"We're looking to sample the sweet taste of revenge."Ian Randall, Asylum

An unnamed alliance between Belle Reve patients Eric Summers, Ian Randall, and Van McNulty. The trio was brought together by their shared desire to get revenge against Clark Kent (who had sent them all to Belle Reve).

Members[]

Season Three[]

The alliance came about after Eric Summers, Ian Randall, and Van McNulty encountered Clark Kent, who was visting Belle Reve, as his friend Lex Luthor was a temporary patient at the facility. Eric and Ian approached Van, whom they had heard knew Clark's weakness (which neither of them did). While originally reluctant, due to his hatred of Meteor Freaks, Eric and Ian managed to talk Van into their plans to get revenge against Clark Kent (and then to break out of Belle Reve). However, their alliance would prove short-lived.

Van got a piece of Green Kryptonite smuggled into Belle Reve. However, once Van handed the stone over to Ian (and informed him about it being Clark's weakness), Ian responded by murdering him. Eric and Ian managed to capture Clark, when he had come to break Lex out. Using high voltage connections, Eric leeched Clark's powers. However, rather doing as they had planned, Eric turned on Ian and threw him across the room. Eric threw Clark around, until Clark got the upper hand (thanks to the Green Kryptonite), and retook his powers. Clark left Eric and Ian at Belle Reve.

Notes[]

  • While Clark had encountered groups of villains before in Kinetic, Insurgence, and Witness, this alliance marked the first time that past villains (who had appeared in individual episodes) banded together.

Appearances[]

In the Comics[]

While an unnamed group, they are an adaptation of the Superman Revenge Squad. There have been many incarnation of the squad in the comics.

The original squad first appeared in Superboy #94 (January, 1962), where they were known as the Superboy Revenge Squad (with the story being set during Clark's teenage years, when he was Superboy). They consisted of alien space pirates from the planet Wexr II, who had been brought together by their shared hatred of Superboy. The group would also encounter Clark, after he became an adult, by which time they called themselves the Superman Revenge Squad.

Adventures of Superman #543 (February 1997) introduced a new incarnation of the Superman Revenge Squad. This squad did not consist of alien space pirates from the planet Wexr II, but of various characters who held grudges (for one reason or another) Superman. Several more incarnations of the Superman Revenge Squad has been formed since.
