Betsy Ross was a woman living during the American revolution.
Season Two[]
While discussing heroes, Chloe Sullivan revealed to her friends that Betsy Ross had been her role model in first grade (due to Chloe believing the myth about Ross and the American flag). However, all of that changed, when Chloe found out that Ross didn't actually design the American flag. This changed Betsy Ross in Chloe's eyes, from a pioneer for women, to a glorified seamstress.
Notes[]
- Betsy Ross was an American upholsterer, who lived from 1752 to 1836. Decades after her death, her family credited her with having made the first flag for the United States of America (a story dismissed by most historians).
In the Comics[]
Betsy Ross has been featured many times in DC Comics.
In Action Comics #198 (November, 1954), Lois Lane hallucinates that she is several female historical figures, with Betsy Ross being one of them.
In Action Comics #274 (March, 1961), Supergirl travels back in time to 1776 and sees Betsy Ross invent the American flag.
