John Williams is an American film composer who has worked on a number of famous movies, in a career that spans over 60 years. One of the movies that Williams wrote the score for was Superman: The Movie (and its sequels). Smallville made use of his soundtrack, from that movie, in the episodes Rosetta, Calling and Finale, Part 2. In fact, the series finale ends with his "Superman March (Main Theme)" playing.
