Clark and Lois in Season Eight.

Lois Lane and Clark Kent's relationship has developed slowly over the years from a bickering friendship into a passionate romance.

This fated relationship began when they met at the beginning of his senior year of high school. [1] They often bickered but despite these disputes, Lois and Clark have been shown to care a lot about each other [2]. They began dating officially a few months after Lois returned from the future. [3]

Even while the two were just friends, more than one person has commented on their chemistry over the course of their friendship. When Oliver Queen started dating Lois, he half-jokingly commented that Clark masked his feelings for Lois with sarcasm due to the two of them living under the same roof for so long. Jimmy Olsen set them up for a date on Valentines Day on the grounds that they had chemistry, yet Lois remained unconvinced describing their potential relationship as "hot fudge and halibut". A mystic called Star later cryptically told Jimmy that she had a feeling that Lois and Clark's destinies were more intertwined than anyone realized. Lois has also demonstrated a certain attraction for Clark on the three occasions where she has witnessed him openly using his powers, although she has always forgotten what she saw in the aftermath [4].

The relationship between Lois and Clark is usually called "Clois" by fans of the show.

Crusade-113

Lois takes Clark to the hospital.

After Chloe's alleged death, her cousin, Lois Lane, went to Smallville to investigate. Knowing that Chloe had a close relationship with Clark Kent, Lois went in search of Clark for answers. Coincidentally, Lois encountered Clark when he was returned as Kal-El, after being reprogrammed by Jor-El. Clark was disoriented, naked, and suffering from amnesia, so Lois came to his aid and took him to the Smallville Medical Center. As there was no known family to look after Clark, the receptionist assigned Lois to watch over Clark until he could be identified. Lois clearly found this responsibility a nuisance but reluctantly obliged.

Once Lois discovered that he was in fact Clark Kent, she was keen to get to know him better to help with her investigation. However, Martha Kent was keen to keep them apart while he was under the influence of his Kryptonian persona. After Clark returned to normal, Clark offered to help Lois uncover Chloe's death, and suggested she stay at his house while she was in town. Lois and Clark's personalities wildly clashed during her stay, as she had little respect for his privacy and even barged in on him in the shower, much to his shock. As soon as they began their investigation, and even after finding Chloe alive, they continued to argue and trade insults. However, when Lois revealed that her mother had died when she was little, Clark sympatheized with Lois.

Lois and Clark's reaction after they found out Lois would be staying a little longer.

Clark was less than thrilled when he discovered that Lois would be staying in Smallville for a while longer, as she had failed her last semester of high school and had to finish at Smallville High. Lois was also desperate to leave and helped Clark and Chloe write articles for the Smallville Torch for extra credit. Early in the year, she dunked Clark in the school dunk tank. Eventually, Clark asked Lex for a favor and he got Lois enrolled in Metropolis University and out of Clark's hair.

Lois was kicked out of the University shortly after and relied on Clark to let her stay at the Kent Farm again. Lois wound up staying in Clark's bedroom for the remainder of the school year while Clark slept on the couch. Although they usually fought, they sometimes had moments of friendship as Lois tried to adjust to small town life and the strange goings-on in Smallville. Lois threw a party for Chloe's eighteenth birthday in Clark's barn. Although Clark warned Lois that he had someone coming from Princeton Univeristy to interview him, Lois showed no concern and went ahead with the party plans anyway, showing a complete lack of consideration for Clark and his future. Lois also showed that she was not impressed with Clark's choice of girlfriend, when he started a relationship with ex-mental patient, Alicia Baker.

A friendship began to develop between Clark and Lois when they needed each other for support. When Alicia died, Lois offered Clark her condolences and felt sorry for Clark. Having discovered who the murder was she confided in Clark, however, he was so consumed with grief and rage that Clark almost killed him. Lois was able to reach out to Clark and calm him down. When Lois's little sister Lucy ran away, Lois confided in Clark that she felt guilty about how Lucy had turned out, and Clark tried to reassure her that she was a good big sister.

Lois and Clark discuss what could possible be in store for their future

Despite getting closer, their bickering continued. Lois hit a dog and brought him to the Kent farm. Even though Lois was highly allergic, Clark decided to keep him. In retaliation, Lois suggested they name the dog 'Clarkie' on the grounds that he was annoying and she couldn't come within ten feet of him without feeling sick. Clark was surprised when Lois suggested that she accompany him to the Senior Prom. Seeing how beautiful she looked in her prom dress, Clark agreed. However, he later discovered that Lois was possessed by the spirit of Dawn Stiles and, once Lois was exorcised of her, Lois was not impressed that she was Clark's date.

The day Clark graduated from high school, Clark didn't even try to conceal his delight when Lois announced that she and her father were leaving town to locate her sister. She started to give him a compliment about graduating high school but couldn't resist the opportunity to tease him one last time.

The second meteor shower interrupted Lois' plans to leave and instead, she met up with Clark again at the hospital. Clark thanked Lois for being there for his parents while he was trying to save Smallville. He attempted to return the favor when Lois nearly drowned, but Arthur Curry got there first. Thankful that AC had saved her, Lois quickly developed feelings for him. However, Clark remained suspicious of AC, as he exhibited metahuman powers in the water. Lois thought that Clark was jealous and got angry with Clark. After the confusion was set straight, Arthur left and Lois and Clark reconciled. Clark comforted Lois as she began to wonder if she would ever find the right guy.

Acting independently of each other, Clark and Lois went undercover to investigate the murder of a stripper that was connected with Jonathan's friend, Jack Jennings . Clark was surprised to see Lois posing as a stripper to infiltrate the club. He was clearly embarassed and uncomfortable to see Lois like this, although Clark's eyes seemed drawn to the scantily-clad Lois. The investigation led to Lois being kidnapped by Mr. Lyon, but Clark super-sped to the rescue. Lois appreciated Clark's help, although she found it difficult to thank him. Clark saved Lois again when Michael Westmore almost stabbed her.

"Lois, I promise, someday... you'll meet someone even more special."

Lois seemed insulted when Graham Garrett suggested that she was Clark's girlfriend. She then started a relationship with Graham but, when Clark discovered that he was a serial killer, Clark warned Lois away from him. Suspecting that Clark was jealous again, Lois got angry with Clark until Chloe revealed the truth about Graham. Lois then realized that Clark only had her best interests at heart and helped save him from Graham, who had discovered Clark's weakness to kryptonite.

After Lois moved out and got an apartment of her own, Clark and Lois became better friends, as they had more space between each other. They had thoughtful conversations about their shared uncertainty of their own futures. Lois believed that Clark kept his feelings bottled up, so she gave him a diary for his nineteenth birthday. She even gave him advice after he broke up with Lana, suggesting that maybe Lana wasn't everything Clark had been hoping for in a relationship after all. She offered him further advice, which made Clark realize that perhaps Lois understood him better than he thought.

Lois kisses a disguised Clark in Hydro.

After Oliver Queen came to Smallville and he and Lois started a relationship, Oliver suggested that Clark was a bit jealous and possibly had feelings for Lois that he himself wasn't aware of. When Oliver turned out to be a good guy, Clark told him that if he continued to keep his identity as Green Arrow a secret from Lois, their relationship was doomed to fail, having learnt this the hard way from his relationship with Lana Lang. Soon Lois began to rightly suspect that Oliver was the Green Arrow and enlisted Clark's help to prove it. Instead, Clark dressed up as the Green Arrow to help Oliver keep his identity secret. Believing that it was Oliver, Lois kissed the Green Arrow, unaware that it was actually Clark. This was Clark and Lois's first kiss. After Oliver appeared next to the costumed Clark, Lois slapped Clark and he sped away. When he took off his disguise, he was surprised at Lois's actions, but also visibly pleased. Lois later declared the Green Arrow a fabulous kisser, even better than Oliver.

Attracted to her, Bizarro hit on her, which she did not appreciate. She slapped him and later, believing that it had been Clark, reprimanded Clark for it.

Clark decided to stay, but he and Lois spent some time apart, as he was busy looking after his newly-arrived Kryptonian cousin, Kara, and enjoying his renewed relationship with Lana. Meanwhile, Lois was busy with her job at the Daily Planet and her new relationship with the editor, Grant Gabriel.

Clark reveals his secret to alternate Lois.

When Lois' relationship with Grant fell apart and her subsequent attempt to reignite her relationship with Oliver failed, Clark comforted Lois. She clearly appreciated this and the two of them embraced. She tried to return the favor when he was grieving for Lana after her Brainiac attack. Lois was saddened that she wasn't able to help Clark more and reverted to a 'buddy' relationship by taking him for a drink. Lois was keen to help Clark apply for an internship at the Daily Planet, indicating their growing relationship.

Once Lana recovered, she quickly made a decision to leave Smallville and left Clark a video explaining her decision. Lois walked in as Clark was watching it and offered him a comforting hug. Lois was clearly upset to see Clark heartbroken and Clark seemed to appreciate Lois's support.

They greeted each other with their usual banter and, once they had rescued Chloe, Clark took up Lois's earlier suggestion to work at the Daily Planet. Lois walked in on Maxima and Clark making out in the elevator, and was noticeably shocked and upset by what she had seen. Seeing Lois, Maxima's spell over Clark was broken and he rushed after Lois, although she claimed to not care about Clark's love life and quickly rushed off. Perceiving Lois as a threat and jealous of Lois's connection with Clark, Maxima went after Lois with intention to kill her. Lois denied any bond between her and Clark, but Maxima explained that a bond between them is the only way Clark was able to resist her influence. Lois was surprised by this and prepared to defend herself against Maxima's attack, but Clark arrived in time to save Lois by super speeding away with Maxima. Once Clark had returned Maxima to her home planet, Almerac, he discussed with Lois what had happened. Maxima had made Clark think about soulmates and he wondered aloud to Lois if he would recognize his soulmate. Lois assured him that he would know when the right woman came along, but remained tight-lipped about what Maxima had said to her. Clark then offered Lois her old room back at the farm, but she declined.

Lois confesses her feelings for Clark.

Lois got drunk at Chloe and Jimmy's engagement party and Clark took her to the Kent Farm to make sure she was safe. Lois awoke on the sofa wearing one of Clark's shirts and was nervous that they might have slept together. Clark quickly put her mind at rest and then drove Lois back to her apartment. When they arrived Lois listened to an answering machine message that a she had drunkenly left, talking about how cute Clark was. Lois was clearly embarrassed but claimed it was just the alcohol talking. Surprised that Chloe and Jimmy had not returned to their apartment yet, Clark and Lois began to investigate the situation, discovering that several engaged couples had been recently kidnapped.

Lois and Clark posed as a couple in various shops to try to lure out the kidnapper. Clark was reluctant to do this, while Lois seemed to enjoy it. The situation became a bit awkward, however, when Oliver stumbled into their jewelry shop and they continued to pretend to be engaged. Their plan backfired when Lois was kidnapped and Clark was weakened by the kidnapper's kryptonite bracelet during his search for Lois. With Lois and Clark both tied up in electric chairs and wired to a lie detector, the kidnapper, Macy, went through a series of questions about their relationship. When asked if she had ever cheated on Clark, Lois replied that she had not, causing Clark to be electrocuted. Lois tried to explain that they were not even a couple, but Macy continued his game, asking her if she loved Clark. Wanting to spare Clark the pain of another electric shock, but keen to keep her feelings hidden, Lois hesitated. Clark encouraged her to tell the truth and was surprised to hear Lois admit that she did love him. This registered as the truth and Clark was then asked the same question. Before he was made to answer, Clark overpowered Macy and escaped with Lois. After this, Lois was clearly embarrassed and keen to avoid Clark. When Clark caught her in the elevator, Lois lied that she had slipped the sensor off her finger, leaving Clark to wonder about Lois's true feelings.

Clark was surprised when Lois set up a date with Sebastian Kane, a new colleague of theirs. While she was preparing for the date, Clark helped her zip up her dress, which seemed to enjoy. She later confessed that it was not really a date, as she was investigating him for his meteor infection. When this put her in trouble, Clark prioritized saving Lois over concealing his identity and she was amazed when the Blur saved her. She then told Clark that she would track her hero down, not realizing that it was in fact Clark.

Lois, later, decided to move out of the Talon apartment and accepted Clark's offer to live with him at the farm. However, Clark was clearly nervous about this and tried to discourage her. Being so close to Lois soon led to trouble when the reprogrammed Crystal of Knowledge sent Lois and Clark to the Phantom Zone. Lois was frightened to discover that she was in an alien world and relied on Clark for comfort. He reassured her that "No one messes with Lois and Clark." Clark was very protective of Lois and, when they stumbled upon Kara, they hatched a plan to open the portal to send Lois home. When Clark and Kara also escaped, Kara suggested that he should tell Lois his secret, as she thought Lois could handle it. Kara reassured Clark that he obviously thought so too otherwise he wouldn't have let her get so close. Nevertheless, seeing the danger that he had put Lois in, he decided against it. Lois was left believing that she had just had a very lucid dream, but changed her mind about moving in with Clark when Tess Mercer gave her a raise.

Lois and Clark almost kiss.

During Chloe and Jimmy's pre-wedding preparations, Lois spoke to Jimmy. Having previously tried to get Clark and Lois together, he maintained that she and Clark could have something amazing. Lois seemed reluctant to admit this, but remained thoughtful. Lois and Clark then admired each other's formal attire and, when Clark read out Jimmy's wedding speech notes, Lois thought that Clark was finally revealing his true feelings for her. She was surprised and disappointed to see that this was not the case and Clark seemed to realize the mistake. They continued to share flirty moments during the wedding and almost kissed during a slow dance during the reception. They were interrupted by Lana's arrival, leaving Lois depressed.

Lois confessed to Oliver Queen that she was confused by her feelings for someone and feared that she had misjudged the situation. However, she continued to explain that there had been moments when she could not deny her attraction to this person and she had never felt this way about anyone before and thought that this person needed her. Correctly deducing that Lois was referring to Clark, Oliver assured her that Clark did need her, which pleased Lois. Unfortunately, Doomsday's disaster during the reception along with Lana's return both created obstacles in her relationship with Clark.

Clark reveals his secret to Lois.

Lois spent some time away from Smallville and, when she returned, she was disappointed to find that Clark was three hours late picking her up at the airport. Keeping his heroic duties a secret, he was unable to explain his delay. Nevertheless, shortly afterwards Linda Lake encouraged Clark to expose his true identity after she attempted to blackmail him. Clark chose to ask Lois to write his story. Although she didn't believe him at first, once Clark demonstrated his powers, Lois was clearly impressed. She assumed that she was the first to know and was disappointed when Clark admitted that Lana and Chloe had known for years.

Lois' article made everyone in Metropolis look up to Clark, until Linda convinced people that Clark was an alien invader. Chaos ensued and Lois, trusting Clark implicitly, vowed to clear his name. Clark came up with his own plan to put a stop to the situation and wanted to use the Legion ring to go back in time to 2 days before he revealed his secret. Lois was disappointed to realize that Clark would not tell her again, thinking she was not special to him. Clark assured her that the reason why he would not tell her his secret again was because she was special.

Lois admires Clark for his sentimentality

In the new time line, Clark remembered to pick Lois up at the airport. Lois gave Clark a chance to talk about the 'almost kiss' that happened at the wedding, but Clark said that would be a very complicated conversation. Lois told Clark that she would be at a cafe later and if he decided to come that would be cool, but she tried to remain casual. Clark went to the coffee shop and saw Lois waiting, but instead of meeting her, he sent a text from across the street with the excuse that he was held up at work. Lois looked disappointed but, to save her dignity, she replied that she could not make it either.

When Chloe was made to look like Lois due to a magic spell, she went to the Daily Planet to assume Lois' life. Believing Chloe to be Lois, Clark revealed that Lois had called him six times that day, while he hadn't spoken to Chloe once on her birthday. Chloe quickly noticed how Clark was treating her differently as Lois and, once she was returned to normal, they discussed his changing relationship with Lois. Clark said things between them had been a bit uneasy but Chloe believed he was interested in Lois and encouraged them to work things out. However, Lois announced she was going on a date with a guy she had met during a trip and Clark seemed a bit crestfallen that she didn't want to spend time with him. Lois, remembering that Clark stood her up at the coffee shop, declared that it would be easier if they just remained coworkers, although she seemed pleased that Clark had kept her rules of reporting from when he started working at the Daily Planet.

Lois talks to the Blur.

As a ploy to get the Red-Blue Blur out of hiding, Lois became a superhero known as Stiletto. When Clark met her in her disguise, he knew instantly it was Lois. She was angry that he could see through her disguise and showed resentment that he had stood her up that night at the cafe. Nevertheless, when Clark found Lois in danger, he took a bullet for her, despite being weakened by kryptonite. Lois was clearly concerned for Clark and upset that her irresponsible plan had put him in danger, although it worked, as later that same night, Lois received a phone call from the "Red-Blue-Blur." She offered to talk anytime and he told Lois she would be the first to know his secret when he was ready to reveal himself to the world. Lois was pleased with this, while Clark's trust in Lois seemed to grow.

Lois LegionRing

Lois finds the legion ring.

When Clark discovered that he would die the next day fighting Doomsday, he wrote a letter as the Red-Blue Blur to say his goodbyes to the citizens of Metropolis. Lois arrived as he was finishing this to express her disappointment that he was not helping to find Chloe. When she went to look at his computer screen and he shut it down, she became angry with him, frustrated by his secretiveness. He then called Lois as The Red-Blue Blur to ask her to publish the letter if something were to happen to him. She was shocked that he could die and was clearly concerned for his safety. She then arranged to meet him by a phone booth, but before she could get there, she was accidentally sent to the future via the legion ring.

822-Doomsday-9

"Clark Kent is dead."

During Doomsday's attack, Clark went to the phone booth and was shocked to see that she wasn't there. Clark was nervous that she had been hurt by Doomsday and, after Doomsday was defeated, Clark searched for Lois. When this proved unsuccessful, he confided in Chloe that there seemed no hope of finding Lois. He was clearly upset by this, which aided his decision to turn his back on his human persona.

He made it his mission to protect her and look over her, which Alia had predicted he would do, which was why she had targeted Lois in the first place. This made it clear that Lois and Clark's futures were significantly entwined.

When Lois returned to work, she was sad to discover that Clark had taken a leave of absence, as she missed him. She even seemed excited when she heard Clark's chair creaking, believing it to be him, trying to annoy her as he had done the year before. It turned out that the creaking was done by John Corben, a new reporter. As the Blur, Clark continued to keep in contact with Lois via the phone. However, this put Lois in danger, as he requested her help to stop Corben after he had been turned into a cyborg known as Metallo. Once she was kidnapped, Clark once again came to Lois's rescue. After defeating Metallo, Clark tended to an unconscious Lois, stroking her brow with affection. When she woke up, she saw the Blur standing in the distance concealing his face in the shadows. While she was overjoyed to see him, she was desperate for the Blur to reveal his face before he super-sped away.

Clark takes Lois away.

The next morning, Clark restarted his job at the Daily Planet and Lois was thrilled to see him. She ran into his arms telling him how glad she was that he was back, but she quickly became embarrassed and backed away. Clark then leaned toward her and whispered that he missed her too. The Blur seemed to come in between Lois and Clark, as Clark began to suspect that Lois wanted to be in a relationship with the Blur, which Lois denied. Meanwhile, Lois remained oblivious to the fact that Clark was leading a double life as the Blur.

Lois sees Clark.

Lois and Clark found themselves investigating a zombie threat. Lois soon had to defend herself against the entire staff of the Daily Planet that had been transformed into zombies. When Clark eventually arrived, he was keen to protect Lois, although she was skeptical that Clark could defend them. They fought off the zombies together, although Clark was torn between maintaining his secret and protecting Lois. As a result, Lois was bitten by one zombie. In a safe location Lois and Clark shared a tender moment where Lois, unsure of their chances of survival, decided to share one of her deepest secrets that her involvement with the Blur was for selfish reason,s but she felt an intimate connection with him that she had never experienced before which made her not want to be alone again. Clark was very touched by Lois's feelings but failed to tell her his secret when she asked him if he had anything he would like to share. As the threat worsened, Clark rushed off to Chloe, to try and fix the situation. Clark left Lois in Oliver's care, instructing him to make sure that she did not fall asleep and allow the infection to take effect. However, Oliver, feeling threatened by Clark and Lois's seemingly blooming relationship, chose that moment to discuss his feelings for her. As Oliver let his guard down, Lois fell asleep and completed the transformation into a zombie. Clark was horrified to discover this and, unwilling to inflect any harm onto Lois, he tried to reason with her. Unaware of her actions, a zombified Lois attacked Clark and pushed Clark into the street. Clark grabbed Lois and held her firmly until the antidote came down as rain and cured her. Relieved to have survived their ordeal together, Lois and Clark shared a romantic embrace in the rain. Later, Lois paid Clark a visit at the Kent farm to thank him for being there for her, stating that she had seen a new side to him, that of a hero. She also said that while he never did tell her his secret, she would find out eventually.

Clark and Lois.

When Jor-El temporarily gave Clark the power of telepathy, he was able to hear Lois's thoughts and was pleased to hear about her deep attraction to him. Encouraged by her feelings for him, Clark invited Lois on a date. However, due to Toyman's threat to blow up the Ace of Clubs, Clark was unable to make his date with Lois. She misunderstood Clark's intentions and believed that Clark was chasing a story without her rather than standing her up again so followed him. Trying to keep Lois safe, Clark pretended he was only interested in the story, much to Lois's dismay.

Partners in love.

In an effort to make amends, Clark shared the byline with Lois after asking her help to finish the article. Clark apologized for letting her down and Lois accepted his apology. Clark inquired how he might get a second date after messing up to which Lois told him, hypothetically speaking, to wait for a slower news day. Clark assured her that hypothetically speaking, he would get it right the next time.

A passionate kiss.

Fearing that she would have nothing to fall back on should newspapers have no importance in the future, Lois auditioned to be the host of "Good Morning Metropolis" and took Clark along. They were surprised when the producers offered them both the job due to their amazing chemistry. For their first assignment, they were sent on blind dates. Lois was jealous of Clark's date, Catherine Grant. Lois's date then turned out to be Oliver and Clark was visibly hurt at the thought that there may still be something between Lois and Oliver. This made Clark confront his feelings and at his first opportunity he gave Lois a passionate kiss.

Clark and Lois in the copy room.

Overwhelmed by the prospect of a relationship with Clark, Lois left town for 2 weeks. On her return, she was more open to starting a relationship again. Troubled by her recurring images of her and Clark in a romantic embrace, Lois went to a therapist to discuss her feelings for Clark. Her therapist was concerned that she may have stronger feelings for the Blur than for Clark, but Lois was disappointed with the Blur's lack of contact with her and his recent botched rescues, which were actually the work of Zan and Jayna, the Wonder Twins. Clark eventually called Lois as the Blur in order to try to defend himself but Zan accidentally turned off the scrambler to reveal Clark's real voice to Lois, who was shocked to discover Clark's secret.

Another passionate kiss.

Despite Lois hinting that she knew the truth, Clark denied it and Chloe helped Clark hide his identity by phoning Lois as the Blur while she was with Clark. Confused, she admitted to her therapist that she was silly to believe that Clark was the Blur. At the Daily Planet, Clark asked Lois to meet him in the copy room. Clark confirmed to her that he had in fact been keeping a secret from her, and revealed to her that he needed to wear glasses. Lois told him that they were "very Clark Kent." She apologized for assuming that he was the Blur. Lois teased Clark by recommending contact lenses, and that she'd only call him "four-eyes" once in a while. She started to walk away but turned back, initiating a long kiss with Clark. This concluded with Lois having a flash of her recurring vivid dream and collapsing in Clark's arms.

Lois and Clark become a couple.

Clark then took Lois to the hospital but was concerned when she disappeared. Clark found her at Belle Reve hooked up to Project Intercept. While trying to disconnect her from the machine, he accidentally pierced himself with one of the electrodes. With their minds in sync, Clark was able to see Lois' memories of the alternate future, which she had experienced during her absence due to the legion ring. In these memories, Clark saw himself making love to Lois. After these memories were erased from Lois's mind and she awoke from her coma, Clark finally asked Lois about the status of their relationship. With some ground rules from Lois, they decided to become a couple.

A sensual kiss.

Lois and Clark went to the Daily Planet's Wishing Well Foundation Gala. As they left, they talked about the fact it was their first personal outing as a couple. Clark suggested they go back to the farm and she jokingly turned him down, but Clark leaned forward and kissed her. Lois insisted that they slow down in order to get their relationship right. Clark then had to leave her to stop a robbery, leaving her vulnerable to an attack by the Dark Archer. This resulted in her being admitted to hospital and receiving a visit from Zod. Clark, concerned for Lois, visited her in hospital and arranged a date. Later, Lois met Clark for their date and noted that she had had to take a cab from the hospital. Clark apologized and Lois showed him the charm that Clark's "friend" gave her. When she mentioned Zod's name, Clark was concerned for Lois's safety.

"I believe in the fate you make happen."

Lois uncovered a team of superheroes from the past known as the Justice Society of America and met Doctor Fate who revealed her fate as the key to Clark's destiny (although he names Clark as "the Savior" rather than using his name). At the Planet, Lois showed Clark her front page article about the JSA and noted that he could have had a byline with her if he hadn't disappeared. Lois mentioned what Dr. Fate said about her destiny and Clark asked her if she believed in fate, to which she replied that she believed in the fate you make happen.

Lois and Clark at Met-Con.

Lois was assigned to cover Metropolis's annual WonderCon but changed her mind about what costume she would wear and asked Clark to pick up a new outfit from her apartment on his way to the convention. Clark arrived but Zatanna interrupted his conversation with Lois. As Clark and Zatanna headed off, Lois was clearly jealous, but when a rare comic-book was stolen at the convention, they agreed to split up to cover more ground in finding it. While investigating, Zatanna tried to seduce Clark only to discover his feelings for Lois were stronger than her magic. Clark returned to the Daily Planet and found Oliver and Lois speaking in supposedly intimate tones. As Oliver left, he warned Clark that Lois was angry. However, Lois seemed the opposite and claimed that she was not one to get jealous over someone like Zatanna. Clark admitted to Lois that Zatanna kissed him. Lois was not surprised, as she could tell by his inability to make eye contact. Lois then proceeded to even the playing field by kissing a random passer-by. Thrown off but still intent on making it up to Lois, Clark offered to take her to the after-Con Costume ball. Lois accepted both the tickets and the apology on the condition that she could pick his costume.

Clark and Lois were together on Valentine's Day when Clark became infected with gemstone kryptonite, giving him the ability of persuasion. He told Lois that he wanted a traditional relationship and, unaware of the spell that had been cast, Lois quit her job and insisted that they would get engaged. Clark was surprised by Lois's behavior but she continued to plan the wedding, phoning family and friends to tell them the news. It was only when Clark was cured by kryptonite that the spell was broken and Lois was keen for them to slow things down.

Keeping secrets adds spice.

The next day at the Planet, Lois was working on her story when she got a text message on her Checkmate comm device from Amanda Waller, but Lois was forced to hide the device when Clark came in. She tried to distract him by suggesting they take a break from work and go for a romantic dinner to which Clark easily agreed. However, Faora arrived and Clark explained that Faora was his lead on a current story. Lois ended up going to the restaurant where she wanted to meet with Clark. As she sat, surrounded by signs of romance everywhere, a man named Dr. Chisholm approached and told her that he had a story for her, surrounding a conspiracy of aliens living among humans. However she feared that he was insane and had attempted to inform the police. Before she could say anything, Chisholm kidnapped Lois to be "drafted into war." Lois tried to save Vala, a Kandorian, with help from Zod, but Chisholm stopped them. As the Blur, Clark rescued Lois, Vala, and Zod. Back at the Planet, Lois filled Clark in on her in story while also trying to learn the test result from the blood sample she had obtained at Chisholm lab contained in a box. Clark was very curious about the contents in the mysterious box. Lois made a deal with Clark that if he told her his secret, she would reveal her secret. Suddenly they both received text messages: Clark's was from Zod and Lois's was from Waller. Lois and Clark came to a mutual understanding that a bit of mystery added spice to their relationship.

Escape

First attempt at romantic intimacy.

In an effort to get some much needed alone time with Lois, Clark planned a mysterious romantic getaway in an attempt to finally consummate their relationship. Uncertain of what type of location spot Clark had chosen, Lois prepared her bags for each possible case scenario. Clark arrived at the Daily Planet and informed Lois they would be staying at a Scottish place called McDougal Inn. Lois and Clark arrived at the inn during a dreadful storm, due a slight detour to see the biggest ball of yarn in the world, at Lois's behest. Unfortunately for the happy couple, they checked in later than expected and the Innkeeper gave their registered room to another couple, a couple they would later find out to be Oliver and Chloe. The innkeeper informed them that only remaining room had a dreadful water leak, which Clark was able to fix. He also managed to rapidly make the room inhabitable using his super powers.

Clark tried to make everything perfect to spend the night with Lois and Clark was very impressed when he saw Lois in her nightgown. As the two were preparing to spend their first intimate night in bed together, they were suddenly interrupted by a terrifying scream.

Lois and Clark went to investigate the disturbance only to discover that Oliver and Chloe were in bathrobes in the middle of the lobby. The next morning was very awkward for both couples as they discussed ending up at the same location as well as their different views on Oliver and Chloe as a couple. Unfortunately for Lois and Clark, a series of strange events unfolded that inhibited their romance. A spirit known as the Silver Banshee escaped from the underworld and in the process, possessed Chloe and Lois causing a few more awkward moments. Chloe, possessed by Silver Banshee, attempted to seduce Clark in the shower and a possessed Lois tried to kill Oliver in the woods. Thanks Chloe's help, Clark was able to return Banshee back to the underworld and Lois returned to normal with no memory of the previous events of the hour.

Back at the Talon, Lois and Clark talked about their horrible trip, and Clark told her that it wasn't so bad, especially for the ball of yarn. Clark lifted Lois on the table and started to kiss her passionately when suddenly her cellphone started to ring. Trying to respect her privacy, Clark did not listen to the phone conversation. The person calling her turned out to be Zod, pretending to be the Blur by using his voice scrambler. Zod then proceeded to ask Lois for her help while requesting that she keep their conversations secret.

Lois and Clark lean in for a kiss.

Clark paid Lois a surprise visit, finding an unexplained cut on her body which she could not account for, followed by her stating that she could not remember how she got into bed with the clothes she was wearing the night before. Clark became convinced that Lois was hiding something from him and as Lois tried to distract him from asking more questions, Zod, continuing to pose as the Blur, called.

A love triangle built for two.

As Clark discovered that Lois had been secretly working for The Blur, their relationship began to be tested by none other than his own alter-ego, the Blur. Lois assumed that Clark was just jealous of the relationship she had with The Blur, severely straining their relationship. The new editor of the Daily Planet, Franklin Stern, had also issued a friendly challenge that threatened both of their jobs. The couple attempted to save their careers by doing an expose on the recently early release of former D.A.Ray Sacks. After causing an embarrassing scene at the welcome back party for Sacks that lands on the front page of Metropolis Inquisitor newspaper, Stern fired the couple from the Planet. Lois was then kidnapped by Maxwell Lord, who intended on uncovering the true identity of the Blur by exploring her mind, but she subconsciously fought his powers.

As the Blur, Clark saved Lois, and they had another encounter in which Clark was almost willing to reveal himself to Lois. However, shortly before this, Lois furiously told Clark that the Blur would never reveal his identity and put her in danger just to get his secret off his back. In order to protect her, Clark called Lois as the Blur and ended their relationship in an emotional phone call, telling her that any future calls would only be from an impostor.

As Clark, he met her on the rooftop of The Daily Planet for their date where he tried to be understanding to the conflicted feelings Lois was experiencing due to her break-up with The Blur. Clark questioned if he would be enough to fill her void, now that the "Blur" was gone.

Awkward Dinner/Break-Up.

Clark tried to focus all his attention in finding Jor-El's Book of Rao in hopes of finding a solution to preventing Zod and his army from ruling Earth. Unfortunately, Lois was fully determined to find a way in getting her and Clark's jobs back at The Daily Planet. Believing that her job as a reporter gave her purpose Lois tried to enlist Clark's help, only to find he was more preoccupied with a mysterious quest of his own. Stressed by their conflicting goals, Clark and Lois decided to take a break from their relationship. At that moment, Martha Kent returned to the Kent Farm for a surprise visit with her boyfriend Perry White. During their stay, Lois and Clark tried to pretend that their relationship as a couple was not in turmoil to please Martha. During an awkward dinner, Lois decided to break-up with Clark. This upset Clark as he talked with his mother about his current problem and Martha assisted Clark in getting the Book of Rao. Lois teamed up with Perry White on a story involving the Kandorians' own quest to obtain the Book of Rao and thanks to Perry, Lois and Clark were reinstated as employees at The Daily Planet.

An emotional confrontation.

After making the decision to use the Book of Rao to transport all Kryptonians to a different plane of existence, Clark decided to be completely honest to Lois about the true feelings that he deeply had for her. Unbeknownst to him, Zod met with her earlier on, revealing himself as The Blur in an effort to get Lois to have misgivings about Clark as she investigated further into Clark's activities and for her to retrieve the book of Rao for Zod. Lois, feeling sentimental about Clark, began looking through a trunk in his loft. Prior to Clark's arrival, Lois discovered Dr. Swann's journal and saw an image of the Book of Rao, unnerving her and making her come to conclusion that Clark knew more about the Kandorians than he was letting on.

When Clark arrived, meaning to reveal his feelings and possibly his secret to Lois, she mentioned that Perry White offered her a job in Africa and that she would turn it down for Clark. Clark, taken back by this and knowing his intentions to leave with the other Kryptonians, decided to keep his secrets although Lois claimed that they needed to be honest with one other. Clark denied multiple times that he was hiding anything from her and encouraged Lois to take the job. A clearly distraught Lois left after a last embrace, with Clark unaware that Lois had used this time to take the Book of Rao from him.

Salvation -1047

Lois hands the Book of Rao to the Blur.

As Lois prepared to give the disguised Zod the Book of Rao, she discovered that Zod was not the real Blur due to the difference of the touch on her left shoulder. Thus, Lois confirmed his deception and refused to give him the Book. Angered, Zod attempted to kill her by throwing her into a nearby phone booth with super strength, but was stopped by Clark in his Blur attire.

Salvation

Lois discovers that Clark is the Blur.

Clark super sped in and with a powerful punch, knocked Zod away as he rushed to catch Lois. He prevented her from fully hitting the phone booth and set her down. After awakening, she walked over to him in the shadows, asking for his forgiveness for being deceived. She handed him the Book of Rao and Clark dragged her towards him, passionately kissing her. Once he departed, Lois showed an expression of shock and then smiled, coming to the realization and amazement that Clark and the Blur were one and the same.

Lois & Superman

Superman-my-other-job

Lois watches her husband Clark changing into Superman!

In the Superman universe, Lois Lane is the true love and soul mate of Clark Kent. In current comics, Clark immediately had strong feelings for Lois upon meeting her. He persistently courted her, and she eventually discovered that she loved him as well. The relationship eventually culminated with the two characters getting married. Currently, they remain married, and even at one point adopted Lor-Zod (General Zod and Ursa's child) as their son who was renamed Christopher Kent.

001

Lois & Clark

In the Superman feature films, Clark and Lois worked together, and Lois likes Clark as a friend, but is in love with Superman. She later extends her feelings to Clark after she discovered his true identity. However, in the storyline continued by the latest film, Superman Returns, Lois has moved on to another relationship although clearly still in love with Superman, while Clark is almost exclusively Superman, fulfilling his destiny to save the world. However, in this film, Lois has a son, Jason, which bears certain likeness to Clark and it is heavily implied that he is indeed Clark's son from a previous sexual encounter between Lois and Superman.

In Lois & Clark : The New Adventures Of Superman the relationship with Lois is the prominent relationship Clark has, as the name suggests. She discovers the fact that he is Superman in the end of the second season, shortly before he proposes. They get married and adopt a child sent to them from New Krypton.

Because Smallville is its own continuity and not guaranteed to follow any particular storyline, it remains to be seen if Clark and Lois will be happily married like in the comics, or tragically apart as in the feature films, although since Lana Lang left the series, Lois and Clark have grown closer culminating in Clark and Lois' relationship in Season 9.

In the Season 9 finale, Salvation, Clark Kent has a dream sequence that depicts his inevitable future as Superman in Metropolis as well as his job as a reporter working at the Daily Planet, working alongside his partner and wife Lois Lane.

In a recent interview Dana explained that originally "the nickname was meant to be Lois's clever way of insulting Clark due to the fact that she sees him as an inexperienced farmboy who had no business in the big city as a reporter and would be better off returning to his home town. However the writers change it to be a playful nickname to mask Lois's hidden feelings she had been developing for Clark. She'd refer to him as "Kent" when she was serious and "Smallville" as playful banter which worked out so well that it was incorporated into the comics as the official pet name".

Lois: Look, he's about as attracted to me as a Red Sox fan to the Yankees.
Maxima: You may not know it yet, but believe me there's a bond. And I could see it on your face when you caught us together, you feel it, too.
Instinct

Macy: You must really care about her; storming in here. It's very gallant of you.
Lois: Yeah, he's stupid that way.
Committed

Macy: Deep down, underneath it all, do you love this man?
Clark: Just answer the question, Lois. Don't over think it. Just tell the truth.
Macy: Do you love him? (Lois begins to shake and breathe sharply)
Clark: Lois, just tell the truth.
Macy: Do you love him?
Lois: [begins to cry] Yes...
Committed

Lois: I thought, just for minute, that someone needed me.
Oliver: Oh I'm sure he needs you Lois.
Lois: That's sweet of you to say, but how do you know?
Oliver: Because I know Clark.
Bride

Lois: How can someone with x-ray vision be so blind? I've been down the hero road before. And every time, I made a giant u-turn. But this... this was different.
Clark: And this time, it will be different, Lois. When I do this, no one's gonna remember who I am.
Lois: And when you hit your reset button... you're not gonna tell me your secret, are you?
Clark: I'm sorry.
Lois: That's okay. Why should I think I'm special? Clark... I understand.
Clark: Lois, you don't understand. It's because you are special.
Infamous

Lois: (to Clark) This is embarrassing to admit, but... I don't want to be alone anymore.
Rabid

Lois: But I do remember seeing a whole new side of Clark Kent.
Clark: Which side was that?
Lois: I'll give you a hint. It starts with "H" and ends with "ero."
Rabid

Lois: The truth is... we could all die tomorrow.
Clark: Lois, I died when you left.
Lois: I'm here now. (they kiss and make love)
Pandora

Clark: You can lean on me for strength. I feel stronger when you're around, anyway.
Lois: Clark, I've done this dating thing wrong so many times.
Clark: Then let's do it right. Just take your time.
Pandora

Clark: You know, Lois, we could go back to the farm and take a walk. I could give you Clark Kent's tour of the galaxy.
Lois: Smallville, the only planet you know about is the one you read at the breakfast table.
Disciple

Clark: You asked me what my dream was, and it's this: With you, Lois.
Warrior

Clark: I promise, we'll be together. Always and...
Lois: Forever? Do you mean it?
Clark: I do.
Persuasion

Clark: (to Lois) Look, my whole life has been full of relationships that have ended too soon. And then when I went away last fall, I... Lois, I felt so lost. When I came back to the ballpen... you were there waiting for me. You jumped out of your seat, you threw your arms around me, and the way that your eyes sparkled when you smiled, I just... I knew. I just knew that you were the one that I've always needed. And I needed you to know that.
