Early life[]
Atlanna, queen of Atlantis, and her son Orin are exiled from Atlantis and settle in Tempest Key, a community which is about 25 miles away from Mercy Reef, a coral reef in the Atlantic Ocean on the outer perimeter of the territory of Atlantis. They come to live with Tom Curry, a Lieutenant at the coast guard who acts as a father for Orin, now called Arthur.
Pilot[]
Atlanna and Arthur, who still is a boy, are flying over the Bermuda Triangle. Suddenly, Atlanna's necklace begins to glow and a surge of light and energy erupts from the ocean, bringing their plane down. Atlanna is kidnapped by a siren, but she can still give Arthur her necklace and calls him Orin. At this occasion, Arthur learns that he can breathe underwater.
Ten years later, Arthur is a dive shop owner in his early twenties and lives on a houseboat next to the coast guard base where his adoptive father Tom works. His friend Eva is the owner of the local beach bar.
One day, Arthur is releases dolphins from a marine park and is arrested by the sheriff. His father bails him out of trouble, but gives him a stern lecture on responsibility. He later explains to Eva that it felt as if the dolphins were calling him. Later, Arthur is approached by a lighthouse keeper who identifies himself as McCaffery, another exile from Atlantis. He warns him about the challenges that he is about to face since the past is about to come calling.
When Air Force Lieutenant Rachel Torres flies to Mercy Reef, Arthur follows her underwater. Near the reef, his necklace begins to glow and another surge of light lets the jet plane explode. Torres can can save herself with the ejector seat, and Arthur comes to her rescue.
In the evening, Artur meets Nadia and goes swimming with her. In the water, Nadia reveals herself to be the Siren that took Arthur's mother. She attacks Arthur, but vanishes when McCaffery appears with a crossbow. Later Nadia captures both Arthur and McCaffery and starts bringing them back to Atlantis to be executed. Arthur succeeds in breaking free, using a flask of water to enhance his strength, and he destroys Nadia by putting a spear through her head.
McCaffery explains that there will be more creatures that will come looking for Arthur and that he should have started his training years prior. Arthur agrees to start his training, and McCaffery leaves him with Henry IV Part 1 and Part 2 to read. McCaffery informs Arthur, who would rather just skip to the ending, that "It isn't about the ending, it's about the journey."
