Meanwhile, Chloe Sullivan is fired as editor of the Smallville Torch, and Lex Luthor has an old girlfriend reenter his life with a plan to destroy his father.
Season Four[]
- Devoted (written by Luke Schelhaas) - Clark gets the starting quarterback position on the football team when his predecessor attacks Jason. When Chloe and Jason Teague also exhibit strange lovesick behavior, Clark and Lois investigate and discover that the cheerleaders are giving the team a kryptonite-enhanced love potion to turn them into obedient mindless boyfriends.
- Scare (written by Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson) - A LuthorCorp experiment is released into the atmosphere - a toxin that causes its victims to hallucinate their worst fear. Chloe, Clark, Lana, and Jason all fall victim to the toxin, and Lex, desperate to find a cure, takes a dangerous antidote. Meanwhile, Lionel is released from prison and his conviction overturned thanks to a mysterious benefactor.
