History[]
The Fordman family had lived in Smallville since prior to 1943, when they founded Fordman's Department Store. George Fordman served in the Vietnam War, and married a woman named Betty. In 1984, the couple had a son named Whitney. The dawn of the 21st Century seemingly saw the end of the Fordman family bloodline. George Fordman became ill and passed away in the spring of 2002. Whitney Fordman, inspired by his father's military service, joined the Marines and was killed in action, in the spring of 2003.
By 2007, the Fordman's Department Store building housed the Smallville Furnishings store, indicating that Fordman's Department Store has either gone out of business or been sold by Betty Fordman.[1]
In the Comics[]
In the New Earth continuity, the Fordman family was connected to the Kent family. Prior to her marriage to Jonathan Kent, Martha had been married to Dan Fordman, until Dan passed away. Like on the show, Dan's family owned Fordman's Department Store.
