clark arrives and deflects the bullets and arrows, then gets Black Canary away and lets Lex takes Black Canary's knife blade in the shoulder. Green Arrow walks out, wishing Lex better luck next time.
Black Canary has set up a meeting with Clark and Oliver to apologize and retire from crime fighting. Oliver suggests it would be a waste and she should join up with his team. Clark again defers on joining up and Oliver strolls away with Dinah.
Season Eight[]
- "Clark wouldn't give up on us, we're not gonna give up on him." - Green Arrow, Odyssey
The Justice League are shown attacking Tess Mercer's headquarters for the search of Lex Luthor in the Arctic, after cleaning out the camp, they come across a dead end when they find Clark's signature red jacket and nothing else.
The team then head to the Isis Foundation to use Lana's computers to try and find out information about Lex's disappearance but come up with nothing and almost give up, but Oliver convinces them that Clark would never stop looking for them. Dinah says that for the four weeks they have been searching they have found nothing, with Impulse and Cyborg searching the southern hemisphere.
However, Lex's teams have kidnapped Chloe roughly a month ago also and are pretending to be the DDS and try to make her track down a group of "terrorists", who are, unknown to Chloe, actually the Justice League. She uses her new power to track down Black Canary and Aquaman via cellphone and is about to get Oliver but recognizes his phone number and realizes who the "terrorists" are and discovers what she's done.
Despite Chloe refusing to give Oliver's number to track him down, Black Canary and Aquaman are both captured, leaving Oliver the only one left. This is unknown to Oliver however and he has managed to track down Clark to a shady Russian work camp and together they break out, but it is revealed that Clark is powerless due to the Orb. On a plane home, they realize that the rest of the League has been captured, however they work out that Chloe is being held in Montana, at a LuthorCorp Facility named Black Creek.
Together, Clark and Green Arrow break in the facility and split up in order to find Chloe. Oliver manages to find the rest of his team but is captured and injected with a serum to put him in his captors control. Clark, meanwhile bumps into Lois, (who has also been tracking down Chloe) and together they take down many guards and eventually save Chloe. Clark goes to find Oliver, only to find Oliver under the enemies control and Oliver shoots him twice in the chest, Clark starts to die in Chloe's arms after she fails to heal him, but Martian Manhunter arrives to save Clark and flies him to the sun. Although Clark gets his powers back, Martian Manhunter (whose weakness is fire) loses his powers.
The Justice League then meet at night in Metropolis and come to the conclusion, due to the fact that half the members have had their identities have been exposed, that they should disband for a while and go underground. Oliver, however, whose identity remains a secret, decides to stay in Metropolis. He soon discovers that Lionel was responsible for the death of his parents, which caused him to completely abandon his heroic persona.
After several weeks, Clark confronts Oliver about his recent life choices and asks him for help to hide his identity by disguising himself as the red-blue blur. While in disguise, Oliver saves Jimmy from being kidnapped. This reminds Oliver of what its like to be a hero and decides to restart the Justice League.
After John Jones is shot while on duty as a police officer, Oliver arranges for his specialist doctor Emil Hamilton to help Jones' recovery due to his Martian physiology and reveals to Clark that he and Jones have been working together with Jones helping Oliver out as Green Arrow considering Jones as part of the team.
During Chloe's birthday celebrations, Clark missed it as he and Bart were off dealing with a crisis in Keystone City. After Chloe realized that she is missing something in her life, decides to be more hands on with the Justice League and becomes Watchtower full-time, putting online a system that tracks all of the members.
Clark asked for help by Bart and Dinah to get rid of Doomsday once and for all by burying him under a Geothermal LuthorCorp facility. Clark gave Bart Black kryptonite and told him that he was going to split Davis from Doomsday and then bury Doomsday. Oliver crashed the meeting and told Clark they need to kill Doomsday but Clark said no and told Bart and Dinah about Oliver killing Lex.
Bart and Dinah sided with Oliver and betrayed Clark and when they captured Chloe and Davis, Clark arrived where Green Arrow shot a kryptonite dart in his back so that he wouldn't be able to stop them. They took Davis and Chloe to the Geothermal facility and planned to bury Davis down there but he began to transform uncontrollably when Chloe used Black kryptonite to separate the two beings. Doomsday then wreaked mayhem on Metropolis
where Clark arrived after Jimmy found him and removed the dart and also learned his secret. Clark located Doomsday and after a brief tussle between the two, brought him back to the facility crashing into it where the Justice League blew the tunnel trapping Doomsday.
After the team attended Jimmy's funeral after Davis killed him, they went missing leaving Chloe in her new Heroes base, "The Watchtower" and Clark who has given up hope on humanity declaring that Clark Kent is dead.
Season Nine[]
After Chloe tracked down all of the scattered Justice League members, they realized that they needed to bring Oliver back from his own personal demons and arranged to play a game that would bring the hero of Oliver from within. They hired Victoria Sinclair as the face of the game and kidnapped Oliver from a casino owned by Victoria aka Roulette and imprisoned Oliver in a casket. It's later revealed that Black Canary shattered the window in the warehouse, Impulse saved Oliver from the truck and Cyborg hacked into Oliver's bank account to "rob" him as Watchtower was watching the whole thing. At the end of the game Oliver once again became the Green Arrow telling The Blur that he will be there to help.
Clark, Oliver and Chloe discovered that their identities were at risk when they learned of an older organization of heroes known as the Justice Society of America. When they realized that the Society's members
were being killed one by one by the villain, the Icicle, they made an alliance with the Society. Unfortunately, the alliance was strained by the fact that Oliver and the JSA's leader Carter Hall AKA Hawkman, did not get along. Together, they managed to defeat the Icicle and John Jones even managed to get his powers back. The Society taught Chloe and Oliver the fact that they shouldn't act only as a team but as a family, which Oliver took to heart, inviting Chloe and John to go get something to eat after they had won their battle. Oliver was captured by Tess Mercer where he was introduced to Checkmate leader
Amanda Waller who asked him to join Checkmate. Clark and Chloe talk about Green Arrow and talks about him not following protocols where the JL members plug in to Watchtower when the go on Patrol which he did not know about. He later escaped and went to Watchtower and they talk about Checkmate. Soon after, John secretly tried to investigate the agency known as Checkmate. Unfortunately his investigation pit him against Clark who found his motives suspicious. Unwilling to deal with Clark at the moment, John flew off. He then used his powers to read the mind of an agent of Checkmate to find the location of their headquarters in order to retrieve the stolen alien blood sample, Amanda Waller awaited for his arrival and set up a trap that placed John in a cage made of fire . Chloe tried to find out the whereabouts of various supervillains such as Cameron Mahkent who were sent to the Belle Reeve. However she was kidnapped by Checkmate. Oliver and Clark find out that Tess is an Checkmate Agent. She told him that they were after something called "Watchtower", telling Clark and then Oliver. John used his shape-shifting ability to trick a guard by masquerading as Amanda Waller to release him from
the fiery cage. Clark proceed to meet with Amanda Waller who requested him and the JLA to join Checkmate in order to stop an alien threat. She also wanted Clark to give Amanda the location of Watchtower's central database in order to get the names, faces and addresses of Black Canary, Impulse, Aquaman and Cyborg as well as show her his true face so Chloe wouldn't be killed. She criticized Clark for leaving Chloe vulnerable to attack. Oliver then immediately shut down Checkmate's power which allows Clark to save Chloe. John then proceeded to destroy any evidence of the blood sample with his Martian vision and before leaving, wiped Waller's memory of her knowledge of the secret identities of members of the Justice League.
When Major Zod declared war on Earth, the team assembled to handle the crisis. Watchtower, Green Arrow, Impuse, Cyborg and Black Canary team up with JSA members Hawkman and Stargirl with the Blur (Clark) taking the role of leadership. Clark tells the team that he will use the Book of Rao to send the Kandorians away, but that he must go too. Hawkman and Cyborg say that they must bring the fight to the Kandorians, but Martian Manhunter disagrees. He says that they must let Clark do what he must with his people. When they finally let Clark go through with it, Cyborg re-assures him that they will all help protect the Earth in his (Clark's) absence. When Clark finishes what he has to say, Hawkman, Cyborg, Black Canary, Stargirl and Martian Manhunter all salute him. Later, when Clark fights Zod, Zod stabs Clark with a Blue Kryptonite dagger. When Zod ascends into New Krypton, Clark falls off a building not ascending with his people.
Season Ten[]
After Clark was saved by Lois Lane, Chloe went to the JSA Brownstone to find Dr. Fate's Helmet. Chloe used it to track Oliver who was kidnapped by Checkmate. After Chloe did this, she traded herself for Oliver and went missing. Oliver became upset and even went to find Rick Flag who kidnapped him and Chloe. After he told him she was dead, he went and found out that she wasn't. The members of Checkmate's new Suicide Squad came after the members of the team including Clark, Oliver, as well as Carter Hall. They taged the League with little tracking devices to keep tabs on them. Clark then dawns his "red and blue" colors again, as he tries to be a "symbol of hope". After Clark sees his future as Superman and Oliver reveals that he is the Green Arrow to the Earth, the team starts to function a little better, they even welcome Tess Mercer as a part of their team, making her the "new" Watchtower in Chloe's place, after helping them defeat Isis.
Some time after these events, as well as after the Vigilante Registration Act was passed, Arthur and his new wife Mera started to attack VRA prisons off the coast of Miami, Florida. The Blur went down there to set things strait with Aquaman, but A.C. revealed to him that Col. Slade Wilson was using these prisons for vigilante torture. After Oliver Queen publicly (in front of Tess and Lois Lane) signed himself over to the VRA to act as a spy for the team, Aquaman and the Blur find out that he was actually kidnapped and try to rescue him, with Aquaman getting captured in the process. With the help of Lois, Mera, as well as Tess Mercer, Clark sets out to rescue his fallen teammates only to be trapped himself by Slade. Mera finds Oliver and A.C. just in time before Slade blows up the building. After all of this, Clark welcomes Lois to the League and shows her the Watchtower. He then reveals to the team the looming threat of Darkseid.
When Clark Kent accidentally activated the Kryptonian Mirror box and came to a parallel Universe, his evil doppelganger Clark Luthor also known as Ultraman took his place on the Earth-1. Tess found out about this and tried to call the team for help, but to no avail. She managed to contact Lois to come to Watchtower for her safety, but Luthor found Watchtower's Location and damaged it severely while trying to get the Mirror Box from Tess so he could destroy and trap Kent in his universe forever while he take over Earth-1. Oliver came to Watchtower to help Tess and Lois stop Ultraman with kryptonite weaponry. Meanwhile Kent managed find the mirror box in the parallel earth and upon activating it he returned to his universe and sent Luthor back to his where he destroyed the box to insure that Ultraman would never return to his reality ever again.
Later, The League assembled lead by Tess to throw Lois and Clark a surprise engagement party to celebrate their recent engagement. After a happy night, Oliver stopped a mugging in progress, but because he had been recently been labeled as a terrorist by the VRA he is viciously attacked by citizens who begin to beat upon him. Until he is rescued by Carter and Courtney who take him back to Watchtower to tend to his injuries. Slade who was presumed dead, resurfaces and accuses the vigilante community for the lose of his eye and ordered the military to find and capture all members of the team and suspected supporters. Key members: Tess, Emil, as well as Lois were captured, but eventually escaped.
Later, Slade tried to kill Lois at Luthorcorp, hoping to draw out Clark out of hiding but Hawkman burst in the building and fought Slade in a vicious duel. Hawkman managed to hold his own against Slade during the fight until they broke a gas pipe that temporarily impeded Carter's vision and Slade used this opportunity to his advantage and stabbed Carter in the back. The gas pipe behind him ignited causing a massive explosion. Carter's wings protected him from the flames but the explosion created a shockwave that sent Lois hurtling out the window and plummeting to the street below With Carter's last bit of strength, he dove after Lois and wrapped her in his wings to break her fall and protected her long enough until he could reunite her with Clark who had managed to find Slade and defeat him by banishing him to the Phantom Zone. The entire Justice League later came together to lay Carter to rest in Egypt, where he was buried next to his wife: Shayera Hall. During the funeral a mysterious white pyramid came out of the sand and after a flash of white light the League was left unconscious.
The team found themselvestrapped in a virtual world setup by the VRA to learn how to control each of their special abilities and skills. One by one, the League was released starting with Oliver and then Dinah, thanks to Chloe Sullivan and the Suicide Squad.
When Slade Wilson was found unconscious on a street corner, the league was able to use Booster Gold's technology secure the Phantom Zone.
At the Daily Planet, Clark went to see Lois in her new office, as she was investigating a story about the a business organization called Marionette Ventures, which was buying out various small businesses in order to control the water front properties. Meanwhile, Courtney was working with John Jones to investigate Marionette Ventures and found out it is composed of various supervillains, only to get herself under their control by committing crimes when they implanted a device on her neck. Clark and Lois were able to stop her and save her by removing the device. Courtney was present at Watchtower when Tess was analyzing the device finding out Toyman was the creator of the device.Under the suggestion to kill the Blur/Clark, Lois set out to find him and with 30 seconds until sundown for Clark to have his powers back. At their meeting, each member was assigned a target from the Justice League. Eventually, Clark reached out to her with his declaration of love and it stalled out for the moment. After she failed and the ordeal was done, Clark paid a visit to Winslow Schott to tell him that even though Toyman knew Clark's true identity, Clark knew he wouldn't reveal it to the public because the Toyman still had some "games" to play so he will always be there to stop him and his allies.
During the invasion of Apokolips caused by Darkseid, Oliver was shown to have been corrupted by Darkseid and joined his minions in stopping Clark. John helped out Tess at Watchtower by turning
Watchtower's new space station online to detect the planet for the League. Clark was able to help Oliver and relieve him of his corruption. Because of the interference Apokolips was giving off on the Earth's communication systems, Clark and Oliver could not get a hold of the League to tell them of the threat. Instead, they had Chloe Sullivan go to her base in Star City to round them up for the fight. Going to find a way to help, Oliver returned to Watchtower to get his Green Arrow gear and returned to the Unholy Trinity (Darkseid's minions) and defeated them. After her capture from Lionel Luthor (Earth-2), Tess Mercer (the current head of Watchtower for the League) found out Lex was alive, shot Lionel and escaped. She arrived at Luthorcorp to go and help the League only to be killed by Lex Luthor after his return. Finally with little time left remaining before Apokolips clashed into Earth, Clark embraced his destiny as Superman, defeated Darkseid and sent Apokolips away, Superman was able to save the planet in time. The aftermath caused by Darkseid to the league was Clark now used the name Superman instead of the Blur and that their old nemesis Lex Luthor has returned, taken over Luthorcorp and turning it to LexCorp and now Lex has no memory of his past only the hatred and darkness from those memories remained.
Season Eleven[]
Six months later, Oliver currently resides within the walls of Watchtower, back in Metropolis with his wife - Chloe Sullivan-Queen. Oliver, in his Green Arrow getup, finds himself without work in Metropolis, as Superman has kept the streets clean for months. When Chloe asks if his night was long, Oliver admits it was "quiet, as always." The two share a coffee together as they wait for any signs of Superman before resuming their previous plans.Chloe confides in Lois that Oliver is currently rebuilding Queen Industries while going out and being a hero, as she's busy taking care of Watchtower and setting up similar Watchtower hubs in each of the Justice League member's home cities while working her day job as a reporter for the Star City Gazette.
Lex reveals to Oliver that he knows that Oliver is building a secret moon base for his team and threatens to reveal this to the public.
At a supply ship called Leviathan docked in Metropolis is an HQ for Batman and Nightwing, where inside they are getting medical treatment. The cameras pick up something and Bruce decides to head out alone, while Barb is in the Hub, when he looks outside to see what it is: the Bat-Signal.
Batman arrives on the rooftop source of the signal to find Superman waiting for him. Superman knows enough about the Batman that this is the specific way to call a meeting with him. Superman also knows Batman and Nightwing located Joe Chill's safe house in Suicide Slum.Superman doesn't want Batman tearing through Suicide Slum hell bent on revenge for Joe Chill so he proposes "a joint investigation mutually beneficial to both of us." They make sure Joe Chill is safe from Intergang and then find out who's manufacturing the weapons he's peddling and Batman agrees.
At Suicide Slum, Superman and Batman are on a stakeout. Batman is irritated by Superman's penchant for conversation but Superman seems to really be enjoying having a partner in crime fighting. Superman revealed that he didn't want to draw attention to it and compromise Batman's security because he knows Lex Luthor is watching all his movements. Superman and Batman then scans the building and Batman's night vision goggles spot some extra snipers Superman missed when he bathed the building with X-rays. Batman then easily and stealthily penetrates the safe house and finds Joe Chill's room, though Superman beats him there with Super speed.
At the safe house, Chill, a lifelong criminal, isn't exactly repentant about killing Batman's parents, whoever they were. Batman can't be specific and Chill has killed a lot of people for lots of reasons. This isn't good enough for Batman, who loses it, until Superman literally slaps him down. Superman calmly explains to Joe Chill that they're really here to find out where they can find a man named Loomis, who they believe is manufacturing the weapons Chill fenced for Intergang. But they don't have to look very far because Loomis is already there. Batman and Superman spring into action with Heat Vision and Batarangs, but a burst of cold takes out both. Loomis isn't alone. He has help from Mr. Freeze.
Superman and Batman are fighting Prankster and Mr. Freeze. While Superman tries to distract the villains, Batman and Joe Chill try to escape. Superman gets shot by Kryptonite bullets while Mr. Freeze kills Joe Chill and frames Batman for the crime.
Batman frees himself and sees that Chill is dead and Superman is critically wounded. Batman contacts Nightwing to inform her about Superman's condition. The FBI comes in to arrest Batman. Batman escapes with Superman within the Batmobile. Lois joins the police and the FBI in the pursuit chase.
Upon dropping off his last passenger, a bus driver doses off in the middle of the street, only to be waken up by the Batmobile going through his bus. News stations cover the pursuit of the "murderer Batman kidnapping a wounded Superman" just as Lois and Ollie meet up (wondering where Batman is taking Superman) and Chloe is hacking into the traffic system so no one is hurt during the chase.
Inside the Batmobile: Nightwing comments on the stress she's feeling over Superman being hurt and Batman being chased, just as Superman tells Batman to call him Clark and Batman, relieved that Clark is still alive, asks him who to call to save him. Nightwing calls Chloe, who in turn calls a choked up Lois: Nightwing gives her the situation: Superman has four Kryptonite bullets, none to the heart, but his vitals are fading. Nightwing, later, gives Batman Lois' message: get the Kryptonite out and then expose Superman to yellow sunlight. But as Batman says, he's already has his hands full.
A road block is set up, with cops surrounded, so Batman can't "go through it" like before, so he comes up with a different idea. Shifting the front tires to a "X" position and firing the boosters from below, the Batmobile literally goes around the road block from above. The cops, as well as even Lois and Ollie, can't believe what they saw. A helicopter approaches, with an EMP on board and Batman knows this and but can't do anything about it, until Ollie messages him that he can. Ollie simply "pops up" to the helicopter and it goes away.
Nightwing takes control of the Batmobile, leading it outside the Leviathan ship. Batman performs the surgery inside the car, just as Lois arrives and she sees it happening. After getting the bullets out, Batman reprograms his vest and splash Clark with yellow sunlight, just as the police report that they lost the Batman. Chloe is relieved that it's over, but Batman and Nightwing respond that it isn't: they need to make sure that the authorities know it was Freeze and Prankster who killed Chill. Ollie agrees, but also asks for his lawyer to be called too: he's been arrested.
Inside Leviathan: Clark wakes up with Lois by his side, where Lois reveals the Earth still thinks Batman killed Superman, as well as she can't help but be tempted by the huge story she's been given: Batman isn't a myth and is Bruce Wayne. Barbara Gordon, introducing herself to the two, gives Clark some orange juice before he heads out to speak with Bruce, who is hard at work at the armory. Bruce asks why Clark hasn't destroyed Lex' satellite, but Clark points out Lex would build more and that he prefers hope and inspiration over fear and brute force (in a way, criticizing Bruce's Batman). Bruce tells Clark that he's been having a hard time finding Prankster and Freeze, because Freeze needs to be in extreme colds to survive: Clark points out the Hobbs River as an idea, but the list is too big. Then Clark has an idea: use Lex' tracking from himself to read other types of radiation, like Kryptonite. Bruce tries that and then successfully, finds the villains' location. Given Clark's weaknesses and Bruce still being human who can't survive colds 40 below, Bruce reveals what he has built: armored suits for Superman and Batman to fight in. In order to still keep a low profile, the two heroes head out into the sewers with another one of Batman's vehicles: the Batboat.
At Freeze's hideout: Superman and Batman find no one there, at least until Prankster appears using a robotic suit Toyman was developing, complete with Kryptonite on the chest. He reveals that Freeze is under his control and is attacking the citizens, but in actuality, his suit's fuel cells are overloading and will explode. And with Freeze above the city's water purification plant, anyone within one mile will die. Batman heads out in the Batboat to take care of Freeze, while Superman goes to handle Prankster.
Leviathan: the ship's cameras pick up Intergang from all over and Barbara suits up with Lois by her side (Barbara says she's ready for an ass-kicking and when Lois tries to fix her statement, Barbara reassures her that she knows what she said). Green Arrow appears and stops Freeze from attacking the cops, but Freeze yells at Arrow to get clear as he is about to explode, affecting the plant below. Babs and Lois take care of Intergang while counting how many they've taken out (Lois took out 10, Nightwing took out 9) when the leader and two other men appear pointing their guns at them.
Prankster and Superman hold their own, until Superman's armor is destroyed thanks to Prankster's robot suit. Even with the Kryptonite now affecting and blinding him, Superman notices an area of the robot suit with its wires exposed. Superman then takes the wires and uses his heat vision to short circuit the suit. With Prankster out and both the robot suit and Kryptonite buried behind rubble, Superman wins the fight.
Superman asks Prankster if working with Intergang was worth it, but Prankster says it was awful and didn't like working with them and it wasn't until Superman and Batman's appearance that drove him to outsmart them before they got tired of him. When Prankster says that the blood of Intergang will be on Superman's hands too, Superman says "what did you do?" with Prankster replying "I won." Just then, the armed UAVs fire on Leviathan, with Intergang, Nightwing and Lois still inside and it begins to sink, but Superman saves the day.
Superman and Batman have been hailed as heroes by the Daily Planet, labeled World's Finest in the paper. In Gotham, Superman speaks with Bruce Wayne about his (Bruce's) parents. Bruce puts the flowers down and reveals that he and Superman are at the spot where his parents died. Bruce and Superman agree to work together if necessary.
Later on the moon at the construction site for Queen Industries' new Moon Base, Superman and Martian Manhunter oversee the construction which the S.T.A.R. Labs H.E.D drones help in the process. Clark shares some Double Stuff Oreo cookies with his friend and mentor when he receives an alert about an attack on Metropolis involving a former Project Ares subject. As Superman speeds off to deal with the threat, J'onn decides to return to his apartment in Metropolis.
Out in the streets of Metropolis, a Dr. Jones who wants to be called Psimon is looking for Lex, whose Project Ares has apparently given the diminutive doctor his purple skin, an oversized and glowing-through-his-skull brain and some kind of indeterminate psycho-molecular power. Psimon is not convinced a peaceful resolution to this situation is possible and shoots a purple blast at Lex, whom Superman saves and proceeds to returns to finish with Psimon, who proves to be able to act more quickly than Superman thanks to his enhanced synaptic firing. As he tries to capture Psimon, the criminal's telepathic abilities allow him to "feel" Superman's moves before he makes them and counteract them. Moving faster than thought, Bart arrives to help his old friend. The speedster, sporting a new costume, proves too quick for Psimon and is able to punch him into submission. To celebrate, Impulse speeds ice cream cones into the hands of all the nearby citizens, including Superman.
Later, in Batman's underground headquarters the Batcave, his cohort and confidante Alfred Pennyworth attends to Barbara, sedated in a recovery tank. Bruce searches through records on the Batcomputer to try to determine just what it was that attacked her. Alfred suggests that it might have been Matt Hagen, a man whose body has been transformed into malleable protoplasm who refers to himself as Clayface, which Bruce refutes. Alfred asks about a message the creature left at the scene in the sewer tunnel. Bruce says he ran it through the computer but can't find any match for the language, including Kryptonian symbols he's catalogued, leading him to the conclusion that it's an alien language. A voice from behind them informs them that the language is Martian. Bruce and Alfred turn to see John Jones.
Out in the ocean, Clark and Bart race each other above the water. Bart comments on Clark running slower than he used to, which Clark attributes to now having the ability to fly as well. Clark makes a wager that he can fly faster than Bart can run with the loser paying for lunch.
Alarmed at Jones' presence in the Batcave, Bruce throws Batarangs at the detective. John phase shifts and the Batarangs fly through him and past Alfred. He attempts to reason with Bruce, explaining that this fight with the White Martian is not his. With Barbara hurt and people dying in Gotham, Bruce begs to differ. John puts a hand to Bruce's head and begins to tap his mind, trying to alter his reasoning. Always prepared, Bruce tells Alfred to enact a safety protocol called "Babel Five," based on information he learned of Jones from Checkmate's files.
Alfred retrieves a flamethrower from a weapons locker and fires it in Jones' direction. With his fear of fire, Jones recoils and severs his connection with Bruce. Things returned to relative calm, John apologizes for the mind intrusion and offers a hand to help Bruce off of the floor. Wayne slaps the hand away and gets to his feet on his own. Putting on his Batman cowl, he steps to the Batmobile and tells Jones he has a crime scene to show him.
In the sewer tunnel where Batman and Nightwing encountered the White Martian, the place is crawling with Gotham City police detectives, commanded by police commissioner James Gordon. Stepping from the shadows, Batman tells Gordon he needs the cops out for the time being. Gordon is initially reluctant and Jones tells him this is a bigger problem than what's occurring in the city. Using a portable projector, Batman explains how he ran the Martian glyph through federal databases and revealed multiple locations where it has appeared over the past eighteen months. They identify it as a message and John tells them that the Martian got his attention with it: the symbol for his Martian name. Gordon clears the room of the detectives.
John confronts Batman about Gordon being unaware that his daughter is serving as the Dark Knight's apprentice and says that as a father he has a right to know that she was attacked. Batman explains that the solution she is suspended in at the cave will heal her wounds within hours. Other than some anxiety when she first emerges from the tank, Barbara will be fine, Batman assures John. He mentions John's vision and guesses that White Martian is hunting the Manhunter. When Batman addresses the fact he lives alone with no one to be harmed, it dawns on John that there are those in his building that might be. He flies off quickly.
Clark arrives in Mumbai, India, assuming that he has beaten Bart. As children swarm him for an autograph, he finds that Bart was not only there first but is playing a game of soccer with some of the locals. Later, as they share food, Clark describes how he can't return to his life as Clark Kent and must remain Superman for the time being due to Lex's irradiation ploy. Research from S.T.A.R. Labs has revealed that his healing ability from the rays of the sun is slowly curing the radiation. Bart suggests he fly into the sun to speed up the process and burn the rest of it away, but Clark tells him that Emil isn't sure they could stop the process from eventually turn him into raw energy if he tried it.
Though he's happy to spend some time with Bart, Clark points out that it's not really the speedster's style and asks if something is wrong. Bart deflects by saying he had to get a glimpse of Clark in a costume. A moment of appreciation between the two is broken up by a call from Chloe at Watchtower. She tells them that a situation with art thieves in Paris has arisen and as they don't have any agents in Europe as of yet, they are the two closest to respond. They make another wager over who can get there first. Bart gives Clark a head start and his friend bolts into the sky. As he prepares to run, Bart hears an ominous voice call his name. He looks around but sees nothing but the locals. Tapping into the Speed Force, he runs after the Man of Steel. At the Musée du Louvre in Paris, Superman and Impulse arrive to help the French police with a chaotic scene, baffled at the threat art thieves are presenting. Suddenly, a huge explosion racks the front of the museum. Out of the rubble runs Monsieur Mallah, a giant gorilla carrying the Mona Lisa. In a container slung around Mallah's back is the brain of the scientist who increased Mallah's intelligence to genius levels. The two lead a gang of monkeys and apes stealing art.
As Impulse attends to the smaller primates, Superman turns his attention to Mallah and the Brain. The Brain can speak through the container and Superman asks if he is Mallah's. Brain explains that they are lovers and helped each other escape from the experimentation that led to their current states. They plan to sell the stolen art to fund and form their own nation. Mallah pulls a gun and fires at the crowd.
Impulse runs to catch some of the bullets but sees there are too many. He taps into the Speed Force to move faster and is able to stop all of the projectiles. Using the Force, though, brings on the mysterious voice again. In Speed Time, Bart sees a dark creature run out of the Force that he's seen before, telling him that "It is time." The creature bolts toward Bart, reaching out to grab him.
Meanwhile, Superman uppercuts Mallah off of his feet, knocking him out. He turns to find the other monkeys and apes massing toward him. Winding his arms up and bringing his hands together in a superclap, Clark uses the force and the sound of the clap to upend all of the primates and knock them unconscious.
Clark finds a tired and scared Bart on his knees, muttering that "it" almost got him. Looking around the scene, Clark asks what Bart is talking about. Realizing the creature is nowhere to be found—and wanting to keep the secret to himself—Bart tells his friend it was nothing.
Batman radios Chloe Sullivan at Watchtower in Metropolis. He alerts her that something might be going down in the city and asks about Superman's location. Chloe says he's away on a mission in Utah. Yet, before she can suggest someone else to help, the Dark Knight breaks contact. He buzzes Alfred and like a well-oiled machine, Alfred notifies him that he's sent the Batwing to his location.
Flying over the Atlantic, Superman carries Bart, refusing to let him use his superspeed and risk being captured by the creature in the Speed Force. Bart mentions that it's always waited for him every time he's used his superspeed and Clark asks why he's never mentioned it before. The speedster explains that he always believed his speed had a cap until he was pushed into running faster than he'd ever imagined by Lex's torture for stealing LuthorCorp secrets. It was the first time he'd tapped into the Speed Force and the first time he saw the creature, a thing he referred to as a "Speed Demon" or "Black Racer," just the other side of the glass cage he was trapped in. When Clark rescued him from the cage, he also saved him from the demon.
With the creature always present, Clark asks why Bart wanted to race to India. Bart admits that, since Clark is the only one who can come close to keeping pace with him, he hoped that by the two going so fast and Clark not seeing the demon he could prove it was all in his head. Clark assures his friend that he's not crazy. He states that they need to devise a way for Clark to be able to face the demon.
In Metropolis, in the apartment of John's neighbor, the boy from earlier hears a loud noise from John's apartment. He runs out to check on the detective and finds a cloaked being in the apartment, holding the cracked Martian tablet and watching a TV news report about the art raid by monkeys in Paris and dead bodies caused by "speed storms." The boy asks where Jones is and the cloaked being attacks, revealing itself to be the White Martian. Chasing the boy downstairs toward his mother, the Martian is nearly upon them when John intervenes. At the building's front door, Batman orders mother and child out for their safety.
John fights with the White Martian. The creature identifies him by his Martian name, "J'onn J'onzz," and calls him a "murderer." As John unholsters his guns, the creature jumps on him and tries biting him. John struggles as Batman tosses a flare near them and orders John to roll away from it. The flare goes off, scaring the White Martian. It crashes through a window and escapes into the city. Batman helps John to his feet and asks why the creature accused him of murder. Staring out on the city, John admits to it.
Martian Manhunter and Batman go to Watchtower, where they talk about John's origin. Shortly after the conversation, Batman calls the Batcave and is informed that Barbara is fully recovered from the White Martian's attack. Later the two detectives connects all of the creature's victims at the Watchtower and finds out that the trail of corpses began in Colorado, where it was situated Checkmate's Headquarters.
The scientists at S.T.A.R. Labs set Bart and Clark up for a speed assessment. As Bart chats up a lovely blonde scientist, Emil asks Clark how he's able to be so jovial. Clark answers that Bart probably welcomes any distraction from being chased by the creature as long as he has. With everything set, Bart wonders how Clark will manage to match his speed, considering he runs a lot faster than Clark. Emil explains that the treadmills they are using for the assessment had been specially designed with a frictionless engine assembly when they began testing Clark's abilities. This will allow Bart to run as fast as he can while Clark's treadmill will accelerate him towards Bart's speed. They all hope that if they can get Clark fast enough, he can witness the creature as well. As they run, Clark encourages Bart to go full speed, insisting that he has his friend's back. With approval, Bart taps into the Speed Force and runs so fast that he causes the treadmill and the monitoring equipment to explode. As Clark falls to the floor, while in the Speed Force, the horrible creature towers over him, chastising his speed as "not pure." Outside of the force, Bart asks Clark if he was able to see the demon. Now knowing what he is dealing with, Clark assures his friend that he will find a way to save him.
Here the duo found a rocket's launch project and discover that the White Martian was kept prisoner in it. While look around Jhon finds the body of an agent who remains locked inside the facility with the creature: as Batman note however, it seem that he died under natural circumstances and before to did it, he recorded a message on his cellphone where he claims that his name is King Faraday and he begs the person which find his body to take care about his daughter.
While Batman and the Martian Manhunter listens at the tape, the White Martian watches them lurking in the shadows.
At that moment the White Martian leaps down from the shadows and attacks J'onn J'onzz, While Batman goes to the nesting spot of the Martian where he finds an ID card with a photo attached to it which he knows would be useful. Returning to the conflict between the two martians, Batman tells the White Martian to cease fighting as he knows her secret. He shows her the photo of Faraday's daughter and she manages to calm down and reveals her history telepathically to John Jones.
Elsewhere in Metropolis, Clark and Bart visit the JSA Brownstone, being tended to by a Mrs. Hunkel. She lets them past the security measures and Clark takes Bart into the museum honoring the members of the Justice Society of America. Bart recalls that this was Carter Hall's group but wonders how any of the artifacts will help them with his problem with the "speed demon." Clark explains they are there to begin a search for the first hero to break the sound barrier on foot, Jay Garrick.
Clark and Bart walk the white plains of Utah until they come upon an isolated house. An old voice asks if he can help them and Bart reveals they are looking for Jay Garrick. The man at the end of the voice steps from the house and identifies himself as Garrick.
At Garrick's house, the old man chastises Bart for stealing his identity. He asks him he did it and Bart admits that he doesn't know. He also reveals that he doesn't remember anything of his life previous to waking up with his abilities, just that there was a flash of light and the names of Garrick, Barry Allen, as well as Wally West just appeared in his head. Clark explains to Garrick the plan Carter Hall had of resurrecting the Justice Society of America with the help of the new, younger heroes. He asks for the elder's help.
Garrick suggests Bart talk to his old teammate, Pieter Cross, instead. Impatient, Bart asks what the old man knows about the "Black Racer." The elder speedster tells them his leg was broken when the federal government tried rounding up the JSA and he never wanted it repaired. When Clark attempts to ask why he would never want to run fast again, Bart correctly guesses that he's seen the demon. Garrick admits to it and explains that what is occurring to Bart happened to him. Clark mentions the speed storms and Garrick says it's the racer calling Bart out. Bart asks how the old man survived it and Garrick reiterates that he just stopped running. Bart adamantly refuses that option and the elder tells him the only other option is to die.
As the speed storm crackles in Utah, Clark tries to reason with Jay Garrick that there must be another option to help Bart. Garrick asserts that there is no choice in the matter and that by using the Speed Force, the demon is there to collect the debt. Clark asks why there were no records of speed storms while Garrick was with the JSA. The old man surmises that Bart is so fast that it has made the creature hungry and desperate. Picking up on the thought, Clark reasons that it is sending out the speed storms to try to create a new speedster to take on as its prey. Bart realizes that the biology of the speedsters is special and that's why so many have died in the attempts.
Bart asks Garrick how many speedsters there are. The old man gives a mealy answer about not being the first and Bart not being the last. Bart confronts him about not having raced the demon himself to stop to have possibly stopped it and Garrick denounces their abilities as a curse. Clark offers that curses can be blessings if they don't let their powers control their lives. Garrick likens Clark to Carter Hall and Bart jumps on the moment to call him out for not having stayed in touch with his team. The old man owns up to being proud of how he acted, but it's not good enough for Bart. Riled up, he starts tapping into the Speed Force before Clark manages to stop him.
In Las Vegas, Clark Kent saves a man from becoming another victim of a speed storm. He cannot save everyone but he does save as many as he can. Superman stops the speed storms and has everyone evacuate. An angry Black Flash, seeing that Superman is trying to stop him, decides to kill him. Superman and Black Flash begin to fight. Meanwhile, Jay Garrick gives Bart some advice before he goes off to join the fight.
Superman continues to fight the Black Flash. Just as Black Flash seems to be gaining the upper hand just as Bart arrives, prepared at last for the final showdown and his reckoning with the speed force.
Black Flash, finally satisfied that Bart arrive getting to feed on "Pure" speed. Bart then rush to take Clark out of the fight and proceeds to absorb the Speed Force out of Clark's containment suit. Clark tries to talk Bart out of taking on the Black Flash with Impulse revealed that the speedsters he met with told him that he was the only one who can take him down. Bart then confides in Clark that he never been alone and then rushes to take down Black Flash. Clark then proceeds to try to catch up and help Bart.
Bart rushes to Black Flash with Clark trying to convince him to slow down. They both flashback to back when they first met as teenagers back on the barn. Bart, who thanks Clark for looking out for him. He says he's going to explore the world, as well as invites Clark to come. Clark asks him to stay and Bart slyly says he'd consider it... if Clark can catch him. The two superspeed down the roads of Smallville, but Bart easily leaves Clark in the dust. Black Flash then tells Bart it is finally time to feed and Bart agrees and proceeds to give him all of his speed saying a final "Smell you Later" to Black Flash.
There is soon a big Speed Force explosion that took out both Bart and Black Flash out leaving a giant lightning bolt in the desert with Clark mourning and forced to tell Watchtower that Impulse is gone.
Sometime later at the JSA Brownstone, Clark and Jay look at the first Impulse Suit in the glass case. Jay Garrick feels somber about what happened saying Bart did what he should have done a long time ago. Clark tells Jay that everything end no matter what and Bart would have never stopped running, as long as you're running towards something. Abigail Hunkel and Emil came in to pay their respects. After Abigail and Jay left to get some tea and leave Clark and Emil to talk.
At LexCorp Plaza, Lex heads towards his office only to find that the lights aren't working. As he calls for Otis, Superman appears with Lex realizing that he found a way to remove the radiation off him. The Green Arrow appears revealing they are here to take Tess back. Then Lois appears surrounding Lex. As Green Arrow is about to use a taser arrow, Lois slaps Lex knocking him unconscious.
At Watchtower, Clark, Lois and Oliver stands patience as Emil downloads a grateful Tess into a computer system making her an hologram. Later she retakes her place in the team as Watchtower II, after Chloe's decision to leave with Oliver because of her pregnancy.
Weeks later at Seattle, there is a robbery involving men with robotic suits. Fortunately Black Canary and Speedy, who contact with Watchtower, are at the scene and deal with the problem.
Later Clark communicates with Watchtower asking her to sent him the coordinates for D.E.O.'s headquarters. When he arrives at the place he finds nothing in sight and calls Tess again but she verifies that this is the place where D.E.O.'s basis should be. Clark then finds out that the facility was actually underground.
Later there is an emergency call for a fire in the lower area of Metropolis. A father and daughter are trapped and firefighters can not come to their rescue. Tess tries to communicate with any member of the team but no one seem to be available at the moment so she decides to take action herself. With her control over all systems, Tess takes command of a helicopter and a crane arm and manages to create a bridge by which the two escape from the flames. People are surprised at what has happened and attribute it to a kind of invisible hero.
At Washington DC, Clark meets Diana and together they go for a walk to talk, when suddenly Tess communicates with Clark and tells him that she had tracked down the hostiles that he, Lois and Diana encountered at the cathedral the previous day and then she sends him the coordinates. Diana, listening to their conversation, asks who is this "Watchtower" and Clark replies by complimenting her super-hearing. Some time later, Superman and Diana arrive at the place, where Tess sent them and Diana says she feels that dark magics were perpetrated there.
After Superman's revelation to the Earth that he is an alien, Superman is flying in space above the Earth when he suddenly hears a bullet train in Japan that cannot be stopped so he goes back to work. Tess, who observes the situation and supports Superman from the Watchtower, informs "Boy Scout" of a fluctuation in Earth's magnetic pole that has destabilized the train's track system but still she does not know what caused it. Fortunately Superman succeeds in saving the train, slowing it down and no one gets hurt.
At Watchtower, Chloe, Tess, Clark and Lois discuss Earth-2, which was presumably annihilated by the Monitors and Clark wonders what crime could that Earth have committed to deserve to merit annihilation. Chloe says everything she knows about the alternate Earth and the Monitors but also informs them that the memories, that were transported to her from her doppelgänger never actually took root and she only gets fleeting glimpses. Tess informs them that Lex is preparing his jet to visit Moscow and Lois thinks of a way to sneak in as a press attaché and go to Russia with Lex so she can keep an eye on him. Clark then says he has a better idea and the proceeds to communicate with another member of the team, asking for a favour.
Later, Supergirl, who has returned from the 31st century, flies over Lex's plane, impersonating Superman, who is actually boarding the plane, communicates with the Watchtower and says that Luthor bought it, revealing that she was part of Clark's plan to make it look like she was Superman while he was actually on Lex's plane in his civilian attire.
At Watchtower, Diana Prince contacts Tess in search of a prospect with magical powers that will help D.E.O. deal with magickal and mythological threats. Tess says she knows just the person for the job but Diana has to get a hold of her agent first, suggesting Zatanna.
Chloe and Lois arrive in Gotham City and they find Batman and Nightwing, who have been interrogating a criminal known as Zsasz, on a rooftop. Bruce seems to be a little surprised that the two women were able to trace him and then he invites them to the Batcave.
There, the two cousins get impressed by the amazing underground complex that Bruce has assembled. Bruce is investigating the murder of a man dressed as Superman, which clearly looks like a hate crime connotations against the aliens and the recent revelation of Superman about his origin. Batman is using his billion dollar computer to make a face reconstruction of the corpse based on photos from the crime scene, so they can identify the dead man but the results the computer shows leave everyone speechless, the face of the murdered man is none other than Clark Kent or someone who looks like him.
After his battle with the Monitor, Superman communicates with Tess at the Watchtower and tells her that now they have two priorities: to find out where the Monitor is hiding and how was Ray-Lan able to hurt him. Tess then transfers data to Dr. Hamilton at S.T.A.R. Labs, so he can find out how Superman got hurt and she then says that she will easily trace the Monitor thanks to the satellites she is controlling.
Meanwhile in the Batcave, Batman meditates with Chloe trying to solve the murder of the man dressed as Superman and they talk about the crisis that is about to happen. Bruce questions Chloe on how does she know about the crisis and what will happen and Chloe tells him that she has seen it with her own eyes, through the memories of her doppelganger.
Lois and Barbara walk through the streets of the rainy Gotham City, backtracking the final footsteps of the deceased "Clark Kent", whom the decided to call "Dave", as well as they talk about about Barbara's struggle to manage her personal life and the crime fighting on the same time. Barbara then asks Lois how she is so calm since the shocking revelation about the identity of the murder victim, back at the Batcave. Lois says that the victim's DNA was proven to be human so he can't be Clark and besides that she knows that her fiance is safe in Russia. Suddenly they are attacked by a gang of thieves but they both succeed to defeat the thieves and after that they discover an underground tunnel with footsteps coming out of it.
In the morgue, Batman and Commissioner Gordon examine the body of the deceased "Clark". Batman scans the body with a device, finding DNA samples from the killer, which reveal something he says he'd rather not share. He immediately contacts Nightwing, who is with Lois and Chloe at the Batcave, telling them he's "going dark." Without a word, Barbara races out of the cave on a motorcycle and meets Batman at an abandoned park called Amusement Mile, the one that the Joker often used as his refuge. After a brief argument, Batman says he's not the hunter right now, he's the hunted and so is Barbara. Suddenly, someone throws Batman and Nightwing explosive balls, incapacitating Batman momentarily, as well as stepping out of the smoke. When Nightwing turns to face her opponent the man reveals himself as the other Clark's killer. Surprisingly the man appears to be a version of Bruce Wayne, dressed in a mockery of the Batsuit with his face painted with makeup similar to Joker's.
Batman fights with his alternate self from another Earth. The alternate Batman confesses that he killed the Clark of his Earth, who was found dead in Gotham, because Clark discovered his identity and revealed it to the police. Nightwing intervenes but she gets stabbed in the belly by the villain. After Batman makes sure Nightwing, who is heading back to the Batmobile, is okay he arrests the villain.
Later in the Watchtower, Lois, Chloe, Clark and Tess read an article on the Daily Planet, titled "The New Cold War" and written by Cat Grant, presenting Superman as a threat and even stating that the Monitor's ship was actually his. Lois is furious with Cat's article and gets even more angry because of the fact that Franklin Stern didn't publish her story about the murder in Gotham. Clark says that they have bigger problems to worry about as the danger of the "Crisis" hasn't passed yet. Suddenly Bruce appears and says that even though he knew that the man in Gotham wasn't actually Clark he is happy to see him standing on his feet. Bruce also informs them his evil doppelgänger is safely in custody with John Jones. Moreover he says that because of the "Crisis" he has decided to join the team, at least temporarily, so they can face the threat together.
At the team's base on Mars, Martian Manhunter oversees some of their prisoners, with Batman's doppelganger being among them.
Weeks later at Watchtower, Clark is discussing his new powers and the history of the Green Lantern Corps with a projection of Tomar-Re while Lois, Tess, and John Stewart watch. John tells Clark that this isn't how it works, the rings are powered by the willpower of their wearers which is why they chose people like himself, Kyle Rayner and Hal as Corps members. Lois and Tess disbelieve that John Stewart has a stronger will than them or any of the 6 billion people on Earth, with Tess wondering how did someone like Alan Scott get hold of one of their rings, with John admitting he doesn't know what loophole Alan used to get a ring of his own. Clark then questions what gives a Guardian or whoever is left the right to force other sentient beings into service. John retorts that orders are orders and Superman is a soldier now.
Superman and John Stewart try to contain the Manhunters' attack without putting in danger any civilian in Metropolis. Since they can not beat them, as their rings can't make a dent in them, Clark quickly decides to take the fight to a non populated area to avoid causing any casualties, so they fly to the Moon, where Justice League's new Watchtower base is still being built by S.T.A.R. Labs' drones. While fighting with them the two heroes hear the Manhunters saying that the Green Lanterns have violated a treaty, but Stewart says he has no idea what they're talking about. To aid Superman and Green Lantern in their battle, Tess takes under her control the drones and commands them to attack the Manhunters. During the battle, John realizes that the Manhunters are powered by yellow rings and that is why their rings can not work on them so he tells to Clark to fall back. Superman tells to Tess to stand down and then ends the battle with a powerful blast of heat vision destroying the remaining Manhunters. Clark asks John if this is the last of them and he says there's always more.
In Gotham, Batman and Nightwing are doing their best to contain the newly powered inmates of Arkham, who have already been transformed into Yellow Lanterns. Luckily, Superman arrives just in time to offer assistance.
Batman and Nightwing find it difficult to defeat the super-powered inmates. Superman tries to control the situation but his inexperience with his power ring doesn't help at all. Batman then tells him that the ring is not doing either of them any bit of good so Superman manages to break free of his Green Lantern armor and operate in his own suit once more, saying that he is more than just the ring. After this, all the Yellow Lanterns stand still and kneel before him. Superman is impressed and cannot believe that was all he had to do but he soon realizes that isn't the case. Parallax suddenly appears behind him, having John under his control.
Tess and the rest of team in the Watchtower monitor the yellow ring situation in Arkham Asylum.
Meanwhile in an underwater facility of the D.E.O., Director Trevor confirms to Watchtower that there have been incidents related to the yellow rings in Washington, D.C. as well. According to Trevor, the rings focused on the U.S. Congress, with half the Senate and half the White House becoming the new carriers and starting attacking each other. Wonder Woman is already there, trying to control the situation but according to Trevor she will need all the help she can get. Then Trevor informs Green Arrow that new activity was detected by D.E.O.'s mystics in the boom tube Prometheus has been using. Steve asks Oliver if he is ready for the mission and he responds positively so Steve tells Zatanna to teleport him with one of her spells to where Prometheus was spotted.
In Watchtower shortly after Green Arrow vanishes, Tess asks Chloe if she is really okay with Oliver being back out in the field and Chloe says that in a situation like this there is no other place for them to be. Tess and Chloe then contact Emil Hamilton at S.T.A.R. Labs, who informs them that unlike the green rings, the yellow rings actually control the people wielding them. Emil takes that notion a step further and determines that the ring may also share a single communication frequency and if they could isolate the communication channel, as they did with Superman's ring, maybe they could interfere.
In Gotham, Nightwing fights some thugs, who have taken advantage of the chaos caused by the Yellow Lanterns, and attempt to rob a woman and her child. Meanwhile, Batman receives a call from the ladies in the Watchtower, who ask him to secure a single yellow ring for them so Batman, who is in battle with Firefly, says he will see what he can do for them. Superman tries to convince John Stewart, who is possessed by Parallax, that it's okay to experience fear, that it's not an emotion anyone should repress or ignore. Superman's words about a soldier having the right to ask questions seem to have an impact on John, but surprisingly Stewart responds by impaling Superman with a sword constructed by his yellow ring.
Batman fights with Firefly and during the battle Batman tricks him into colliding to a building. There Batman finds the chance and takes the yellow ring, which tempts him to become his new bearer, from Firefly and then puts it on his analyzer on the Batplane and sends the data to Watchtower and S.T.A.R. Labs, who verify that they can't turn the rings off but they can reboot them. Unfortunately, that would reboot both green and yellow rings in the area.
Watchtower informs Superman, who is pierced by a sword constructed of yellow energy, about their plan, while Parallax leaves John's body intending to take over Superman's but he tells to his teammates to reset the rings. When they do the sword on Superman's chest disappears, he gets his strength back and all the Yellow Lanterns, including John, are released from the influence of fear and lose their powers with the rings turning black. Superman tells John, now he is free from Parallax, to get back up because they aren't done fighting yet.
After their rings get rebooted and they lose their powers, the inmates of Arkham fall from the sky unable to do anything to escape from their eventual death but fortunately Superman manages to save them all. Meanwhile, the also depowered John Stewart distracts Parallax, who insists earth has enough fear to feed him forever. Stewart lures the cosmic entity into a junkyard and smashes the left side of its head with a wrecking ball. Parallax is about to counterattack but the real help comes when the other Green Lanterns arrive on the scene with the entity of willpower. The two entities begin to battle and with an assist from Superman, they banish Parallax to its realm, which was his greatest fear.
Later, Clark is reunited with Lois, who asks his help to cover the latest breaking story: Green Arrow's return to crime-fighting.
Professor Emil Hamilton and his cohorts from S.T.A.R. Labs work with Tess at Watchtower. The scientists try study the synthesized gem serum while Tess and the others try to locate the original person under the sway of Eclipso, Bryce Gordon. Superboy, Supergirl, and Hank Henshaw volunteer to find him, and luckily enough, Tess has a lock on his position and sends them where Bryce is.
In Metropolis, Superboy and Supergirl take down the possessed Bryce Gordon atop a building while a news chopper covers the action and the reporter inside is apparently arguing with her producer over whether or not to comment on Supergirl's outfit. The chopper is caught in the crossfire, and Supergirl rescues the reporter and the pilot. She also makes a point to thank the reporter for her "solidarity" on the outfit issue. At street level, Hank Henshaw battles another swarm of Eclipsos. The possessed civilians say that even though Hank wears the false god's symbol, he is not like him. They also tell him they can not understand what exactly he is and Hank says neither does he. Hank then utilizes probing cables that are part of his body to probe the minds of the Eclipsos and get a better idea of what they're dealing with. He learns that Eclipso has existed for many generations, many times as a deity both worshipped and feared by ancient cultures. Henshaw suggests that Superboy and Supergirl offer themselves to Eclipso, which will likely draw the entity out of all the normal humans in order to manifest itself in super-powered beings. While it attempts to do that, they believe they can stop it. Supergirl then goads Eclipso, and he takes the bait, so he leaves the bodies of the civilians and makes Bryce Gordon throw up the diamond. Then all the power is centered in the diamond, which creates a huge Eclipso monster. The Eclipso monster says he is fascinated by the idea of having Superboy and Supergirl as his own Adam and Eve.
Supergirl, Superboy, and Hank Henshaw continue battling Eclipso, who has now been transformed into a big humanoid made by the Eclipso gem, after emerging from his numerous hosts throughout Metropolis. Supergirl and Superboy discover that their respective abilities aren't stopping Eclipso, and they look to Henshaw for suggestions. Henshaw says sound vibrations might just force Eclipso to condense himself even further into a single diamond, and Supergirl grabs two giant church bells and bangs them together. When she sees that it works, she tosses another bell to Superboy, who follows the same strategy. Eclipso reverts to a single diamond that Henshaw and Supergirl catch in mid-air. Then Henshaw says there's only one way to make sure the diamond never falls into human hands again.
Henshaw checks in on his wife and stays in the shadows, relaying to Tess that he just wanted to be sure Terri would be okay before he left. He has decided to leave Earth with the Eclipso diamond to protect the people from its influence, and hopes his actions will in some way make up for how things initially turned out between him and Superman. In space, Hank with the help of the Green Lantern, John Stewart, soars into an unknown destination.
Superman and Lois finally arrive at Watchtower where Tess Mercer, Chloe and Oliver along with Batman, Nightwing Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Jay Garrick and his team of teenagers. Clark tells Chloe, Tess and Bruce to find out everything from one of the Manhunters he destroyed about the Crisis, because more ships are on their way. As Batman starts to examine the crumpled Manhunter head he wonders where are they going, Clark grimly says everywhere.
Soon Clark gathers all of the heroes onto his rooftop and gives them the lowdown. They can distract the Manhunters with physical attacks while Watchtower leads an evacuation to the heartland. If the distraction they provide fails everyone will die or be 'rebooted', but if they win everything will stay as it was and how they all remember the world. Clark tells them to say goodbye to their loved ones and suit up ready for war.
Superman delivers a rousing speech to the heroes. The other Earths might have been erased or rebooted but they are determined for their Earth to survive and their continuity to continue. With that Superman, Luthor and all of Earth's heroes attack the incoming Manhunters.
The plan goes into overdrive and the attack is immediately full on. They may be on a zero fatality mission but the Manhunters are not and Superman makes it clear if they are hit, they die. All the heroes are fighting valiantly and at the end they win the battle.
The League stands in the Fortress standing judgment over the female Monitor. The universe is now back to normal though all that died is still dead. The female Monitor asks to die but J'onn points out that Clark would never kill anyone. The League then decides to send the Monitor to the Phantom Zone.
Three weeks later LexCorp holds a major press confrence and Lex introduces the public to a new monument built on the former Watchtower site. In a massive turnout Lex publicly admits that if it weren't for the heroes of earth the universe would be lost. Then Superman makes a speech that is broadcast all over the planet. As the tarp falls away it reveals a stunning bronze statue of the Justice League.
Red Tornado heads to S.T.A.R. Labs and proceeds to remotely upload and download herself as she transports to the Watchtower Outpost on the moon and tells the members of the "Justice League" that Watchtower is officially back online.
In the Comics[]
The original idea of the team came from when Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash (Barry Allen), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Aquaman and Martian Manhunter had met up together to stop the Applexians. After seeing that their powers together could make them more powerful, they came together as the Justice League of America, which they announced in a press conference.
In their second or third year, Green Arrow and Black Canary joined. Around this time, Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West) and Aqualad (Garth) had started the Teen Titans after their mentors Batman, Flash and Aquaman went full-time with the JLA. When Wonder Woman joined the JLA, her sidekick, Wonder Girl (Donna Troy), joined the Titans.
The Green Arrow originally had to be convinced to join such a team, as he believed that fighting with a group of that sort would be "soulless," sacrificing the "little guy" in the process. Little did the members of the JLA know, however, that Oliver was secretly funding the organization before Batman decided to use his resources to fund the team. After he did join the team, his sidekick, Speedy (Roy Harper), joined the Teen Titans. Years later many former sidekicks such as Dick Grayson as the new Batman and Roy Harper as Red Arrow have joined the league.
In need of a new secure headquarters, the Justice League moved into an orbiting satellite headquarters. Many other heroes joined the team such as Firestorm, Red Tornado, Elongated Man, Zatanna, Vixen, Black Lighting, Captain Marvel, Atom, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Plastic Man, Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Many other Green Lanterns besides Hal Jordan and many other Flashes besides Barry Allen have also been featured as members. There was also for some time another version of the team called Justice League International but was later dispatched.
After most of the original heroes fail to help fend off an invasion of Martians, Aquaman dissolves the League and rewrites its charter to allow only heroes who will devote their full-time to the roster. The new team initially consists of Aquaman, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, Elongated Man, the Vixen, as well as a trio of teenage heroes Gypsy, Steel and Vibe. Aquaman leaves the team after a year due to marital problems and his role as leader is assumed by the Martian Manhunter. The team is disbanded when Vibe and Steel are murdered by long-time League nemesis Professor Ivo and Vixen, Gypsy and the Elongated Man resign.
There was also a Justice League Europe, which was consisted of Captain Atom, who was the field commander, Elongated Man, Power Girl, Flash (Wally West), Rocket Red, Animal Man and Metamorpho as the main roster along with supporting members Catherine Cobert and Sue Dibny as the bureau chief and information manager, later bureau chief, respectively. They were later joined by Crimson Fox, Blue Jay and Silver Sorceress. The team was originally headquartered in Paris, France but later moved to an abandoned castle in Great Britain. In Justice League: Breakdowns, the Silver Sorceress dies, defeating the villain known as Dreamslayer and the U.N. withdraws its support from the Justice League and it disbands. The Martian Manhunter also seemingly takes a leave of absence. In the aftermath of this story the team re-organizes and moves to London with several characters leaving or being replaced. The new roster, led by Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), consisted of once again Flash, Power Girl, Crimson Fox and Elongated Man with also Sue Dibny as a supporting member and newcomers Aquaman and Dr. Light.
The release of Justice League Spectacular launched the revised Justice League titles, which were expanded to four (June 1993): Justice League America (formerly Justice League International vol 1), Justice League Europe (retitled as Justice League International vol 2), Justice League Quarterly, as well as Justice League Task Force. In late 1994 Justice League International and Justice League Quarterly were cancelled and replaced by a new monthly title in January 1995, Extreme Justice. In the summer of 1996, with sales fading, all three remaining monthly series were cancelled and replaced by JLA.
In JLA #100, Justice League Elite was formed to attempt black ops that would not be acceptable for the JLA to "sully their hands" with. The roster was consisted of most of the second incarnation of The Elite, members of the JLA like Green Arrow, Flash (Wally West), an undercover Cassandra Cain disguised as Kasumi, Manitou Raven and his wife Dawn and some spies/assassins. They operated out of Somerset, New Jersey.
During Infinite Crisis, Green Arrow struggled in vain to keep the League afloat.
One year after the events of Infinite Crisis, Superman, Batman, as well as Wonder Woman reunite in the Batcave to re-form the League. The roster included Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance), Red Arrow, Red Tornado, Vixen, Black Lightning, as well as Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders). The new incarnation of the team has two main headquarters, linked by a transporter with the first site being The Hall, which is located in Washington, D.C.. Black Canary is elected as the first official Chairperson and later Hal Jordan was replaced by John Stewart, Firestorm joined in and Red Tornado and Geo-Force left. The group suffered greater losses during Final Crisis with the deaths of Martian Manhunter and Batman, as well as the resignations of Superman and Wonder Woman, who could no longer devote themselves full-time to the League. Hal Jordan would resign once again as well, clearing the way for John Stewart's return to the team. Black Canary found herself declaring the League no more, though the group would continue with Canary taking a secondary role. Vixen would take over the team, with Plastic Man joining the group.
Pre-Flashpoint the last incarnation of the League included Donna Troy, Batman (Dick Grayson), Cyborg, Supergirl, Mon-El, Green Arrow, Atom, Jade, Doctor Light, Starman (Mikaal Tomas), Starfire, the Guardian, Jesse Quick and Congorilla. A new generation of the Justice League International also started again alongside this one led by Batman and Booster Gold.
In the New 52 the Justice League is one of the teams slated to be revamped by DC Comics. In this new reality there are more than one League each one of them being very different from the others.
Post-Flashpoint the original Justice League is formed by all the original members, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash (Barry Allen), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), minus Martian Manhunter, who is replaced by Cyborg.
In Batman and Hal Jordan's first meeting, the two encountered each other during a battle against a Parademon in Gotham City. After realizing the creature is extraterrestrial in origin, the two heroes head to Metropolis to seek out Superman only to be attacked by him. Later, after a brief fight in which the Flash arrives and Batman convinces Superman they are on the same side, they move to an abandoned building to work on analysing a mysterious alien box, when it suddenly activates and more Parademons arrive. While fighting the Parademons, Aquaman and Wonder Woman appear and join forces with the other heroes. The mysterious box leads to Darkseid's arrival on Earth and the heroes come together, along with the newcomer Cyborg, to defeat him. The public becomes enamored with the heroes and a writer dubs the group the 'Justice League', following the Flash's suggestion of 'Super Seven'.
At some point Green Lantern leaves the team. Later a new female Atom (Rhonda Pineda), Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond - Jason Rusch) and Element Woman join as additional members. Shazam often appears besides the league but he hasn't officially joined in.
In the aftermath of Forever Evil, Lex Luthor is now considered a hero by the public but the League are still in search of him and many other criminals to be tried for their crimes and particularly for their involvement in the Secret Society of Super Villains. Suddenly the League gets an invitation to a satellite orbiting Earth sent by Luthor. When they arrive there Luthor welcomes them to the new Watchtower and tells them that he deserves to join them as he is now also considered one of the superheroes. Along with Luthor, Shazam is also there brought by him under the impression that he will also join the League. Lex says that after the events with Syndicate the public has lost faith in them so a man like Lex, whom the public really supports right now will get the League back in good standing. The heroes do not trust him so Lex proposes to question him with the lasso of truth. Under the influence of the lasso Lex reveals that he wants to join the League because he is an egomaniac and he wants to be admired as a hero. Superman still disbelieves him so Lex agrees to leave but not before he gives to Cyborg the codes to the new Watchtower so they can use it as their headquarters. Later, Lex visits the Wayne Manor and asks Alfred to notify Batman that Lex Luthor has come to see him.
The Justice League International is formed by United Nations director Andre Briggs as a UN-controlled counterpart to the original Justice League and is based out of the Hall of Justice. The founding lineup of the team consists of Booster Gold, Guy Gardner, Fire, Ice, August-General in Iron, Rocket Red, Vixen and Godiva. The heroes are recruited to the team due to having their identities publicly known. Batman is denied membership due to having a secret identity, but is allowed to accompany the group as part of an effort to foster good relations between the JLI and the original Justice League. During a press conference outside the Hall of Justice, Rocket Red is killed when a bomb explodes, while Fire, Ice and Vixen are hospitalised and become comatose. This leads Booster Gold to recruit Batwing, OMAC and Firehawk to the team.
Later the Justice League International was dispatched due to the cancellation of the title.
Justice League Dark is a team of supernatural heroes, brought together by Madame Xanadu and led by sorcerer John Constantine. With the Enchantress gone mad, after being separated from her human host, June Moon, magic started wreaking havoc on the world. Madame Xanadu would attempt to bring together a group of magic using, yet personally damaged heroes, to combat Enchantress' magic. The roster also includes Zatanna, Deadman, Shade and Mindwarp. Shortly after his introduction Mindwrap leaves the team.
Shade would later leave the team, after losing control of the M-Vest, with new members Black Orchid, Andrew Bennett and Doctor Mist joining after his departure. Tim Hunter decides to become a member of JLD and later Amethyst, who is summoned to Earth in an effort to reconnect Tim Hunter with magic. Doctor Mist left the team after it was revealed he was working for Felix Faust. Frankenstein chooses to join the team, out of a sense of responsibility towards Zatanna and Tim Hunter. Timothy Hunter gave up his magic to save his father, but it was brought back when he shook Amethyst's hand. He decides to stays in the alternate dimension as a wizard-king with his father and after this Amethyst returns to her world too, Nilaa. Later Andrew Bennett and then Zatanna, who has also been a love interest for Constantine, leave the team. Swamp Thing often appears besides the league but he hasn't officially joined it.
During the events of Forever Evil, where all the Leaguers from the three teams were vanished because of the Crime Syndicate, John Constantine, the only one who did not disappeared, is joined by the Swamp Thing and the Nightmare Nurse to search for their missing teammates and fight against a new threat known as Blight. Constantine soon found one of his teammates, Deadman after he was lost, bound to the Syndicate's, now dead, Sea King (alternate version of Aquaman from Earth 3). Pandora also later joined the fight against Blight.
In the aftermath of Forever Evil, Zatanna will rejoin the League and there will be a new leader, who will deal with a traitor in their midst.
Justice League of America was formed by the likes of Amanda Waller and ARGUS to create a more obedient league that would answer the calls of the government and its people to protect and serve America. Each member of the team is intended to be a counterpart to the members of the original league, in case the Justice League would ever go rogue. Steve Trevor is the team's leader with the rest of the members being Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Catwoman, the newest Green Lantern (Simon Baz), Stargirl, Katana and Vibe.
Rhonda Pineda, is later revealed to be a member of the Justice League of America. She works as a spy to gain intel on the Justice League, reporting to Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor. Her placement is unknown to the members of either team.
In the aftermath of Forever Evil, A.R.G.U.S. and the JLA has taken all the heat for everything that happened, the villains taking over and the grid going down so the government has dissolved the team. Catwoman broke into a lab with a super computer that had the power to scrub her personal info clean out of the A.R.G.U.S. database and replace it with misinformation so they won't be able to find her unless she wants them to. Green Arrow has being trying to get the team back without the government's approval but Green Lantern declines Arrow's offer because he wants to search for the person who will become the new Power Ring. Katanna also declines Arrow's offer as she has aligns herself with the Outsiders, a secret society composed by various clans built around a totem weapon. Even though Hawkman has been missing Green Arrow has a lead on something so he is willing to look for him if he gets some help. Vibe and Element Woman are missing too. Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor are not able to do anything about the team but Waller asked Stargirl to debrief Trevor to get all the background she could so she somehow can put a new team together because according to her they need them. Trevor advises Courtney to recruit new members and relocate somewhere outside the U.S., as the government will be an obstacle to them. Manhunter after been informed by Waller finds Stargirl and decides to help her put a new team together. The Justice League of America series will be replaced by a new title called Justice League United. The team will be renamed to Justice League Canada, being relocated to Toronto. Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Green Arrow and Stargirl will be the only ones of the original roster that will remain on the team with new members including Supergirl, Animal Man, Adam Strange and his wife Alanna, whose both nationality will be changed to Canadian and Equinox, a 16-year-old Cree teen from Moose Factory with the civilian name Miiyahbin, whose power stems from the Earth and changes with the seasons.
In the pages of the new title Justice League 3000, a futuristic version of the Justice League is featured. In the 31st century, Cadmus scientist Teri and her twin brother Terry (The Wonder Twins), oversee the Justice League project. The greatest past heroes and original five core members of the League, Superman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Batman, Wonder Woman and The Flash (Barry Allen) were recreated from cell samples of the originals kept for 1000 years. Using advanced bio-engineering, the duo brought back the five great legends, but with only fragments of their memories, experiences, as well as heroic mentalities. Because of that the cloned heroes' powers and personalities were affected, making them very different from the originals. Superman can't fly and he doesn't have the memories of his childhood with the Kents making him a very arrogant person, Green Lantern doesn't have a ring and he is the sole remaining member of the Green Lantern Corps, which is now considered the most despised organization in the universe, Flash is a humorless wimp and Batman who has a big rivalry with Superman.
The team later encounters a villainess named Locus, with a seemingly deity-like control over reality and a clear connection to "The Five", the group that Cadmus tries to fight against with. Locus easily defeats the heroes and after seemingly killing the Flash, she teleports Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in a prison planet and abducts Green Lantern. At the prison planet, the trio meets their original creator, Ariel Masters, a scientist who previously worked at Cadmus and was a mentor to the Wonder Twins. She reveals that she abandoned the project, believing that she deleted all her research and work, because she felt that what they were doing was unmoral but the twins achieved to save and re-download her research proceeding with the project without her. Ariel then tells to the Leaguers the truth behind the real nature, they are not clones of the original heroes but human hosts with the heroes DNA grafted onto them overwriting and replacing their own genetic codes with those of the Justice League. At Cadmus Labs, the twins revive the Flash once again and prepare him to go and save the rest of the team but they won't send him alone, they say he will need one of his own, presenting to him another Leaguer, Firestorm.
During the Trinity War, a major crossover event in the New 52 surrounding the Trinity of Sin, Pandora, Phantom Stranger and Question, the three leagues came into a conflict. The leader of the Secret Society of Super-Villains, Outsider, plotted against the three leagues manipulating the events that brought the three teams against each other. After the revelation of Pandora's box and the apparent murder of Dr. Light by the hand of Superman, all the leagues decided to search for the box with each one having a different opinion on how to handle the situation. In the final part of the story it is revealed that Atom was actually Outsider's mole inside both leagues and that she planted a sliver of kryptonite pressing on an area in Superman's brain. It has been pressing on his brain ever since, causing him to lose control of his powers, resulting into Arthur Light's murder. On a word of command, she brings Cyborg's prosthetics under the command of an intelligent computer virus called Grid and they separate from his human body. The Outsider steps from the shadows and picks up the box. He explains that the Box is the product of science from his world and that since his soul is pure evil, he can open the doorway. As the box is consumed by the doorway to his master, Madame Xanadu, who was kidnapped by the Society, explains the truth. "Trinity" was never about the three Leagues or the Trinity of Sin, or even Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. It was about the world that is the stronghold of evil. It was about Earth 3.
The Crime Syndicate, the wicked rulers of Earth 3, emerge from the doorway, though Sea King (alternate version of Aquaman) dies in the crossing. Owlman (alternate version of Batman), commends the Outsider (alternate version of Alfred Pennyworth) for his service. Rhonda reveals she was also from Earth 3 and member of the Syndicate, going by the name Atomica. As Superwoman (alternate version of Wonder Woman) drags a hooded prisoner through from their world, the rest of the team jumps the heroes, who are worrying over Superman, as well as shout that this world is theirs now. The Syndicate roundly defeats the assembled Leagues, triggering the Forever Evil crossover event.
At the destroyed Watchtower, the Crime Syndicate present Aquaman's trident, Wonder Woman's lasso and Superman's cape as proof that the Justice League is dead. Col. Steve Trevor awakes at the remains of the A.R.G.U.S. headquarters in Washington, D.C. He remembers being with the Justice Leagues and seeing the Crime Syndicate appear through the portal, only for Madame Xanadu to instruct Zatanna to send him away, as the world depends on him. After seeing the Crime Syndicate's broadcast, Trevor learns that the president is in danger, who has a back up key that would assist in A.R.G.U.S. gaining their assets back. Trevor asks the president for his A.R.G.U.S. key, giving him access to every A.R.G.U.S. facility. Trevor then heads to the Wonder Room, which he has filled with mementos of his past relationship with Wonder Woman. There, he find the Delphi mirror and the fates that reside within it. He approaches them and offers to strike a deal with them so he can locate the missing Justice League members. Elsewhere, at S.T.A.R. Labs, Dr. Silas Stone and Dr. Thomas Morrow remain in the Red Room to protect all of its technology and research. Batman and Catwoman appear, with the critically injured Cyborg. When Dr. Morrow ask Batman where the rest of the Justice League is, Batman merely states that "they didn't make it." Batman goes on to explain that, after the Crime Syndicate arrived, Deathstorm (alternate version of Firestorm from Earth 3) attacked Firestorm, exposing the matrix that binds Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch, causing everyone except Batman, Catwoman and Cyborg to be trapped within the matrix. After Dr. Stone and Dr. Morrow stabilize Cyborg, Batman brings Catwoman to the Batcave, where he shows her his contingency boxes for each member of the Justice League, hoping each will work on their Earth 3 counterparts. Meanwhile at S.T.A.R. Labs, Dr. Stone is able to stabilize Victor, who begins to wake up. Later at Wayne Enterprises, Power Ring (alternate version Green Lantern/Hal Jordan from Earth 3) arrives and begins attacking Batman and Catwoman. Batman decides to use his contingency for Green Lantern and puts on a Sinestro Corps ring. Power Ring's constructs are able to remove the ring from Batman and destroys the ring, only to be knocked back by Sinestro's arrival. Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Cyborg gets rebooted into his 3.0 version with a cybernetic parts. He then goes in search of Dr. Magnus to seek his help and use Magnus' Metal Men against the Syndicate. Cyborg tries to convince Dr. Magnus to reactivate the Metal Men, whose essence survived a battle with Chemo, the prototype Metal Man which was tossed in a toxic soup, but their bodies did not. In Gotham, Sinestro easily defeats Power Ring and after cutting his hand he kills him, with his ring going in search for a new host. After that, Lex Luthor's Injusice League and the Secret Society are merged to take back Earth from the Crime Syndicate. Batman and Catwoman meet Luthor and his expanded team and decide to make a deal for Earth's sake, so they join Luthor's League and Batman insists that he will be the leader but Luthor makes clear that the villains have now the upper hand. Batman bargains with Luthor on how they will attack their opponents and Batman says that Nightwing, who was captured by the Syndicate, is one of the priorities. The Injustice League enters Watchtower and Batman, Catwoman, Lex Luthor and Bizarro search for Nightwing, finally finding him trapped in an Apokoliptan machine, called the Murder Machine, which is connected with a bomb that will detonate if his heart continues to pound. Luthor not wanting the bomb to detonate says there is no other way and shoots Batman and Catwoman attempts to stop him from doing anything to Grayson but Bizarro prevents her so Luthor seemingly kills Nightwing, causing the wrath of Batman who attacks him and furiously starts punching him. At the same time the rest of the members explore the rest of the facility and they encounter Outsider, who is killed by Black Manta. Johnny Quick and Atomica arrive and they battle with the villains and after they take down Atomica Captain Cold freezes and then brakes one of Johnny's legs. Then they free the Syndicate's hooded prisoner but Atomica shouts to them to put back the tape on his mouth. The prisoner shouts "MAZAHS" and a huge lightning strikes him. Ultraman and the other Syndicate members outside of the Watchtower, seeing the lightning realize that the worst enemy has been freed. The prisoner reveals his name is Alexander Luthor (alternate version of Lex Luthor and Shazam from Earth-3) and then kills the already injured Johnny Quick, saying that like he did with many other Syndicate members in the past he will kill every single one of them and will take their powers. Cyborg aligns himself with a newly reanimated Metal Men set to go after The Grid, a malevolent artificial intelligence that lived inside his original body and detached himself from Cyborg in order to aid the Crime Syndicate. The Grid is handling communications for the Crime Syndicate and their Secret Society of Super-Villains lackeys but he senses that Cyborg is near and leaves Ultraman to mutter in anger on The Grid’s abandoned view screen. Cyborg and the Metal Men do battle with The Grid in the “real world” while Cyborg also does battle with The Grid from within. Cyborg is sucked into the mind of The Grid, fighting for his soul, and succeeds into defeating Grid and making him go offline. Then Steve Trevor of A.R.G.U.S. joins forces with Cyborg to assist the Justice League.
During Forever Evil: Blight, Constantine awakes in the House of Mystery, unsure how he got there. He slowly begins to remember gaining control of Pandora's Box and then the Crime Syndicate defeating the three Justice Leagues. He attempts to conjure an enchantment to find Zatanna and the other members of the Justice League Dark but it does not work. He then sees a conjured Zatanna from his conscious, who reveals that Pandora's Box is still having an adverse effect on him. The conjuring is revealed to be Nightmare Nurse, who sought out Constantine to remove the remnants of the Box from him. They are joined by Swamp Thing, who agrees to help, as the Green has been agitated by the Crime Syndicates arrival and the three try to track the missing members of the Justice League. John determines that the Trinity of Sin are the ones who will be able to help them and summons them to the Rock of Eternity. The Trinity of Sin are able to get out of their chains. The Question does not decide to help and vanishes, while Pandora agrees to help. Constantine coaxes Phantom Stranger to join by offering him one of his pieces of silver. Phantom Stranger declines and tries to leave the House. He wanders through it and after seeing various moments of his past, returns to the others and tells Constantine he will help their cause. Elsewhere, Chris Esperanza, the Phantom Stranger's friend he brought back from the dead, overcome by his emotional turmoil of being resurrected, awakens Blight inside of him, allowing his body to become the vessel for Blight. Now in his vessel, Blight summons Constantine, Swamp Thing, Nightmare Nurse, Phantom Stranger and Pandora to his location in New York City. Pandora begins shooting at Blight, only for Blight to start killing each member, killing Pandora last. As she dies, she is approached by Nightmare Nurse in her subconscious, letting her know this is the result of the Dun-Kon-Wen and they have a plan so they all remain sane. It is shown that the group's bodies have ended up in Doctor Thirteen's apartment. While floating in the subconscious, Constantine sees Deadman, who tells him he is the only hope the former Justice League Dark members have to survive. Nightmare Nurse is able to revive everyone with her psyche, when Constantine informs them of his visit from Deadman. They determine that it actually was him, not a delusion, and Constantine, Nightmare Nurse, Swamp Thing and Pandora set out to find him. They travel to the bottom of the ocean, where they arrive at Nan Madol, a deserted undersea kingdom finding the Sea King. Pandora informs Constantine that they have to stop him, as the Sea King is housing Deadman's spirit. On the surface, the group is able to stop Sea King's attack and break the connection Sea King's body had on Deadman. Deadman wakes up and informs the group he jumped into Sea King's body during the Crime Syndicate's arrival and that it twisted his mind so he did not know how he was. Constantine removes the last traces of Sea King's consciousness and locks Deadman in the body to have a weapon to use against the Crime Syndicate. At the border of Heaven, the group is confronted by the Spectre and Zauriel. Later the group once again encounters Blight. With Blight gone, so is the psychic static that originally prevented Constantine from finding Zatanna and the others, and he is able to locate them. Back at the House of Mystery, Nightmare Nurse is tending to Constantine, who is suffering from adverse side effects from the Blackmare Curse. In order to find the location of the Justice Leagues, Phantom Stranger attempts to accelerate Constantine's recovery by taking himself and Nightmare Nurse into one of Constantine's memories. There, the Phantom Stranger forces Constantine to use the light in himself to fight off his personal demons, which cures him. Constantine combines his magic with Pandora's and they are able to locate the Justice League members in Nanda Parbat. Once there, Deadman in Sea King's body is able to gain entrance to the temples, where the group realizes that Felix Faust and Nick Necro are behind the operation. Under a concealment spell, the group follows Deadman further into the temple to try and rescue the Justice Leagues. Constantine and Nightmare Nurse travel further through the temple, where they eventually come across the other mystics being held for the project Necro and Faust has been working on. They see Black Orchid, Cassandra Craft, Shade, the Changing Man, Enchantress, Blackbriar Thorn, Blue Devil, Papa Midnite, Sargon and Zatanna being held for the use in the Crime Syndicate's weapons program to use against the entity that destroyed their world. Constantine realizes that Nightmare Nurse is not herself, actually Necro in disguise. The two fight and Constantine is able to stop Necro in order to try and free Zatanna. Before he is able to, his is captured by Faust. Pandora and the others arrive and proceed to free Nightmare Nurse and the others in captivity. Nightmare Nurse heals Deadman, while Constantine finds Zatanna.
Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter and Stargirl awake in the outer part of the Firestorm matrix, where they encounter someone who appears to be Jason Rusch, half of the duo that is Firestorm. Jason proceeds to informs them that he believes they are in a prison constructed by the Crime Syndicate, as well as offers to bring Martian Manhunter through the inner parts. There, Martian Manhunter realizes that the "prison" seems to react to each of its inmates, creating a different experience for each. After losing Jason and realizing he is being pursued by an unknown person, J'onn is contacted by Stargirl, who stayed behind. She tells him she found a way out and steps into the Crime Syndicate-led world. Losing connection to Martian Manhunter, Stargirl goes after him through the matrix. She passes through the previous prisons Jonn did, but sees glimpses of her past in each. She eventually finds him battling a version of himself crafted by the matrix. It is stated that the prison has no effect on Stargirl due to her youth. As such, she is able to escape the prison and takes Jonn with her. Once out of the prison, Stargirl comes across members of the Secret Society. Stargirl realizes that by escaping the prison, Manhunter's conscious has merged with her. While she is fighting the Society members, she also is fighting Manhunter from entering her mind and memories. Manhunter is able to control Stargirl temporarily to fight off the Society and Stargirl is able to focus long enough to escape. Finding a quiet spot, Manhunter attempts to locate the prison, only to trigger a memory of Stargirl's that makes her realize she needs to go help her family. Stargirl, wanting Manhunter out of her mind, is able to separate herself from him and heads off to find her family. Manhunter, realizing the prison has weakened his abilities, is able to locate it and realize that the prison is Firestorm himself and Firestorm is counting down. It is later revealed that Despero is the one who creates the illusions inside the matrix prison and when Stargirl and Martian Manhunter get loose he goes after them. Despero goes and kills Stargirl's brother and then fights with both heroes, taking out Stargirl and killing Martian Manhunter. Stargirl survives and then succeeds in finding Firestorm, stopping the countdown of Firestorm, which was caused unknowingly by Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond. After that all the Leaguers are seemingly freed but then Stargirl wakes up back in the prison. J'onn who is apparently alive reveals that Despero creates his illusions from the outside and besides the fact that everything she encountered before were not real, she did broke out of her "prison". He also says that while Courtney was unconscious he could communicated with Steve Trevor who told him that he thinks he can free them by using Wonder Woman's lasso but they first need to find her.
Inside the fallen Watchtower, Batman is ready to kill Lex Luthor for murdering Nightwing, with Catwoman trying to calm him down, but Lex reveals that he did not actually killed Dick, he forced him to swallow a cardioplegia pill, a drug that paralyzes the cardiac muscles surrounding the heart. After Batman gets to his senses Lex gives a shot of adrenaline to Dick's heart, bringing him back and then they take him out of the Murder Machine. Suddenly, Cyborg arrives and tells them that they have to release the Leaguers from Firestorm's Matrix before he explodes, so he along with Batman, Catwoman and Nightwing head to the room Firestorm is held in while Lex and the rest of the Injustice League will take on the Crime Syndicate. Cyborg says that according to Martian Manhunter Firestorm's physic bond could be broken by someone with a strong emotional tie to Wonder Woman by using her lasso of truth. Of course with Steve Trevor, who is still in love with Wonder Woman meaning that he can connect with her, unconscious in another place, Catwoman wonders how are they going to release the heroes. J'onn communicates telepathically with Batman and tells him that he knows as well as Batman knows why he can do it himself so Batman tells Cyborg to give him the lasso so he can connect with Diana. Batman says that he and Wonder Woman know eachother for a long time but Catwoman questions him whether this is actually the reason. Suddenly Owlman appears and Nightwing attacks him thinking that he is there to stop them but Owlman reveals that he didn't came for the Syndicate, the truth is he wants them to win. After revealing to them a secret, he says that his world, his Gotham, his Alfred, all of them are gone and Dick is all he has left so he won't give up on Dick and him being a team again. Batman then proceeds to connect with Wonder Woman through her lasso and they release all the missing heroes from the Matrix, preventing Firestorm from detonating. When the heroes return, Superman is still dying from the silver of kryptonite Atomica put in his head so Lex Luthor offers his help.
Later when Superman wakes up he asks what happened and Luthor tells him that he just saved his life. After that all the criminals, including Luthor, who helped into defeat the Crime Syndicate and saved the world had their records wiped clean, even though most of them returned to their old ways a few days later. Meanwhile Batman says to Catwoman that she has an opportunity to turn her life around and start over because as Batman says she is not a criminal like the others, given what she helped him do. Catwoman feels disappointed by the fact that after what they got through together the only thing he wants to say to her is just "be a good girl" but Batman, even though he is sorry, says that he can't tell her anything else so Catwoman leaves. Later, Batman sends Dick Grayson in a new mission saying that he has to take advantage of the fact that his true identity has being exposed to the world and also this is the most dangerous thing he has ever asked him to do. Meanwhile Flash and Cyborg try to find any trace of DNA in the destroyed Watchtower because of all the Leaguers that were trapped inside the Matrix two did not came back and are still missing, Element Woman and Vibe. Flash wonders if the Syndicate may know something about it but Cyborg says that after the fight with Luthor's team only three of them survived, Ultraman and Superwoman who are in custody and Owlman who is missing. Moreover in the facility Superwoman is held in, Wonder Woman tries to interrogate her but she refuses to answer any of her questions and also tells Diana that her lasso won't work on her. In LexCorp, after a long search Lex has figured out that Bruce Wayne is Batman. In the Batcave, Superman tells to his fellow Leaguers that he believes the being that destroyed Earth 3 is the monster that brought them together in the first place, Darkseid.
Differences from the comic book Justice League[]
Due to character rights issues, Batman and Wonder Woman did not appear in Smallville's Justice League, however as of Season 10, it was confirmed that Batman and Wonder Woman do indeed exist in Smallville continuity, but would not be seen on screen, until Batman made his debut appearance in the Season 11 episode Detective and Wonder Woman in Olympus. For that reason, the team originally could not feature Batman and Wonder Woman as their founding members and that is why Green Arrow, who was a major Justice League member in the Silver Age as well as funding the team in post-Crisis, but never a founding member, was used instead of Batman, with him being the first leader of the team. Black Canary, who was a founding member of the Justice League post-Crisis and pre-Infinite Crisis, replaced Wonder Woman as the first active female member of the team. Also, in the comics two different Flashes, Barry Allen and his nephew Wally West served as members of the Justice League and the original Flash, Jay Garrick, as a member of the Justice Society. However, in Smallville also due to characters rights issues, Bart Allen was used as a founding member of the team instead. In the comics, Bart who originally appeared as Impulse, was a member of the superhero team Young Justice and later the Teen Titans under the mantle of Kid Flash but as the Flash, Bart was not a member of any teams. Despite continuity and arguments by fans, Bart Allen would not be referred to as "Barry Allen" or The Flash on the show, instead being referred to by his original code name of Impulse (though he has been referred to as "Flash" at least twice, though this was most likely an error by the writers). Cyborg, who in the comics has been a long time member of the Teen Titans, was included as a founding member of the team (in Smallville, Victor is in Clark's age). It was the first incarnation of the character that was featured as part of the League as in the comics he didn't joined the team until the New 52, where he became a founding member, replacing Martian Manhunter. Martian Manhunter, an original member of the team in the comics, was not initially considered to be part of the team, serving as a police contact until in one of his latest appearances on the show, he regained his full powers and officially joined in. Aquaman, besides Superman, was the only original Leaguer from the comics, who appeared to be a founding member of the show's incarnation of the team. The Green Lantern (Alan Scott and not Hal Jordan, the original member of the League in the comics) also made a cameo on the show, being a former member of the now disbanded Justice Society with the current Green Lantern of Earth being John Stewart, who made his debut appearance in Lantern and with Hal Jordan, being the first Green Lantern of Earth, also making an appearance in a flashback scene in Lantern. Smallville's Justice League, also features one original member, who hasn't been featured in any other versions of the team, in the comics or other media. This member is Watchtower, with Chloe Sullivan being the original and Tess Mercer later replacing her, whose role in the team is similar to that of Oracle for the Batman "Family" members and the Birds of Prey.
The most crucial difference between the team and their comic counterpart is that the team is less public, operating more as a 'black ops strike team' in situations where conventional law enforcement would be unable or unwilling to take action, primarily focusing on preventing the abuse of superhumans by officials such as Lex Luthor or Slade Wilson, although they have become increasingly public as time goes on and the general populace becomes more aware of superhumans but as of season 11 they are basically Watchtower networking and coordinating allied agents across the globe[1] and the public has been presented with no formal, identifiable "team" of yet.[2]
Notes[]
- This is the first team of superheroes who have appeared on Smallville, the second was the Legion of Super-Heroes from the 31st century and the third was the Justice Society of America, a superhero group from the past.
- Due to the situation of Oliver Queen's superhero team taking a pro-active role in crime-fighting, as well as their status as vigilantes or criminals in the eyes of the law, as well as many others, the team more closely resembles the comics' team The Outsiders rather than the Justice League, especially considering Clark's disagreement with many of their crime-fighting practices and his refusal to officially join the group until recently. Also, considering the current lineup of the team, they have more in common with the type of heroes generally recruited for The Outsiders. The biggest thing that separates The Justice League from Queen's team is, of course, the absence of founding members Batman and Wonder Woman from their ranks.
- All the members of the Justice League on Smallville have been members (past or present) in the comics minus Bart Allen/Impulse.
- Absolute Justice marks the first JLA/JSA team-up. In the comics, they JLA and the JSA have made it an annual event to team-up with each other. Although, they sometimes get thrown on the same missions by fate itself.
- Clark, Chloe and Oliver can be considered Smallville's "Trinity". Oliver and Chloe are Clark's closest friend's and associates and out of everyone else in the League, Clark, Chloe and Oliver have worked together for the longest.
- Lois can be credited with helping to finish the team's name. She referred to them as the League in the last few episodes of the series.
Justice League in Other Media[]
Trivia[]
- The original Justice League first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #28 (1960) and consisted of members: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash (Barry Allen), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter. Smallville: Continuity #4 depicts the fully formed and named Justice League of Smallville as having an apparent line-up of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, Red Tornado (Tess Mercer), Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern (John Stewart). This carries similarities to the original DCAU Justice League, where they replaced Aquaman with Hawkgirl (to give the team more than one female member) and Hal Jordan with John Stewart (to add diversity). Furthermore, in the case of the Justice League shown in Smallville: Continuity #4, Superman (Clark Kent), Green Arrow (Oliver Queen), and Red Tornado (Tess Mercer) were all main cast characters on the Smallville television show (in Season Ten, they were three out of five credited main characters, making them the majority of the show's main cast during its conclusion). Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter was the most recurring superhero on the show, to never be a main cast member, with 13 appearances (including cameos).
- In the comics, Amanda Waller and Maxwell Lord have a long history with the Justice League of America.
- Season Ten's Patriot marks the first time that Lois Lane has ever been a member of the Justice League in any form.
- Hawkman/Carter Hall (the leader of the Justice Society of America) was an original JSA member in the comics. The character should not be confused with the decades-later Hawkman/Katar Hol, who was in the later JLA from its inception. These two characters have always been kept separate in DC Comics continuity until recently in Geoff Johns' Return of Hawkman story arc where Carter Hall and Katar Hol have been revealed to be the same, one being from a past life.
- Martian Manhunter, although not well known, has been a major JLA member in the past. He has been in every JLA lineup with the exception of the current League. Martian Manhunter was one of the main characters in Cartoon Network's Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. He was also the leader of the JLA in an unsuccessful 1997 TV-pilot Justice League of America.
