Notes[]
- The character's name was never established.
- Jefferson Pierce was introduced in Continuity. However, in the Season Nine episode Warrior, there is a Black Lightning comic book, in the opening of the episode. The cover indicates that Jefferson possesses electrokinesis[1] This is similar to several members of the Justice Society of America appearing as action figures in the Season Seven episode Action,[3] before being revealed to have been real people,[4] making it possible that Jefferson's been active as Black Lightning since before 2010.
In the Comics[]
Black Lightning first appeared in Black Lightning #1 (April 1977). He was the first African-American superhero to headline his own series at DC Comics. Jefferson Pierce was a schoolteacher, who used his electrokinetic powers to attempt and clean up the crime-ridden Suicide Slums. The character has two daughters: Anissa and Jennifer Pierce, who becomes superheroines Thunder and Lightning. Black Lightning has been a founding member of the Outsiders, and a member of the Justice League.
