Jeff Palmer is the very protective brother of Amy Palmer.

His parents worked on the staff at the Luthor Mansion. He found some strange green roses on the grounds of the mansion. He studied the meteor rock-mutated roses, extracted their oils, and created a cream that rendered him invisible.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Invisibility: Jeff managed to make a cream out of the oils he found in kryptonite infused green roses, which makes him invisible. Jeff stated that while normal plants absorb light the oil of these roses refracted it. This invisibility is achieved by Jeff rubbing the cream all over his body and he becomes perfectly visible after removing it. Jeff´s invisibility through these kryptonite infused roses allowed him to be almost undetectable by Clark´s x-ray vision.
  • Superhuman strength: Due to Jeff's newfound physical strength, he was strong to know kick Clark backwards, as well as putting him in a chokehold momentarily.

Vulnerabilities[]

Clothing: Because the cream only works on living matter, Jeff is forced to strip naked before putting it on to make himself invisible.

Season One[]

Jeff's sister was obsessed with Lex Luthor and jealous of his current house guest, Victoria Hardwick. Jeff used his invisibility to vandalize Victoria's room, making Lex think there was a "ghost" haunting his mansion, but when she still didn't leave, he tried to drown her in her bathtub. One day after Amy had another jealous attack he went for Lex, attacking him and shouting at him to choose Amy over Victoria. Clark arrives just in time to see Lex hurt on the floor and manages to push Jeff into some construction scaffolding where a bucket of paint fell on him, making him visible and knocking him unconscious. After his battle with Clark Kent, he was taken away in an ambulance in need of some "serious therapy."

Notes[]

  • Like a lot of the early Freaks of the week, Jeff was never mentioned again. Leaving his life and fate after his one appearance unknown. As Jeff is said to need some "serious therapy",[1] it is likely that he ended up in Belle Reve (the fate of a lot of villains, especially in the early seasons).[2][3]
    • In such a scenario, it is possible that Jeff Palmer was later released by Checkmate (before the agency's destruction). In the episode Absolute Justice, Part 2, a conversation between Lois Lane and Clark Kent establishes that Checkmate has been secretly releasing all the bad guys (that fought the members of the Justice Society of America), and collecting them, by 2010.[4] In Charade, Checkmate is shown to have arranged for the life sentence of Ray Sacks (who had been put away by Clark and the Wonder Twins) to be overturned. One scene has Chloe Sullivan show Clark a list of other people, whose release has been arranged by Checkmate. Clark identifies the people on the list (which is not shown to the viewers) as people that he put away.[5] In Shield, Bette Sans Souci (who had been put away in 2009 by Clark Kent and Green Arrow) is shown to have been released from her incarceration, and joined the Suicide Squad.[6] In the episode Homecoming, Clark spots Greg Arkin (one of Clark's earliest foes) at their high school reunion, and identifies Greg as one of the people that he put away in high school (with Clark's panic at the sight of him indicating that Greg would have been unlikely to simply been released, having served whatever sentence he was given).[7] In Prophecy, Vordigan (who had been put in prison, through the combined effort of Clark and Green Arrow)[8] is shown to be out of prison.[9]

Possessing invisibility, Jeff also carries similarities with Blue Matt (real name unknown), an enemy of Superman and Batman, and a member of supervillain team The Network. Blue Matt first appeared in World's Finest #312 (February, 1985).

BrettBrysonGhostComics

Several characters refers to Jeff as "ghost".[1] There have been several DC Comics characters who has gone by the moniker "Ghost". Among them is Brett Bryson, a Superman villain appearing in Action Comics #39 (August, 1941). Though, Bryson dressed up as a ghost (with a white hood and cloak), rather than being invisible.
