In the Comics[]
Jennie-Lynn Hayden/Jade first appeared in All-Star Squadron #25 (September, 1983). However, her chronologically first appearance was in Infinity Inc. #1 (March, 1984). Together with her twin brother, Obsidian, Jade shows up at the JSA Brownstone, with the two claiming to be the children of Alan Scott (which Alan denies). Jade and Obsidian joins forces with the other children of several members of the JSA to form their own superhero team "Infinity, Inc.".
The origin of Jade and Obsidian were explored over the course of the series. They are proven to indeed be the children of Alan Scott (who he had been unaware of). Alan had gotten married, but his wife had seemingly died on their honeymoon. However, what he did not know was that his new bride was actually Rose Canton/The Thorn, a mentally ill foe of Jay Garrick. Rose's evil persona had attempted to attack Alan one night, but Rose fled (with Alan believing her to have been killed in a fire). She soon discovered that she was pregnant, and gave the children up for adoption.
The twins were adopted by different families, with Jennie-Lynn being adopted by a middle class family in Milwaukee. In her teens, Jennie-Lynn manifested powers (resembling the powers of her father's Power ring), and learned of her twin brother (who also possessed powers).
