I noticed in this episode (S9E04 Echo) Jor-El refers to Clark by his human name, rather than his Kryptonian name. I think this might be the first time, but I'm not sure. Is this a trend that continues, or was it a mistake?

If you think about it how many rescues was Clark was going to pull off until people start pointing fingers? in the first season a crooked cop and a reporter were on to him. In Man Of Steel before he became Superman he used his powers in front of people when saving lives like from a oil rig explosion and Amy Adams' Lois Lane was also on to him after saving her in the Arctic, noticing a mystery savior saving people over the years what's all that about?. In a flashback in Superman & Lois young Clark wore a ski mask to stop some robbers.

Introducing the Blur storyline earlier perhaps would've given a better endgame for Lana Lang who many felt her romance was a three season love story that lasted seven season too long and more usage for Lois Lane who was like a possible new love interest where all romantic development was delayed for five seasons.

He did seem to see her as an object and unhealthily obsessed over her.

Sabrina Romanoff said when talking about the idea of you'll meet a soulmate “This expectation paves the way for significant disappointment. Instead, replace the idea of ‘finding’ your soulmate, with ‘creating’ one through years of learning about them, navigating challenges, creating a family, and loving each other through all the happy and hard times,”

Which it kind of was Clana.

To others it was the most frustrating aspect of the whole series. It was like a four and a half season rule that went on for the entire series. It didn't help that the flying was taken up by other characters like Kara Zor EL.

Could've had it been like Jessica Jones can't fly very well.

Even in the Lois & Clark pilot he had the ability to fly long before he had the suit what was wrong with that?

The writers did admit they couldn't afford to have him fly week to week or once in a while.

And it’s like okay because he’s a dude.

For Example:

Simone She hypnotised him and almost slept with him, when he clearly didn’t give consent by him own mind.

Those Vampire girls: They just jumped him and opened his shirt before he could react and started stroking him lol. If these was a group of young men towards a young woman, this scene would be very different.

Alicia Sure She was Clark’s girlfriend but she did force herself on him a lot, like when she teleported on top of him in his room, when he was sleeping and not fully dressed. And later on she gave him red kryptonite knowing fully well what it’ll do, it’s like drugging him, and tricking him into doing things without his consent or his awareness

e's people that hate Lex and Lana or both or one and then there's people that say they're both evil and Lana's treated as perfect! debatable. Or that Lex is a child-predator! After the re-watch I truly don't know. I keep side-eyeing their scenes.

What's really irritating is how some people rant on how they have always hated the "angel in distress" or "perfect princess" or "cheerleader" and these are adults (and men even) being so obsessively immature and hateful of a 14-15-16-17-18-19 yr old character. Because they follow the cheerleaders are fake stereotype or expect a petite kid to be able to fight super-powered beings. Victim shaming/ blaming is the worst IRL and in forums.

The sad thing is it's been 20 years and people still don't understand grooming, gaslighting, abuse, or manipulation. They just make excuses to blame everything on either her or him and hate one or the other. Now I know I didn't have to. But I've read so much on Lana deserved Lex to hit her or the phantom pregnancy because she didn't realize he was evil. Or she allowed Lex to manipulate her for all those years they were friends. But if someone has known you since you were 14, and is seemingly a decent person, of course you aren't going to think them capable of certain behaviors. Especially if they go out of their way to be overly affectionate or gentle with you.

I’m surprised the alien research is read as evil at all after the events of the episodes Zod and Arrival, especially. Victim shaming/ blaming is the worst IRL and in forums. No, going after someone evil doesn't make you evil if they kill innocent people. And if you think aliens are going to invade, because you saw them massacre and heard their plans to take over the world, of course you will make a threat on someone's job if they get the property destroyed. Threatening the man's job and financial stability was an empty threat, but not out of evil intention or malice.

Yet no one trashed Lionel who took pleasure in abusing his son and wife or getting away with the murder of his parents. The fact that he's taken pleasure and malice in strangling his son. Along with poisoning him to cover up a murder. Even forcing drugs into his food to get him institutionalized and brainwashed. Lionel pretends like Lex and Lillian were crazy and he had to prevent them at all costs, but originally he goaded Lex into being evil. On purpose, for pleasure. He's never told off by anyone for these things. And people like to say he was never evil and only misunderstood. Some people also victim shame Lex, saying he deserved the abuse because he's going to turn out evil anyway.

Then there's people who are Lex-apologists and blame Lionel, Clark, and specifically Lana for Lex's descent to evil. While experiences shape someone, in the end they have the decision to change. And Lex knows what he's doing is wrong, and has no intention of stopping. He begins to take pleasure in watching the experiments and torturing the subjects. He could try to change, but doesn't want to. In Freak, Lana becomes suspicious when meteor-freaks are being killed off. She knows Lex studies meteor-freaks, but doesn't think he's the one kidnapping them. Until the end of the episode, when he makes an obvious deflection and swear. Because it's become his nature to be this way.

Or that Lana was the most despicable for trying to stop Lex in season 7. He gave hcg (human chorionic hormones) which are real by the way, because she was suspicious of whether or not his projects were really to help people or had ulterior motives. His goading Lana into trusting him, and constant need to compare himself to Clark is all to distract her and bring her closer to him. She's trusted this man with personal problems and her economics since she was 14. And that's part of her character too. Even in a deleted scene from 3.16 she tells the FBI Lex isn't capable of money-laundering. It's important to remember Lex isn't the victim here. Lex who's become someone that locks people in cages to experiment, then kills them after.

These views are forceful in not trying to understand the character's situations. I know women who have been abused by a partner they thought they could trust, because they knew them for years. It leads to a mental breakdown, which is what the character is meant to be going through and what people mock. Just like I know children who are spiteful because they've been abused by their father or mother. People either change and decide to help others- (Lana's decision not to kill Lex and become a hero in 8) or stay in their depression and cannot change (Lex's decision to not change). It's not their true nature, it's a bi-product of abuse. Lex's destiny represents continuing the cycle which is why he kills his father. Compassion and context is really important when watching this show.

In I think Season 5 or 6 Clarke mentioned this when thinking about his life with Lana,

Then many episodes after Kara mentioned something like everyone Clarke knows will get old and he won’t or something.

But how/when did Clarke know this to begin wit? because he was still growing and aging at that point

(Sorry wish I wrote this when I first thought it so I could give the exact quote and season Episodes, but I kinda binged watched them late at nights lol)

I think it was using red Kryptonite at the end of season 2. He basically drugged himself to remove his inhabitations to not feel pain and guilt, hurting his loved ones and committing many crimes, getting involved with crime lords...

Personally I think it was mainly Chloe's emotions exploding, thinking it was the end of the world and the last time she would see Clark.

Whenever you see that name, you probably think some crazy person is about to start doing some crazy shipping don't you. Well, I'm tired of people seeing it that way. And yes I am Chlark fan, as every reasonable person could be.

I don't know if it's just me that doesn't immediately think of the romantic couple when seeing that name. Yeah, Clark and Chloe's romantic relationship at the end of season 1 was cute and hearth-warming to watch and I wouldn't mind it lasting longer. But I absolutely love Chloe (4th fav) and think him and Clark are much better of as BFF's.

Personally, the Clark-Lex bromance in seasons 1-4 has been one of my favorite things about Smallville. I loved seeing them as friends, but despite how heartbreaking it was I also loved the way their relationship developed to finally become what it was destined to be.

There are many people I've seen on other platforms-especially YouTube- that see Clark and Lex as a romantic couple. I think they most certainly never were and never could be. I'm not saying this because I am homophobic or something but all I saw in those two were (in the first few seasons) guys trying to become closer friends but just couldn't stop lying to each other for their respective reasons.

And since Lex is my favorite and Clark number 2, I just can't help but see this as an amazingly well done relationship.

That's why Lana did all of that volunteer work for blood drives. Or helped Adam when he pretended to be homeless. Wanted to use Lex's money for halfway houses and immigrant slavery. You know this Lana-hate which THANK GOODNESS is almost over is just out of spite.

@Super She was the show's worst character. Treated like a perfect saintly Mary Sue who could do no wrong even though she can and had done plenty of wrong. She was a hypocrite who supposedly hated being lied to and having secrets kept from her only to lie and keep secrets herself. Her entire relationship with Clark was her trying to force him to tell her about his powers then having a tantrum when he wouldn't. She got jealous when men she fancied kissed other women even if she was with other men at the time. Even when she was with Whitney she gave Clark and Chloe a jealous look when she saw them kissing. Because Lana apparently believed that men had to pine for her until she was ready for them. Characters who were complete strangers to her would call her amazing out of nowhere even though she wasn't which was just the original producers projecting their obsession with the actress and character. Her and Clark's relationship was lust not love. They only liked each other for their looks and because they wanted to have sex. Anything Lana did wrong was ignored or portrayed as right. Like kidnapping the reformed Lionel and having him held hostage by a crazy woman for forcing her to marry Lex, when she was with Lex she threatened to have the college fund of the daughter of a LuthorCorp employee cut off unless said employee gave her the box from Brainiac's ship, she pretended to set up a clinic to help Kryptonite powered people but instead just used it to spy on Lex, nearly killed Lois while trying to kill Lex. People hate Lana because she's the worst character in the show, never had a clear set in stone character, was played by an actress hired for her looks not her acting ability, in other versions of Superman Lana Lang is just Clark's high school girlfriend. Therefore Lana should have left the show for good when she went to France at the end of Season 3. Instead they kept her around until Season 8. She was one of the most evil characters in the show yet was treated as if she was pure and innocent. At least Smallville's other villains were shown to be what they were.

Only lust not love? When there were together they often go on normal dates, which they talk about of you listen to the dialogue. Apparently they always either go out to dinner, horse-riding, or dancing. They don't even sleep together for years of being friends. Anyway Clark is the major gaslighter in the show, gaslighting means making someone believe something isn't true even when they know it is. That is all Clark does to Lana and Lex throughout the first 3 seasons every-time someone threatens them about Clark. Lex tries to talk to him after being told by multiple people that Clark has a dangerous secret (like Lana) and just asks Clark outright. "Friendships built on secrets are destined to fail" and Clark says "good thing we don't have that problem". This is actually gaslighting. Making someone believe that something didn't happen, which can actually drive people out of their minds. "There's nothing more to me than what you see" to Lana who actually saw him use his powers "You'd still be the same Clark Kent." Which is what she says every-time she asks about the secret which is really in 3x02, gunpoint 3x03 after being kidnapped over the secret, and 5x10 because he suddenly stopped when they were going to sleep together. Then of course Clark blames her for moving away to college. And wait she actually think she asks about his health, because at this point she went to Lex and told him to stay away from Clark because he's "just like the rest of us". As for secrets in season 4 Lana admits everything which she had already told her current boyfriend and Lex about. She tells Clark after they become friends again. Why tell someone something if you aren't even talking to them? Then we see in 5x10 that Lana brings up aliens and tries to talk about the spaceship with Clark, before it's revealed that she accepted Lex's offer. Because Lex truly thinks aliens are going to invade and take over the world. Once Lex is revealed, you really expect her just to lie back and know that he's doing a ton of messed up stuff and not go after him? Lex is evil, but let him be? Going after an evil person doesn't make someone evil. And oh Lionel- didn't he kill his parents and a ton of innocent people over the years. Didn't he abuse his family? Who cares! But you seem to forget that Lana did save Lois' in Gone and Arrival. As for Lois, Chloe does confront her about that. But no Lana is not evil, she goes through therapy and reformation before returning because of some mental issues from being with Lex. And is your comment is less an accurate view of the show and more a rant.

@A 777 She was right to go after Lex but didn't care how many innocents she hurt to get to him. And Lionel had redeemed himself after switching bodies with Clark cured him of a liver disease that was killing him and spent the rest of his life protecting Clark until Lex killed him. As bad as Clark's lying and secret keeping was he was doing it to protect people and make it so they didn't get put in danger or killed by his life as a hero.

But she didn't plan to hurt Grant or Lois. Grant only didn't want to expose Lex because he worked for him. Anyway Lana had mental issues, she needed to work through. A fake pregnancy and finding out all of those things she defended Lex from were actually real broke her. But then and I read that blog post, she really did torture. herself because she didn't want to be that kind of person. Anyway the Black Box was supposed to protect the world from an alien invasion, until Lex wanted to start using it to make weapons. Then she disagreed, because she didn't want innocent people to die. Because she's not a Lex copy.

Oh no I'm not a Clark hater at all. But I really hated how he pretended like Lex and Lana were imagining things and all of those people that kept telling them about him were lying. I know Clark is a good guy, but that took a toll on his friendships with them. They tried to prove they would care about him no matter what he was or why all of those things were happening. If a ton of people tried to kill me, then said yow know Clark has a secret. I'd want to know. And it's not like they argued with him about it, they asked directly. Straight to the source. Far better than just ending the relationship because Clark had a secret identity. Until Lex flat out started stalking him and that whole thing in Mortal which I will not excuse.

You don't have to. Some of the things you said about Kristin and Lana in other comments read that way. And I truly think Lex and Lionel were evil because they had no reason to do those things. But Lana truly believed Lex when he said the Black Box could stop and invasion. And was mentally shook when he was revealed to be a bad guy who does all of these things she thought he wouldn't do, so she went after him. I'm just saying she's not evil or monstrous and ignoring the plot or reasons to hate Lana is unreasonable. And Isis was used to help meteor-freaks after she changed and stopped going after Lex.

Once Lex is revealed, you really expect her just to lie back and know that he's doing a ton of messed up stuff and not go after him? Lex is evil, but let him be? Going after an evil person doesn't make someone evil. And oh Lionel- didn't he kill his parents and a ton of innocent people over the years. Didn't he abuse his family? Who cares! But you seem to forget that Lana did save Lois' in Gone and Arrival. As for Lois, Chloe does confront her about that. But no Lana is not evil, she goes through therapy and reformation before returning because of some mental issues from being with Lex. And is your comment is less an accurate view of the show and more a rant.

And Lionel had redeemed himself after switching bodies with Clark cured him of a liver disease that was killing him and spent the rest of his life protecting Clark until Lex killed him. As bad as Clark's lying and secret keeping was he was doing it to protect people and make it so they didn't get put in danger or killed by his life as a hero.

But she didn't plan to hurt Grant or Lois. Grant only didn't want to expose Lex because he worked for him. Anyway Lana had mental issues, she needed to work through. A fake pregnancy and finding out all of those things she defended Lex from were actually real broke her. But then and I read that blog post, she really did torture. herself because she didn't want to be that kind of person. Anyway the Black Box was supposed to protect the world from an alien invasion, until Lex wanted to start using it to make weapons. Then she disagreed, because she didn't want innocent people to die. Because she's not a Lex copy.

Oh no I'm not a Clark hater at all. But I really hated how he pretended like Lex and Lana were imagining things and all of those people that kept telling them about him were lying. I know Clark is a good guy, but that took a toll on his friendships with them. They tried to prove they would care about him no matter what he was or why all of those things were happening. If a ton of people tried to kill me, then said yow know Clark has a secret. I'd want to know. And it's not like they argued with him about it, they asked directly. Straight to the source. Far better than just ending the relationship because Clark had a secret identity. Until Lex flat out started stalking him and that whole thing in Mortal which I will not excuse.

1. Princess of a Small Town A lot of people do not like the Mary-Sue, Princess, or Damsel in Distress Trope. But the image was created by the town as a girl they saw, a cheerleader who often did charity work, and was well-liked especially after opening the new teen-hang out in town. Although, she admits to Clark and Lex that she does not like being seen as the Cheerleader Princess in (X-Ray) (Nicodemus), but it's way people choose to see her. The character is 14-19 throughout her time on the show, and it's unfair to believe that a 100 pound teenaged girl could protect herself all of the time. Especially against much stronger males, who often have a tendency for a sexual obsession involving the character. Clark will often have to step in and save her at the end of multiple episodes in early seasons. But the kidnappings are often by people who pretend to be her friend and seem pretty harmless at the beginning. It's unfair to think that she is a willing target, or to expect her to be able to defend herself against metahumans.

2. Clex? The main reason Clark and Lex stopped being friends, or more as some fans like to imply. Although it's never shown on the show. Was not Lana. It was gradual, as since season 1 Clark began to hide his secret from his friends whenever they were approached by it and asked him. "Tempest" (Clark/Lex), "Perry" (Lex and Perry), "Commencement" (Clark and Lex). This also included his relationship with Lana. Who he thought would reject him, due to her fear of superhumans. Who throughout the show, especially in early seasons, are depicted as evil. Clark and Lex stop being friends after Lex sends criminal superhumans to attack his family and friends in the episode Mortal to see if Clark has powers. At the end of the episode they fight, and their friendship ends. Later, Lex uses his new relationship with Lana to hurt Clark, constantly mentioning a wedding or just alluding to Lana in general. Eventually Clark accepts the relationship, but still believes that Lex is bad for her. "Crimson" (Clark and Lex).

3. Clana 1st Relationship: The secret. Clark and Lana actually break up in season 3 and 5 over the secret, but both characters are heart-broken. And the breakups are led by Clark. In season 3, he says he doesn't want her to be disgusted in the "real him", she saw on red-kryptonite a couple of times before. This is a deflection of Clark's insecurities onto her. She actually doesn't know what he means by this, or the alien heritage and a common line in their relationship is as follows "You'd still be the same Clark Kent". In an episode in season 3 called Extinction, Van, a military kid tries to kill off meteor-freaks. He indirectly saves Lana. He thinks that Clark is a meteor-freak, and tells Lana he tried to kill him. This belief stays with her for years. Especially after Van implies that Clark has immunity to weapons, but a weakness in kryptonite.

2nd (Actual) Relationship: Clark and Lana begin a relationship in Season 5, and he promises things will be different between them. The premier episode involves an alien invasion, which Lana witnesses. Clark manages to defeat the aliens, but loses his powers for a few episodes. They are able to start a happy, even physical relationship. But run into problems when he receives his powers back, and starts to pull away. He says they havn't been sleeping together because she has been too busy with school and studying. This is another deflection of Clark's insecurities, because she is studying Astronomy. Making her feel guilty for that to take attention away from the subject. Just like taking away attention from the fact that he acts like a different person sometimes and ran away all summer. Eventually they reach an understanding, and agree to slow down the relationship. But her growing interests in aliens and a possible invasion get in-between their relationship. Clark is worried, when Lana realizes that aliens could've been living on earth since they were kids, and says the topic should not be dwelled on. "Fanatic" (Clark/Lana) "Hypnotic"(Clark and Lana at the talon) "Fanatic" (Clark/Lana ending)

4. Lexana Lex and Lana begin a relationship which takes place in seasons 5 and 6. They were friends before for years. Despite being on supposed opposite sides they often share the same view points of meteor freaks and aliens being dangerous. Understandable, because most of the antagonists are such on the show. Being worried on a coming invasion they want to study the technology first without destroying it to protect earth from being taken over. She threatens to fire Dr. Groll. Lex set the whole thing up, they're happy. However, their relationship runs into problems when they realize that problems should be handled different ways. In Fallout, a scientist that works for Lex, believes that with the technology Lex could do something dangerous. Dr. Groll warns that the device could be extremely destructive and to keep it away from the Luthors. They almost break up at the end of the episode, with Lex believing the device would have been in the face of an invasion. And her disagreeing. He proposes however, when Lana discovers she is pregnant. She agrees to marry him and raise the baby. But suspicions of Lex's actions and run ins with Clark lead to problems in their engagement. The episode of choice this time is Crimson again! Yay! In short, a red-kryptonite no-inhibitions Clark kidnaps Lana, says he still loves her, proposes, and then tries to kill Lex. It was very umm.. Dramatic. Anyway at the end of the episode Lex implies he would've shot Clark if he got the chance, and that he wouldn't know what he would be capable of if she left him. It's foreshadowed that the pregnancy isn't normal at the end of this episode. Freak. Yay! A buddy from high-school, named Daniel Kim, reveals that he can move things with his mind. He's killed later this episode, after being kidnapped and experimented on at Luthorcorp. Chloe has also been kidnapped, but survives. Lex swears up and down on their kid that he had nothing to do with it. They later get divorced when it's revealed that their doctor was paid off to tell Lana she was pregnant and killed by Lex. But some fans defend Lex saying he really loves her. That disturbed me the most, his actions are not reasonable by "love".

The next season she tries to get revenge. It's however understandable, because Lex did do these things. Although this corresponds with his redemption arc, making it easy to dislike Lana here. Eventually their relationship and contact with each-other ends all together. And Lana breaks up with Clark at the end of the season to find herself and try to become a better person.

In her shoes, there's a lot of tragedy. At first the character responds by bouncing back easily at the young ages of 14 and 15. But at 16-19 she seems to be a bit more into retribution. Trauma can really change a person, but it's important to realize how these things built up over the years to change a person. Thanks for reading!
