Brenda would frequently enter her daughter, Rachel, into beauty pageants. However, when Brenda entered Rachel into the Miss Smallville Pageant, tension emerged between mother and daughter (brought on by their different dreams for Rachel's life). Resulting in a verbal fight where Rachel declared that she never wanted to see her again. Meanwhile, the pageant had been targeted by sabotage. Brenda was given a mysterious letter, offering to tell her who was behind it. Brenda went to where the letter instructed, and found herself trapped in a sewer, together with Pete Ross (who had suspected Brenda as being the one behind it), and raising water. As they were about to drown, Brenda expressed regret over her last conversation with her daughter. Brenda and Pete were rescued at the last moment by Clark Kent. Afterwards, Brenda mended her relationship with Rachel, who exited the pageant. A week later, Brenda and Rachel watched another girl win the pageant together.[1]
