Superman Connections[]
- There are many connections between the film Bonnie and Clyde and the Superman franchise.
- Bonnie and Clyde was the first screenplay written by screenwriters David Newman and Robert Benton. Newman and Benton later (together with Newman's wife, Leslie Newman) co-wrote Superman: The Movie (1978), Superman II (1980) and Superman III (1983).
- Warren Beatty, who played Clyde Barrow, turned down the role of Clark Kent/Superman in Superman: The Movie (1978).
- Faye Dunaway, who played Bonnie Parker, later played the witch Selena in the Supergirl (1984) film, opposite Helen Slater.
- Gene Hackman, who played Clyde's brother Buck Barrow, later played Lex Luthor, opposite Christopher Reeve, in three movies.
- Michael J. Pollard, who played C.W. Moss, later played Mister Mxyzptlk in the Superboy (1988-1992) TV Series.
Notes[]
- Bonnie and Clyde (1967) was a landmark movie, which helped to usher in the New Hollywood era of the 1960s and 1970s.
- Clark Kent and Lana Lang encounter the actual Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in Superboy #149 (July, 1968), technically making the criminal duo canonical Superman villains.
- Superman (Dean Cain) Lois Lane (Teri Hatcher) also encounter clones of Bonnie and Clyde (along with Al Capone and John Dillinger) in the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman episode "That Old Gang of Mine".
