Caroline Cranstoun was a student at Smallville High School in 2005, and classmate to Clark Kent. Caroline was the Captain for the Smallville High School Girls Basketball team.

When Dawn Stiles was flipping through a yearbook, looking for possible prom kings, she passed the page with Caroline's picture in it.

- Caroline Cranstoun appears with name and picture in a Smallville High year book in the Season Four episode Spirit. It is unknown if the girl in the picture ever appeared on the show. In the case of Jacquie Gould in the Season Four episode Ageless, they used the picture of a background actress (Simone Bailly), who had been in the background of several episodes, to represent Jacquie Gould. Making it possible that the people appearing in the yearbook are past background actors/extras.
- The character is named after Smallville crew member Caroline Cranstoun, who worked as a costume designer on the show. Cranstoun later worked as a costume designer on The Flash television show for the CW.
